Great job man. I'm only disagree with the touch display comment. Touch display on a laptop is tiresome. And why when the track pad of Apple mac are so good. I understand why they have touchscreen on windows, because their track pads are up to parts. But why in Macbooks
Touch on a laptop is amazing, i have a Asus transformer and the track pad is just as good as on my macbook Air, but i find touch practical, and once you go touch you cant go back
yeah the screen gets a little more dirty, but i switch between touch and track pad depending on what im doin. browsing the web touch works really well, writing a word document a trackpad is best
You are wrong, the 2015 13-inch Pro with Retina is fully capable of driving up to two 4K monitors at full 60Hz over Thunderbolt/Mini-DisplayPort. It’s listed on Apple’s support page.
I really liked the fact that when reviewing the macbook pro you were objective and not subjective. That really made the review count! Thanks for the information you shared with us.
For the clicking and dragging what you can do instead is set it so that you double tap on something, but on the second tap if you hold it, it'll grab the subject so that you can drag it around. Same goes for highlighting text. This is basically the standard on most windows-based trackpads
Touchscreens on laptops are stupid. It just covers up the whole screen with ugly oily fingerprints for no good reason. Plus, Mac OS is not designed to be used with a touch screen. You have a lovely trackpad and keyboard for a reason.
Es Jonne Yes I have. I use an Hp with a touchscreen and I've never felt the need to touch the screen. I especially hate fingerprints. Windows 10 makes touchscreens even less relevant
+Paul Hojda Exactly. Apples always been about ease of use and what feels most natural. It's the whole reason the iPhone started with a 3.5 inch screen cause you can easily reach every portion of the device without adjusting it's position or your grip. It's something I actually miss sometimes about my 4S. But anyway yeah, touch PCs are a bit pointless, I'd much rather use a tablet for portable touch based browsing cause it's made to do that. detachable and convertible PCs are neat but not too practical or useful.
I just bought one, to replace my 2012 Pro that just recently broke. Anyways, I'm very happy with my new purchase. The speakers are way better (louder and improved quality), the battery life is noticeably better, the weight savings are nice especially since i never used the optical drive, and the screen is a lot brighter and better looking.
This is the best early 2015 macbook pro retina review I've watched so far. So detailed and informative! I'm a junior high school student, I'll be using my macbook for taking notes, doing homework, and browsing the internet. I'll also be doing some heavy video editing using final cut pro for my IB film class and my vlogs. After watching this I decided to step up a notch from my old windows based laptop to the new macbook! I upgraded the base configuration to 218gb flash storage, 16gb ram, and 3.1 GHz. Thank you for the great video!
loving this crispy video on my macbook pro 2015. BTW its extremely light i don't notice it. I feel like it is the same weight as the macbook air. (have used both)
MW Technology Does the new MacBook Retina Pro 13 have the screen coating problem like the older generation ones? Thank-you for your attention in advance.
I love your review! But I don't know what storage should I buy, I'm a university student who works with docs and web browsing and maybe a bit. Of video editing. The 128gb is enough for me?, as I am a student I want to save some money...
From my understanding Apple's specs Say a 4k display at 60 hertz can be used with thunderbolt on late 2013 macbook pro and newer. I have a late 2013 13" macbook pro with 256 GB SSD 8 GB ram, it's been a solid machine, still is. I think i would get frustrated with the new trackpad personally. I'm ok with the trackpad in my current MBP, but at home i use it as a desktop since i prefer a full sized keyboard a larger display and a mouse when working. Then I have the portability when I need it. I appreciate your presentation in this video, very good info and well said with the points being made.
I am about to change from the surface pro 2017 to the macbook pro 2015 low-end model, how recommended is this. I'm looking for a better development environment than windows 10.
