Apparently a fan is a novelty to this CN crew as this route doesn't pass through many towns. Usually only ELS Train tuber501 catches this train. Today the tankers are a novelty and the only other excitement was the Gathering of the gondolas. They pretty much have their normal consist of roofing granule covered hoppers. Several chemical tankers and today even a car of feed or grain. Once Upon a Time a hot piece of track in Yooper Land on the DSS&A. That turned out to be a really nice picture of the brakeman as it stopped right in line with your and the wood cars and piles of logs stood out. At the end you happened to pick up his comment to customer service in Stevens Point advising them of when the tank cars were spotted on The Interchange track
I enjoyed watching this video of the Canadian National Local switching the LPG tank cars at Pembine, Wisconsin, Jason! This is the first time that I have seen a train crew member recording a railfan as the railfan was recording the train passing. (Posted on 7 January 2025 at 0951 CST.)
I was hoping CN would reserect the line West to Rhinelander. It seems like forever since the line has been mothballed to Bradley and even further West to Ladysmith....but I guess the traffic just isn't there.
Not necessarily. It depends on the person. I work for CN and I love railfans (mostly because I'm one, too). I do my best to educate my co-workers on railfans so they don't have any problems with them. However, in this day and age, we have to be vigilant at all times and watch out for troublemakers.
5452 was I believe least to the BN/BNSF by GMTX Leasing along with many other SD 60s for many years then purchased by CN. When on the BNSF these would have been painted in blue and white
WISCONSIN CENTRAL Cars - covered hoppers -(fallen flag !!) inside the consist !! There is no walking stick, it´s a tool to operate the hand brakes and to control the brakes !
Two more items.........ive seen the 5452 in both nancy hauns and reds iowa train videos, so it gets around. And...... did you see how that brake tool is used? Theres no ice to deal with, and he shoulda been on the platform.
Apparently the crew likes violating the FRA rules about electronic devices while in the operating compartment of a locomotive or working with a moving train from the ground
It was his tablet. We are all givin one when we hire on now. He most likely was just being a prick and was mocking you. -cn employee. The tablet is a cellphone with all the standard features removed.
There is a joint track plan between the two Roads that specifies exactly where ownership/responsibility ends. It may even be marked at the location with a sign or marker on the ground.
It is not a violation of FRA rules for train crews to take videos/pictures from the cab. However, in order to do that, the crew has to do that as official business.
There's new Michigan Governor Executive Orders granting permissions to rail companies for tracking anyone filming and video taping railroads. A.I. will be able to track all video taping through the cell phone.
Yes, dating back to the electronic device rules in 2009 all private owned devices must be turned off and stored away, company provided devices can only be used when the train is stopped and all crew members are aware one of them is on the phone except emergencies.
Maybe he is a spy and will report your sighting to CP rail. Weird, bearded man along rails! Maybe they think you are responsible for the incredibly bad rail on ELS!
I *GUARANTEE* you he wasn't recording you on a whim or to be friendly. CN are notorious for being a--holes when it comes to railfans or anyone even remotely near the tracks. Chances are your face in now on some watchlist somewhere as a possible threat.
Seriously, you think Jason that the crazy world we live in today, he took that pic/video to report to CN, i don’t know what is in those 11 cars (fuel etc etc) but if something happen, your filming there actions could point finger at you if anything happen(s) as a threat 🤷♂️🤷♂️ or maybe, he was being sarcastic, i’m over thinking 🤔. LOL.
Saw a CN rulebook when the CN operated the line north out of Sault Ste. Marie to Hearst, Ontario. For trains headed to Canadian destinations, 95% of brakes had to work during the pre-departure test. If the train were headed to the U.S., 100% of the brakes had to work.
I've wondered if all those conductors know who you are...and why you follow them continually to different railroad crossings over distances? If they don't, they could see you as a stalker for some negative reason. He's collecting evidence....just in case. I am assuming most of those people know you and what and why you are doing it. If I was doing these videos I would make sure I made connections with those people as much as possible.
Conductor figured he got a legend on video! Probably watches your videos! Your like the burt Reynolds of the railfan world....some call you the bandit!
I love these train videos as much as anyone BUT let’s face it, we live in a world where terrorism is getting more common. Also, I’m pretty sure the vast majority of the general population do not share nor understand the facination that some people have observing trains. If I were the engineer and observed an individual continually videoing my train at numerous places along my route, I would be VERY concerned and would consider myself negligent by not documenting & reporting it.
i was a switchman for the CNW/UP... if i saw a guy filming me, the absolute LAST thing on my mind was terrorism if i saw someone recording me, first thing i'm thinking is slimy trainmaster or skunky traveling engr... or BOTH... and they do do that... they sneak around and hide in the bushes/weeds and spy on the crews hoping to catch them violating a rule... they also use DRONES to spy as well... nothing but company creeps
See if you video tape them with out consent that's a violation of there rights. So I was tolled when I was video tapping a trin in prince gorge BC the train man said you video tape all the trains your heart desires but no railroad employees. Got it o.k that's fine I just want to catch the train eny when. Have a nice day. We all got it right right o.k lol
@Joe-d7m6k my younger son-in-law is a CN crewmember, i could get his opinion on that. But.......i have pictures he took when his train was snowbound around a year ago, but theyre on the the house phone, imagine that 🤔❓
That was quite the stare down when he set that first hand break😮
Cn horn is so awesome sounding.
Hello, very nice video. Greetings from the Netherlands.😊
Great filming of the switching action. Both you and Jaw Tooth do a great job.
I think Jaw Tooth is great. I guess we are both good at what we do.

