Chrome OS, for many users, is a completely new computing experience. Along with a new paradigm of computing, cloud-first thinking, and a different user interface than what most people are used to, Chrome OS brings a rather novel concept of simple, approachable access to multiple development and testing channels for those of us who are a bit more curious than others about upcoming features still in development.
Those channels are the Beta Channel and Developer Channel and though putting your device into a potentially unstable version of its core software sounds a tad scary, you can rest assured that it really isn’t. In fact, because of the way Chrome OS is built from the ground up, moving between these channels is not only simple: it is completely harmless.

My Acer cp5 471 core i3 still has no Linux even on beta:(. It is way more powerful than most new releases but why still no Linux app running support?
If I move back to stable will it wipe only the local on my Chromebook or will it wipe my Google phone to
i have a laptop i use everyday , would you recommend the dev channel?
i have a samsung 3 chromebook what is linux (Beta)
my Chromebook's update cycle will end this June. If I switch to beta then, will i still get updates and new features on ChromeOS?
when on beta do the updates stop by 2025 or on beta it will over pass that date of updates available ?
Can u do a video about best chromebooks with s-pen? I need a good chromebook so i can draw good on it.
I'm not a daring person so I am staying where I'm at until I either see you folks playing with something I'm sure I will use. My "backup" Chromebook is buggy now so I'm waiting and watching the reviews on newer models released recently. Then I'm hoping for an excellent deal at Thanksgiving on an "older" 2019 HP x360. I am still coveting the Pixelbook, but I'm not planning to buy a two year old device! If you would take another look at the Slate to see if they got the bugs out of it, I could be persuaded to buy it, with stylus and without keyboard. I'm hoping for one of the last detachable tablets though. Since you made the announcement that Google was going to be giving up on tablets, I am now more determined than ever to get one of the last of the Mohicans, since I really prefer the tablet for my use.
Thanks for this information. I watched this video because i want to know how hard it is to go back to stable, so i got my answer.
I have a Acer Chromebook 14 and I don't know why i don't get the update on Version 80, I am still on 79. So i thought yesterday to switch to Beta to see version 80. The problem is that this is my only workplace and i am nomad, so i was not sure if i mess more up then i do good. Thank you for teaching me something again!
The change channel button isn't a button so I'm trying to figure it out
HELP!!!! I think I tried out a new tab feature in Chrome they're trying out, and then I tried to turn it off and go back to normal. now my chrome isn't working and I can search for things in chrome and it goes to sites, but I can't get into any chrome settings or history or anything. I've already tried uninstalling and reinstall. can you please help? thank you!!
i have a HP Chromebook 14-q010dx,OOOOOLD. its in dev mode, beta channel, and am trying like hell 2 make it compatible with Linux. any help/suggestions would b appreciated. its not a primary device 4 me so i won't buy new unless i'm positive there's no way 2 jack/hack this pos and make it compatible.
Is the whole system has to be beta or Dev or you can add a user and then try it out?
The whole system becomes beta, not just per user.
Thanks for the heads up. Putting my Pixelbook into 77 Stable now. Had my C302 in Beta for the last 2 years though; great way to poke around with the future features.
question. If you change the channel, does it delete the account?
@@vi_isc00l19 no its not like devving the actual chromebook but its putting the browser into dev mode
I've been riding Beta for 4 years. I've had no problems. I encourage everyone to try Beta as your daily driver, too.
The only time I tell people not to use Chrome/Chromium betas are on Windows 10, as something always screws up when there is another Windows update, but on Chrome OS, Chromium OS via Neverware Cloud Ready, Android, and Manjaro Linux I've not had many issues to speak of running beta, now Dev. is another story lol!
beta is lag
Blossom Gardens update your device
@@CommodoreFan64 One question that I have been asking everyone and can’t get an answer to… If I have a chrome book that will be running out of automatic updates in three months… Can I continue to be on the beta channel? Or should I move to Dev channel? Or maybe not at all… Please help I’m trying to find the answer but can’t anywhere.
@@mastEren11 If your device is at end of life, then it won't matter what channel you are on, you won't get updates period. You will need to look up how to install Linux on your machine if you want to keep using it is simple as.
Great video, thanks for explaining! 👍👍👍 Waiting for my Chromebook.
I didn't know about Canary channel before I watched this video. Now, I'm tempted.
Stable, testing and unstable like with Debian. Looks like a lot of fun without any problems if you backup your personal data on your google drive. Nice tip as usual :)
can the dev channel destroy my chromebook or effect any of my apps? I dont wanna go into dev mode if it will destroy my apps cause i cant go back without wiping my data
chromebooks are hard to screw up but your apps might be a bit iffy. Dev channel is for devs who want the closest to bleeding edge without using the canary channel
I'v only ever been on beta waiting for the Android update.
It dose not let me change my channel plz help me
Just migrated to Beta. Just for the fun of it. Not regretting it one bit.
I've never actually had an issue in Beta that's been bad enough to make me want to move back down. More often than not if something's gone fishy, it's due to being too cavalier with the flags.
Great video, what you think about the " new" Pixelbook.
If it's not your main system, and you want to see what's coming then sure try Dev., but if you are using it as a daily driver, Beta is fine.
my chromebook touchscreen stopped working ...how to fix...and i want to play pubg mobile.which channel is best for me.
Using beta channel. So far it is going well.
Love the T-shirt Fender forever 🎸
It doesn’t let me
I just want games for Chrome OS... I Just want to be happy...

@@paulmanzueta3956 Stadia. Hang in there.
Gosh....I want you to be happy too....
I appreciate your channel. Do you play guitar? You should throw something up on your channel...
