I've tried learning from so many channels/websites/apps/books and yours is by far the best resource I've found. You explain things at the perfect speed, with relevant examples, and you always point out exceptions with words and phrases - which is SUPER useful to get into good habits. I've actually started going back to your very first videos and am writing each one of your lessons into a notebook and studying from them :) So I'm not caught up on any of the Vocabmas videos yet, but please keep making videos like this - they're so incredibly helpful! For home study, I can also recommend the Japanese reader by Oreste Vaccari. It's available on Amazon for not too much. It doesn't require you to know any Japanese; it leads you by the hand through simple one syllable words and expands from there. Just make sure you're getting the complete collected edition and not the multiple volume parts. It really helped my studies.

Yes, you can get rid of the "お" in the beginning for informal speech, it's just a honorific. Also Misa said that using "さん" is MORE formal, but it's not completely formal, あに is formal. Using さん or ちゃん depends more on your type of personality, since Alphonse is more respectful in general he preffers to use さん。

家族 "family" was simple to me to learn, bc we've already learnt 水族館 "aquarium". The second kanji of 家族 and the middle kanji of 水族館 are the same. 家, when it stands alone means "house"

In one anime I've heard one character calling his own mother おふくろ (not sure if I spelled it correctly). Can such a word be used in the real life or is it only the anime thing?

why does the reading for 母 change from はは to かあ？ im confused because i thought that the readings of kanji only change when another kanji is put next to it?
Is there a way to say "brother" or "sister" in general? Like if I forget whether my friend's sibling is older or younger can I say like シスターさんは元気？or something lol
So I learned from this that I also don't know English very well. (I thought "mum" was a flower - we used to buy mums for high school events in the 1980s... Now I know it can also mean "female parent".)
Anime characters also use "okusan" in place of a name when talking TO someone's wife (In Detective Conan, Kogoro often calls the wife of a murder victim "okusan"). Same thing for "Okaa-san" when referring to someone else's mother (in Gosei Sentai Dairanger, Rin calls Kou's mother "Okaa-san"). Kids in anime and tokusatsu also universally call all younger-looking older people "big brother" and "big sister" and older looking people "aunt" and "uncle." Also, many women in anime get offended by kids and teenagers calling them "oba-san." Anime characters also use "musume" as a generic for sexy young teenager girls and women. And what about characters who say "chichi wei?" Also in anime, some characters just say "Kaa-san" and "Tou-san" for parents or "Baa-chan" and "Jii-chan" for grandparents.
We often use 母親 and 父親 if we speak about her/him in an objective point of view to a relatioonship of someone. For example, a detective ask his/her co-worker ''who is this woman'', the answer will be 「容疑者の父親です」 ((He is) the father of the suspect.) Or we call our own parents as 「父親」, when we feel (sense) him bit distant from ourselves, psycologically. This is the common nuance, I think.
I don't understand how かける can mean I lock for example かぎ を かける and it's used completely different hear in the sentence I'll call my wife おくさん に でんわ を かける🤔
Loads of words, but I’ll just study the ones that are most useful for me. When I visit Japan with my girlfriend, I can refer to her as “kanojo”, right?

It's like in Philippines we call our older siblings Kuya(for older brother), and Ate(for older sister).

What if you have 2 older sisters? How do you call them? What if you have a twin?
I believe, 双子 is twin ( ふたご ) and two sisters you could use 姉妹 ( しまい ) so like 私の姉妹... (my sisters)
