  • It's so important to teach your bird to use all of the space in their cage! If they only hang out in the top third or half, then they are missing out on a huge portion of available space for enrichment and exercise!
A huge thanks to my friends over at ‪@NorthernParrots‬ for sending the clock these goodies for their cages!

My birds are happy to use the entirety of their cage. I just don’t like putting perches at the bottom because they will get pooped on really quickly, and are difficult for me to clean regularly. So I have plenty of toys and perches for them at the top 2/3 of the cage, and leave the bottom 1/3 of the cage empty so that I don’t have to spend so much time keeping up with the clean up. It also makes cleaning the cage bottom easier since it gives me more space for my hands. They still go to the bottom of the cage to forage for dropped treats though!

My birds always use every space in their cage haha! 3 days ago my bird died; she had this illness for a few months about 4 months and she couldn't fight. Consulting vets still didn't help. She was worth every penny though 😪

The bars are really a nightmare to clean 😢 Is the substrate product you use available in Australia? And what other substrate materials, if any, do you recommend?

You can use any dust free, unscented and untreated pine shavings for small animals 😊

I am Aussie! I use Breeders Choice Cat Litter, it's made of paper in pellet form and is safe for birds according to some experts!

Great video! And good advice on having softer toys, I'll be on the lookout. Question about foraging: Since the bottom of the cage is basically a minefield of poop flying down from above, our foraging toys get pooped on a lot within a single day (we've got branches all over the cage so there isn't really any spot that they can't poop from haha). Any tips on that? Or just accept it and clean the toys at the end of the day?

P.S. The throwing things out of the box toy is so smart! I love it.

Either strategically place them in possible no poop spots or just put enough in for them to play with in one day at a time 😊