Thanks! That's exactly what happened.
Nice to see that CN train pass through the conductor getting your picture that's something you don't expect see every day
Great catch Jason. You’re a star!!
Hes turning the tables!1!1!1!

Another great looking video. Crisp images. Steady shots. Very nice.
Jason I hope he got your best side
Good morning I enjoy that video👍👍
You’re FAMOUS now!!
Whole thing looks like a pandoras box that I would have just edited out and left off the internet.
Great video Jason !!
We picked up 80 mty rotary Gon's one day and did air brake test making sure all the Pistons came out.
In Florida propane is good a business. Many, many applications here.
Awesome video
I Agree completely Jason.
I was hoping CN would reserect the line West to Rhinelander. It seems like forever since the line has been mothballed to Bradley and even further West to Ladysmith....but I guess the traffic just isn't there.
Seems to me that CN is a very unfriendly company. I worked for CSX in Mass and we had no issues with people watching, videoing or taking pictures
Not necessarily. It depends on the person. I work for CN and I love railfans (mostly because I'm one, too). I do my best to educate my co-workers on railfans so they don't have any problems with them. However, in this day and age, we have to be vigilant at all times and watch out for troublemakers.

Conductor probably won $5 -- he bet somebody at the office he could snag a pic of you!
The hockey stick he uses to put the handbrake on in interesting.
keep the clips coming
WISCONSIN CENTRAL Cars - covered hoppers -(fallen flag !!) inside the consist !! There is no walking stick, it´s a tool to operate the hand brakes and to control the brakes !
He looked to me like he was talking with the phone on speaker
good train video
It's the reality that we live in today , everybody is watching everybody , I know it's crazy !
Cn railroad train great job

Probably thought it was sasquatch 😂
Think you will get a Golden Globe Jason? Lol
Apparently the crew likes violating the FRA rules about electronic devices while in the operating compartment of a locomotive or working with a moving train from the ground
I think it’s how they keep in contact with the dispatch center
It was his tablet. We are all givin one when we hire on now. He most likely was just being a prick and was mocking you. -cn employee.
The tablet is a cellphone with all the standard features removed.
Agreed
That was a first! I have never seen a CN Crew take my photo! Normally, I get a wave!
Nothing came by here this morning, but I know 503 dropped their entire train on the siding in Pembine. Weird morning!
@ Huh! That’s weird
@@jasonasselin I don’t see any engines in Pembine when I pass through 5 minutes ago
@@ELSTrainTuber501 I wonder where that northbound train went?
@@jasonasselin Honestly, No clue
He probably watches your channel Jason. I mean, you are kinda famous.
Or notorious among railroad train crews!!!!!
If the switch between CN and ELS track needs repair, which RR is responsible?
There is a joint track plan between the two Roads that specifies exactly where ownership/responsibility ends. It may even be marked at the location with a sign or marker on the ground.
@@BudmanPackfan Very interesting -- makes sense -- thanks for the info!
Where does the CN line meet up with the LP line? the one in Iron Mountain is exempt.
Headed back to Kremlin with covered hoppers for roofing granule loading
It is not a violation of FRA rules for train crews to take videos/pictures from the cab. However, in order to do that, the crew has to do that as official business.
It’s a possibility that he may have gotten evidence to report you cause some crews do that
Just getting the glares hey....
They are quite paranoid of railfans. No idea why.
Hello how are you doing tonight good evening
Trainspotterspotting
Be sure you smile!
Where's the snow? I mean shit it's January....
I'm in Canada by Toronto and it's barely snowed this year...no complaints there..😂
There's new Michigan Governor Executive Orders granting permissions to rail companies for tracking anyone filming and video taping railroads. A.I. will be able to track all video taping through the cell phone.
This was Wisconsin.
A question not really related to the video but how bad are the mosquitos in the summer time there?
The mosquito is the Upper Peninsula's state bird. 😑
@erie910 so less heat but lots of 🦟?
I've heard them referred to as "Michigan's air force", lol.
Isn’t against the FRA’s rules to have their phones out while in the cab?
Only if the phone police find out. Could have been just a camera.
Yes, dating back to the electronic device rules in 2009 all private owned devices must be turned off and stored away, company provided devices can only be used when the train is stopped and all crew members are aware one of them is on the phone except emergencies.
Yes "But" not if he is required to send info in with his camera of suspicious looking Cahraracters
"They'll never know" he said.
Maybe he is a spy and will report your sighting to CP rail. Weird, bearded man along rails! Maybe they think you are responsible for the incredibly bad rail on ELS!
Oh no! Report me to the CP? LMFAO..

You say that but you've never seen the videos from further up north where railfans trespass for video and nothing happens.
Are the crew Canadian or do they switch if and when they go over the border?
Having lived in that area, I can say that these CN trains in that area never cross the border. CN has huge holdings and operations in the US
Not Canadian crews by any stretch of the imagination. Escanaba based crew.
Canadian and American crews can bring a train over the border, but then hand them over to their counterparts.

if you video tape them with out consent that's a violation of there rights
Wrong. In the US, the SCOTUS ruled if it is visible from a public thoroughfare, it's legal to record.
No it is not. Public behavior in public areas have no exclusive right to privacy.
Their
No expectations of privacy in a public place that's the law plus at this point they know who Jason is
