  • An interesting Monday morning for the Escanaba & Lake Superior Railroad when a detector Alter Metal installed began beeping when the train passed between them.. ELS 503 came back north without ELS 1221 with pulpwood and cars for Alter where I found them.

As I stated in a previous video that is a bicron stand , the post hold panels which scans the cars for radiation, there is a speed limit when the cars pass thru. There for when it's to fast the alarm will sound or the scrap is hot! Most mills require the shippers to have them!!!

Alter metals in Rockford IL has radiation detectors on their scales and on their rail line. I haul for a rolloff company more than once when hauling a dumpster out of there electrical insulators for high-voltage powerlines have tripped the sensors and they have to go through the dumpster to find the source to verify it is not dangerous. Also, if you drive through them too fast that will set off a warning. I’m guessing they were pulling the cars too fast.

502 may be in for its routine inspection that all locomotives are required to have. If it's sitting in Oconto Falls, it probably would have been spotted by one of the ELS fans by now.

I mean I don't agree with railways running longer trains with less crews but after I took my buyout from CN all the mainline from Chicago to Nashville was good for 70 mph freight....we have the best railways for tonnage but they are starting to over do it....only Australia and Brasil have us beat on tonnage and that's because Australia is the lack of highways, Brasil because no maintenance on the roads since 1964....shortlines like pioneer took something that was nothing and revamped all their lines....the guy that runs this company takes his profit to buy historical locomotives and passenger cars.