i just bought this a few hours ago. I love how the keyboard keys are. They feel great. Trackpad works well but i use a wireless mouse so.....lol mostly bought it for the retina display. :)
Hey I welling to purchase a Macbook pro 13 2015 edition. I'm currently a windows user and I have never me a Mac OS user but I have no problem switching to Mac OS but because it can be easier to solve problems on Windows so welling to add the Parallels for the Mac. So I want to know that it will make the Mac slow or laggy or create problems for the Mac. My Usage: 1 - Watching and downloading movies & serials 2 - Listening and downloading music 3 - Editing photos 4 - Web Browsing 5 - Microsoft Office So based on these usage it will make the Mac slow or laggy or cause any other problems, it will run smoothly fast ? Thanks in advance
It's easy to replace the SSD of this Macbook Pro. You need to take off the bottom case, unplug the battery connector from the motherboard and to replace the SSD. It takes about 5 minutes of work.
I read that the thunderbolt display port puts out 4k at 60hz. Do you think 128 gig ssd will be enough? I have all my music on spotify and do you reommend getting a mouse? because of force touch.
The base model runs significantly quieter when running intensive apps compared to the highest end model. Both still pretty quiet, but it's something to keep in mind. :)
Force touch seems exciting ! a worthy upgrade to a already best in class trackpad, Apple trackpads FTW , still love using my 2010 macbook air cause of the awesome trackpad, on the occasion I sue it, more of a desktop kinda guy though.
i wanna go to college/university this year.. which macbook should i buy :/ ?i'm doing some basic stuff.. a little browsing .. iwork thats it.. and i currently have a retina 15 from 2012 so i love retina..
I want to make the switch from windows to OX [Macbook Pro]. I usually use my laptop for student work, general use, multimedia work and video editing. Is the 2015 Pro worth it?
Just one question. I want to buy this macbook next week. I will use it for Word, Powerpoint, Excel, browsing, watching youtube and once a year video editing (No photoshop, gaming). Is 8GB RAM enough then or do I need to get 16GB of RAM?
Excellent review (as usual), I have 2011 MBP and 2012 iMac and iPad 3 ===> I'll be selling all of them and go back to PC!. Macintosh is wonderful but as soon as your requirement exceed the upscaled consumption, unfortunately they don't hold up (even if they were specced up),guess I have to build my own rig!
the 2015 macbook pro is nice but im just going to wait for late 2015 or 2016 apple is moving towards 5k and rumor has it there getting rid of retina because its power hungry and the iphone 7 will have amoled 2016 is going to be a big year of apple
can somebody tell me if its worth getting the new one? Here in the Netherlands its 400 euro's more than the old one.. so is it worth the 400 extra euro's?
Actually I bought it,final cut work just fine, but premiere pro have some difficulties, rendering is slow and I have drop frames here and there.About gaming I am not sure all of this games a compatible whit Mac OS
only thing I'm waiting is for a discrete GPU and a quad-core CPU on the 13" but it seems impossible because it's Apple, but hopefully next year they change their mind
I mean I hope there would be an option for it. of course it will be overkill and i'm sure it'll be priced the same as the entry 15" but the portability of the 13" especially for heavy work load on the go would be just amazing
Crcl I'm afraid you'll never get a heavy work duty 13" machine. That's just not how apple does their stuff. They want you to get the 15" as a desktop replacement.
+blue4zero Obviously you know him so well that you know in depth what he uses his laptop for, and you definitely know that for him, a quad-core, discrete GPU 13" laptop is just too much.
Does anyone know if a MacBook Pro 13" with 128GB of Flash Storage, 2.7GHz, and 16GB of RAM will be enough to run Microsoft Office 2016, non hardcore gaming, daily web browsing, and video playback?
Really good review. Very informative. I will be taking the HDMI output info I got from the website with me so that I can decide on the best display to get. ***Open to suggestions from anyone who is happy with their external display. ***
