My car is going along at 70 and then all of a sudden slows suddenly saying 40, no sign of a 40 anywhere. Can you switch off the gps and only have the actual roadside reading? Thanks for the great content!
Thank you glad you love the videos! Sadly no I haven’t seen that option before on the menus. I believe it’ll always use both. There’s the option to toggle on / off the Route Based Speed Adaption which is that particular system. But yes if the maps are not updated, then this could happen from time to time.
where is the bit about cruise control reset button with an added feature of automatically adjusting the car speed. mine is an A class Executive Edition
Hey Nils, for the car automatically adjusting it’s speed you’ll need the Driving Assistance Package which isn’t included in executive, premium or premium plus on it’s own. You’ll have to add that too, I’ve covered it another video if you wanted to watch 🤓
Fantastic video! I'm looking at purchasing an A35 with the Driver Assistance package (2019 or 2020 model) and just wondered does this package include the 'semi-autonomous' driving on motorways where you have to keep your hands on the wheel but it will steer for you and keep a specific distance from cars in front? Can't believe how amazing the features are
Hey Harry! Absolutely it’s main feature is Active Distance Assist which can maintain your distance to the car in front. It’s an incredible package 🤓 Of course the whole thing runs with the driver actually driving the car and it assisting with certain elements to take the strain off long drives
@@npoleary I'm trying...lol its when the sensor is on lookimg for spaces.. it finds a spot and then I push the accelerator but the remote steering and parking doesn't work...😕
Ah perfect Darren, so what you do is press the P button, drive past the space you want to park in and it should make a “bing” sound when it’s found a suitable space. Next select the space you want on the screen using the wheel or touchpad on centre console and follow all of the instructions. When you get to the end, that’s when you can accelerate and brake and let the car do the steering. For safety, if you touch the wheel the whole thing will cancel. Hope that helps!
Hi Nick fantastic video as always.. I own E220 2020 year model and I'm having trouble with the voice command..it's very temperamental..sometimes it gets what I say and other times it doesn't..may be because of my accent but I had a 3series 2018 and didn't struggle with it that much..unfortunately, the car doesn't have the voice individualisation option..could you advise please kind regards Soliman
Hi Soliman, I know that it won’t work like MBUX (the latest infotainment system), it only works with the exact commands on the screen. I’ve found for example if you want to navigate home, you could say “Navigate Home” or “Last Destinations” but you can’t say, “I’d like to navigate home” as it only works via the commands shown on the screen. I haven’t seen any settings to control for the voice input as I think they’re set as they are. When you activate the voice command you can also select them manually on the screen.
Hi Nick, another great video and thanks for doing it. What about the feature which puts the car into Parking Mode from Drive if you open the driver side door by mistake in situations where the car is in still position. Does it impact the transmission in the long run?
Hi Dars Munawer, Yes most Mercedes-Benz can do that now for safety, it's there as an aid just in case you forgot to put the car into Park. It won't cause any more wear and tear if you're stationary and you do that. From a safety point of view, I'd always secure the car first though before opening the door! :)
can you please make a video on how to turn on the animation on the c class. I am talking about the new models which are equipped with digital drivers display. And by animation i mean when you get inside a car and when you press the start/stop button a cool animation plays on the digital drivers display, it shows the Mercedes logo and then the front-end of the model you are in. My C-Class had it when i got the delivery but one day after delivery it went away. So could you please make a video on how to turn it on as i cant find it anywhere. Much appreciate it. Thanks!!
Hi Sushant Mittal, I know the one you're talking about! I've seen it when getting in loads of times! There are no settings for this animation, but the animation appears only when you do this: (Make sure the car has been locked for a few minutes before doing this) Unlock the car, sit down and shut the door but only press the engine start/stop button without putting your foot on the brake pedal. It will then play the animation. If you do have your foot on the brake, it'll skip the animation and go straight to the screen you need to see (mph, revs etc) Hope that helps!
Nick O'Leary thanks for replying!! But yes I did try those steps and the animation just doesn’t come up. I have also factory restored my infotainment but still no luck. I have seen it in many c classes which are on the floor so the c class definitely have them. Is there any other way??
Nick O'Leary also when I unlock the car, sit down I see the blank screen with my odometer and the parking brake but as soon as I shut the door it goes straight to the speedometer and the tachometer I have also tried this Unlocking the car opening the door not shutting it and pressing the start/stop button (without pressing the brake pedal)
That’s rather strange! I hate to say there are no settings in the actual car’s computer that you or I can access so the only other option is just mention it to your local Mercedes-Benz dealership. I’m sure they’ll be able to help you! It’s rather strange it’s not doing it...
