Thanks for posting this. I have 21 single pane windows on my first floor, and the extensive raised panel walls make replacing them very difficult. I think something like this would be a perfect fit. Too bad I just spent $1700 rebuilding the existing storms…. But oh well, perks of owning a house :)

Thanks for the video! Could you provide a link for where I can buy these replacement sashes? Can these PVC sashes to replace aluminum sashes?

I don’t think these would work with an aluminum frame. There is a link in the description for distributors.

I have similar windows to your original windows can't you shift the window to the left to remove them rather than cut?

Great DIY video. Can you provide the width of the balance track. The cavity between inner and outer stops on my windows is about 3.5” wide. Want to ensure these will fit. Thanks!

My tracks are 3 1/4 inches. You might be able to replace the exterior stops and make it a tighter fit. Or if you decide to remove the inside trim peice instead of cutting the window out, you could replace it with a bigger peice of trim.

Can you paint these to match outside trim color? What is the brand name of these? The link doesn't work.

How were you able to get a perfect size for the sashes and side tracks? Did the manufacturer customize the size to 1/16" or better? Were your window boxes/frames perfectly square? This is definitely a less expensive way to replace a window.

I have these windows...they're nice but seem leaky in the winter. Not sure if the window design or the installation is problem.

      W. Scott, I noticed I had a couple windows that had a small draft coming through as well. It turns out I had set the balance screws in too far which wasn’t allowing the window to seal properly on the sides. After backing the screws out the draft went away. The sash should be completely flush with the balance. On another window, my frame had “settled” so it wasn’t square at the top. I added some weather stripping to the top and solved the problem.
I installed a couple windows in my basement a few years ago and didn’t add the decorative insert on the balance that covers the open track. That was a little bit drafty until I put the inserts in place.

Yes, I think it's more an installation issue because the draftiness varies from window to window...weatherstripping has helped...thanks for the vid

Daniel Mazor I purchased them from Lummus Supply Company in Alpharetta, Ga. The manufacturer is Enviroguard. If your not local you can find other distributors on their website at www.norot.com.

Cool tip cutting the windows out. This will save me time and $ not having to remove and replace the molded wood trim locking my current sash in place.

Also, 24 windows in 8 hours is awesome. And to think installers get $300 to $500 a window just for labor.

Kevr we only charge 150 a window for labor in the Memphis area

Daniel we just purchased a 10 year old Hedgewood home in Norcross. The east facing wood window sashes are ALL rotten ! If you are not VERY VERY careful opening them they simply fall apart in your hands. The track are in good shape I was hoping to get away with just purchasing new sashes. Was Lummus easy to work with and what dimensions did you have to give them ? Thanks for the video !

OMG Sawing into true divided lite, wood windows like that because you don't know how to properly remove a sash. Unreal. Those windows were worth saving. Could have been restored, re-weatherstripped, and with storms, would have been close to double pane. Could have resold them if they hadn't been sawed. Very unfortunate.

hyperlexis I’m sorry I disappointed you by destroying the windows. If I had known you were willing to remove and replace all my trim and plantation shutters, then caulk and repaint. I would have let you remove them without damage. All joking aside, these windows were beyond repair. I appreciate your comment and thank you for letting people know these windows can be removed without damage. But it is a lot more time consuming.

RUBIWHO it made me Sad! :( It probably even made Jesus sad. Had I known I would have helped you save them. :( Oh well next time!

@@rupie24 why not just remove the inner stop on either side and one at the top. You cut the paint between the stop and the trim and then ory the stop free. Then install the window and replace the stops. A lot easier and cleaner than cutting the window. I've done this with wood window sash replacements but not PVC. Moving to a new home and done want the maintenance hassle of wood. I will of course be offer the old windows to whomever wants them for projects. Also I'm sure that the vinyl and PVC version actually open versus wood that may not after painting.

      @rupie24  5 лет назад

I could have. But I had two hurdles if I went that route. 1.) I would have had to remove my plantation shutters. 2.) the interior trim has multiple layers of oil based paint. Cutting the paint line would have created much more work, sanding and caulking.

UPVC goes brittle and looses it's finish in about 20yrs can't be safely disposed of. Wood can be repainted/repaired lasts 50 + yrs has higher insulation value, kinder to the planet keeps craftsmen in business.

If you have 10x the funds to replace your windows, sure, you can buy a much better window. This is a budget fix for people with single pane glass. I have the wood version in my basement and I’m much happier with the PVC in terms of quality. And yes, the PVC will need to be painted within 10 years to maintain it durability so I won’t have to dispose of them.