i dont want a laptop with a touchscreen, that's what ipad is for. i own this laptop, and its just perfect, the only thing that bothers me is the storage, 128 gig is not enough, and the higher storage models are damn too expensive. and i havnt even accidentally forced clicked once, literally not even once! overall, this is a really good laptop.
It can yes. But it also depends on what your doing. If your doing a lot of video editing and other such things than yes it will fill up very quickly. Now if your doing what I am and just using it for school then it doesn't fill up that fast. Since it's not upgrade able I would go ahead and get at least the 256 GB version. I take online classes for college and my MacBook is my main computer I use it for music typing papers and doing email and design in Auto cad I have the 512 GB version and I love it it's very fast!!!! Also if you can get an external hard rive to go with it it helps keep the storage space free on your MacBook.
No only safari, they do this because they do not know what other industries want if they choose to have force click. This will most likely change and Apple will most likely partner with Google and industries like that to set up force click.
***** at least laptops for professionals can be upgraded because the industry knows how important it is to be able to customize machines. this once again proves that Apple products are a complete joke (especially looking at the mac/macbook"Pro"). but even low-end machines like my Mum's Satellite can be upgraded easily
***** GPU is usually soldered on the board, CPU could be upgraded but is bound to a chipset. Only thing you could upgrade in a laptop's lifetime is the hdd and ram. That doesn't really count as an upgrade. Any professional will grab a machine tailored to his needs if it has to be a laptop. Macbooks are mostly for artists. Otherwise they are very average machines but with a descent battery life for light use, e.g. FB and Photoshop or text editing.
I've been considering 1) the new MacBook 12-inch, 2) this MacBook Pro 13-inch, and 3) the MacBook Air 11-inch. Portability is a high priority; I will be traveling this this computer and need it for writing, editing, photoediting and general use. Each of these three has pluses and minuses. The MacBook is light and has a beautiful screen, but is underpowered and not flexible with only one port. The MacBook Pro is powerful, has a beautiful screen and plenty of ports, but is 1.5 pounds heavier. Portability suffers. The MacBook Air 11 is light and moderately powered, has ports, but the screen is not at all good. The resolution is low and the viewing angles are especially poor. I am tossing out the Air and will consider MacBook versus MacBook Pro. The price is the same, the screens are similar. One is more portable; one is more powerful and more convenient.
Sheelo A. this is clearly wrong, there has never been the intend or claim for high resolutions. on the Apple web site itself, they state that they want to achieve high pixel density
Who wants a touch screen on a notebook? Not me! iPad pro looks promising though but if you're talking about a notebook I really don't want touch screen. That's just me.
Two years from now and this overpriced poorly spec laptop will become obsolete. Im very disappointed that 13" has still no discrete graphic, only 8GB of RAM and dual core chip (it's so 2008). Dell XPS are far more superior in terms of hardware (not necessarily OS).
Great job man. I'm only disagree with the touch display comment. Touch display on a laptop is tiresome. And why when the track pad of Apple mac are so good. I understand why they have touchscreen on windows, because their track pads are up to parts. But why in Macbooks
Touch on a laptop is amazing, i have a Asus transformer and the track pad is just as good as on my macbook Air, but i find touch practical, and once you go touch you cant go back
ok thank 4 your feed back. I bet you have to wipe your screen a lot haha. Do you get hands tiredness? and do you just use it (touch) only to scroll?
yeah the screen gets a little more dirty, but i switch between touch and track pad depending on what im doin. browsing the web touch works really well, writing a word document a trackpad is best
FVeim i think the answer should be it depends. Touch only makes sense when the os takes advantage of it.
Chia Hau Lim good point