Monkeyboysteve - Assuming you’re on the correct software version. I believe that it was broken in a software version last year, but the latest update fixes it.
Hi Nick. Another awesome video. Does active brake assist and lane assist require me to turn on distronic? Or as soon as I start the car, it works? Would love to see a comprehensive video on just Driving Assist and Distronic. Thanks.
Hi Richard, Best to check with your local Mercedes-Benz on this one as I don’t want to give you the correct info. Some Mercedes-Benz that have been made over the past couple of years will have these things as standard. Which model do you have Richard?
Hi Richard, The latest model GLE 2020 come with Active Brake Assist and Lane Keeping Assist as standard (in the UK). I’d imagine it’s the same for you across the sea! You don’t need to turn on Distronic for those functions to work. Hope that answers your question! 🤓
Hi Bryan, It shouldn't do it all of the time, only if you're cruising and wander over a lane without indicating. Of course if you indicate, it will disable this feature temporarily. If you don't think it's behaving as it should, speak to your local Mercedes-Benz showroom, they should be able to help!
What is the similarity between C model and GLC model, for example. Or between S model and GLS model, apart from one is a sedan and the other an SUV?? Thanks Nick
Hi Chaz M, Well quite easily anything that starts with “GL” basically means off road car or SUV. So GLA = Based on A-Class GLB = Based on B-Class GLC = GLC based on C-Class Etc Both non SUV version and Normal version are very similar and feature virtually the same layout and buttons on the inside!
Speed limit assist seems a bit hit or miss in the B class (2020) shows the signs half the time and has been wrong on quite a few occasions. Also the limit disappears after a whole from the dash which seems to defeat the purpose entirely. Wish I had the option to upgrade to the traffic sign assist in my B class AMG line premium as it seems a far more reliable system. Also don't think mine has the active bonnet accordingto Euro Ncap.
Hi Mate, My AClass 2019 has been doing a fantastic job. Now i turn on speed limit alert, give 5 as threshold and double tap limit whenever it alerts me. Very convenient way to avoid fines
@@nammalilleee3207 Do you have traffic sign assist or just speed alerts? 90% of the time there is no speed limit shown on my dash so the car has no idea what the speed limit is at the time. would be very convenient if it worked.

I'm getting my first Mercedes in a few weeks. But I am fretting over the fact that i have to now remember how to put my signals lights on. How do you remember from driving a normal car ( can't think of a betrer way to say it). I did test drive one. I struggled with the left turn indicator quite a few times. My husband has a mercedes too and he did give me a tip but it didn't help me.😬 i know i will get there after driving it a few times in an empty car park somewhere. I'm also surprised after searching for a few days on google for help, nothing has come up on that. Maybe you would be the first to post a video on it. I'm upgrading from a Nissan Qashqai to 2020 GLB 250 . Please Help!
Hi thanks for your message, Just to reassure you, Active Lane Keeping Assist is there as a safety system and if you intentionally drive over a white line to avoid something then of course this system won't engage. It's basically there to stop someone drifting over if they were distracted by something etc. The indicators in the car are no different to normal indicators :)
Active Lane Keeping Assist is terrible on my new CLA. The way it brakes one side of the car is quite violent and gives me a major fright when everything else is perfectly under control. To make matters worse it cannot be permanently disabled and is always on by default each time the engine is started. It is my car so I should be able to permanently turn it off if I choose to do so. Yes I realise the system will not react if an indicator is activated, but it is not always necessary to routinely do so. This is a system which has good intentions, but in practice is widely unpopular and disliked by owners.
Hey RON240R, It is designed to be a jolt if you went over a line as the brakes on one side of the car are actually going on. But as you said it does turn off if you indicate. If you don’t think something’s right, chat to your local Mercedes-Benz and they can check it out for you 🤓
Hi Peter, Not sure if it's a new CLA with MBUX or the previous model but on the new one Traffic Sign Assist is part of the Premium Plus package so if you have that it's under Vehicle Settings (left screen) and then in a thing called Assistance. You should find it in there. If you have the previous model, it is located on the right screen, using the controls on the steering wheel keep pressing right until you find a thing either called settings or assistance and it'll be in there. Hope that answers your question!
Hi Mohamad, It’ll activate if the car detected a pedestrian being hit at the front of the car and triggers on impact. Hopefully you never see that! It’s there to potentially save someone’s life as the impact to bonnet is lessened.