Use Three fingers for click and drag and text selecting! After a day or two of getting used to, I think the force touch trackpad is pretty sweet.

Great video bro. I'm thinking of getting a macbook pro, but debating on whether to wait for next year model. any recommendation?
I want Retina but 128 GB is a no go. I wanna buy refurbished July 2014 so I can get 256 GB is that a good idea if I go through Apple website?
Touchscreens on laptops are stupid. It just covers up the whole screen with ugly oily fingerprints for no good reason. Plus, Mac OS is not designed to be used with a touch screen. You have a lovely trackpad and keyboard for a reason.

I sure hope so!
Yea pro is better
yeah, i'm actually using this laptop right now for my photo and video editing, and it's quite smooth
Why doesn't anyone use the three finger drag on OSX? It's so handy. I never lick and drag when I move things in finder or move windowed apps.
Licking and dragging isn't really what you want to do anyway 😉
thavolk84 Haha what a typo! :D
But I get you: I love the three-finger drag. It is super smooth and handy.
I use it
What about 4K Editing on a 4k display @ 60 Hz? Great review!

You can change your SSD storage.

i like how all the webpages in the video have to do with dualbooting windows
Have you ever done a survey on staingate inMacbook Pro Retina? Is this issue solved in the new Macbook 2015 or not?
when does apple release/refresh the new macbook pro models?
Would you guys recommend the Alienware 13 against this one? Thanks.
I really want a MacBook Pro 2015 and it seems like a really cool investment. If I could I would definitely get this laptop.
Apple needs to make an all black and all white macbook pro. And of course gold. It adds more elegance.
Bryan P it’s currently used
I want to make the switch from windows to OX [Macbook Pro]. I usually use my laptop for student work, general use, multimedia work and video editing. Is the 2015 Pro worth it?

no
+Kaisackl this computer is literally made for that usage what the hell are you talking about?
I know its a silly question, but will you be able to run sims 3 and its expansions?
+Ruthie Jones Yes, sims 3, sims 2 and the new sims 4 all run on Mac
Would this laptop be able to run a couple vm's well with the base model?
Here is a tip. Move your hands more during your videos.
Just one question. I want to buy this macbook next week. I will use it for Word, Powerpoint, Excel, browsing, watching youtube and once a year video editing (No photoshop, gaming). Is 8GB RAM enough then or do I need to get 16GB of RAM?
Are you stupid?
For that use you can just buy a 300$ windows laptop.
Unless you are going to start using it for more than once a year video editing get a windows computer. It would be a lot cheaper.
I'm planning on buying this. Is it worth it? I'm a student who does a lot pf paperwork and productivity shits.
+Gsbajaka Gais I'm wanting to buy it too but the new model comes out in June so i'm going to wait!
+Ben Harrison sameeee
It's not that hard to replace the SSD, it's quite easy actually. 10 screws on the bottom of the laptop. 1 screw which holds the flash storage in space
Excellent review (as usual), I have 2011 MBP and 2012 iMac and iPad 3 ===> I'll be selling all of them and go back to PC!. what about video editing on adobe products
you can game at 1080p pretty well on this. nobody needs 60 fps and any console gamer would be satisfied by playing on the macbook.
Is this good for Autocad 2014?
which computer do you name at 5:03, after dell xps?
thanks
Chromebook pixel
Is the storage expandable?
can somebody tell me if its worth getting the new one? Here in the Netherlands its 400 euro's more than the old one.. so is it worth the 400 extra euro's?
400 MORE EUROS? HAHAHA, NO. Just get the old version.....
okay thank you :)
Is it good for video editing

Does anyone know if a MacBook Pro 13" with 128GB of Flash Storage, 2.7GHz, and 16GB of RAM will be enough to run Microsoft Office 2016, non hardcore gaming, daily web browsing, and video playback?
+KarateFreak Yeah it will run that easily but you'll need some external storage for your files since only about 100GB of SSD space will be available.
Yes but i suggest an external hard drive. You can get a 1tb seagate from best buy for about $60

128
512 for school files and personal use.

It includes garage band right?
Yep. If it didn't for some reason, you could easily download it from the Mac App store.
Can I install windows 7 on this thing

Depends on what you will be doing. If you don't mind external drives, then it is totally fine.
I already bought it plus with an external hard drive. anyway, thanks for your reply Logan Webb :>
No prob! Hope you've enjoyed it!
Logan Webb Yeah. Although its not as powerful as I expected but at least its reliable. :)

Can someone tell me what's Retina?
a marketing term of Apple based on the light-sensitive layer at the back of the (human) eye.
Thanks!

your are welcome! here is some good read about it in case you have further interest: www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/500012/retina
The term retina is used by Apple is basically a screen with a resolution so high that you can't see the individual pixels.

i didn't agree with you i am 72yrs old and not all that tech savvy and added a 480gb ssd in about 20 min and it was very easy.
Macbook pro 13 2015 $1100 USD
Dell XPS 13 $1500USD
Google Chromebook Pixel 2 $1700
Macbook pro is a no brainer for people on a budget.
Aditya Udayana I got mine for $800 online on Black Friday.

Touchscreen is the most useless thing ever. It's surtenly not the thing that is missing here

Two years from now and this overpriced poorly spec laptop will become obsolete. Im very disappointed that 13" has still no discrete graphic, only 8GB of RAM and dual core chip (it's so 2008). Dell XPS are far more superior in terms of hardware (not necessarily OS).
Fuck off.
Question.
I plan on getting the 15 inch mid 2014 model.
If i wanted to upgrade it to a SSD would i able to?