I nearly got rear ended when my car decided to do a emergency stop, after having my car for not even 2 weeks from new. I was following a bus, not too closely, i didn't even have the red car icon on the dash, its started to indicate and slow to stop for a bus stop, i started to move over to overtake the bus, i was passed the line of the bus so could easily pass it, but all of a sudden my car did a emergency stop, all i heard was a van behind me screeching to a halt, then went on to beeping at me and swearing abuse, i didnt blame him, no reason for my car to do that, if i could turn off that function permanently i would, its dangerous
Hi wolfe1970, So that sounds like it was Active Brake Assist performing that emergency stop. It is a really good system and has even saved lives on multiple occasions. People rave about it all of the time, however in this situation it sounds like the car thought there wasn't enough room to fit through and this is why it did this. Now I don't know for sure, but because driving is such a complex task and can involve many many different situations & scenarios it's difficult for me to say exactly what that happened here as the radar only detected an object approaching fairly quickly and the car thought that was the best course of action. It depends how close the bus was to your car etc. If you are concerned and you don't think that it's operating correctly, phone up and get your A-Class checked over by a Mercedes-Benz dealership just for peace of mind. You can also if you wish adjust the sensitivity of Active Brake Assist in 'Settings' then 'Assistance' on the left screen. Choose the option 'Late' to offer the red warning triangle, the sound and braking later than normal in the event of an emergency.
@@npoleary Thank you for replying, its hard to think back now, so cant say for sure if there where cars coming towards me, i would be lying if i said one way or other, i will check out the sensitivity of the system and see about turning it down, For a long time before i got this car ive followed this function, more so on the Mercedes trucks, and seen how it can save lives, i like the feature, i just felt in this scenario it wasnt needed and could have ended badly for me, i could easily be accused of brake checking the driver behind and getting fined for it, specially if he had a dash cam and watched my emergency brake for no reason, that was more of my concern over the whole situation, i am more aware of it now so will perhaps leave more room when passing slow moving or stopped vehicles.
Hi wofle1970, Yeah of course okay try that out, any issues just get in touch with the dealership and they can look into it for you and of course any other queries, just message me on here 🤓
Hi Jabba, All new cars even today and over the coming years are going to come with driving assistance systems to help assist drivers on the road. I’d imagine autonomous vehicles will be at the end of the road where you don’t even need to drive!
Nick O'Leary Thank you for your reply, I’m sure you are correct in your assumption. My rant is directed at manufacturers who create systems that remove control from the driver. My e 350 coupe will bleep at different levels of insistence if I drive on a private road long enough without a seatbelt on, the thought that the car might decide to shut itself down because it considers me at risk is annoying at the least.

It’s an incredible package 🤓
Of course the whole thing runs with the driver actually driving the car and it assisting with certain elements to take the strain off long drives
Great vid Nick I'm still trying to get my S to remote park, after your first video you put out on it.....lol
Hi Darren,
I'm sure you can do it! :)
Where are you getting stuck?
@@npoleary I'm trying...lol its when the sensor is on lookimg for spaces.. it finds a spot and then I push the accelerator but the remote steering and parking doesn't work...😕
Hi Darren,
Sorry I know you mentioned before but what model of Mercedes-Benz did you have (and the year) and I’ll try and help you out!
@@npoleary it's a Sclass 2019 model 350d thanks Nick👍
Ah perfect Darren, so what you do is press the P button, drive past the space you want to park in and it should make a “bing” sound when it’s found a suitable space.
Next select the space you want on the screen using the wheel or touchpad on centre console and follow all of the instructions. When you get to the end, that’s when you can accelerate and brake and let the car do the steering.
For safety, if you touch the wheel the whole thing will cancel.
Hope that helps!
Hi Nick
fantastic video as always.. I own E220 2020 year model and I'm having trouble with the voice command..it's very temperamental..sometimes it gets what I say and other times it doesn't..may be because of my accent but I had a 3series 2018 and didn't struggle with it that much..unfortunately, the car doesn't have the voice individualisation option..could you advise please
kind regards
Soliman
Hi Soliman,
I know that it won’t work like MBUX (the latest infotainment system), it only works with the exact commands on the screen.
@@npoleary
Many thanks Nick for your informative reply. That is really helpful
Thanks for your time and very appreciated
No worries! Hope you get it sorted!
Hey Nick, great tutorials! Thank you for doing this. Question: Does the 2020 glb come with lane keep assist as standard feature?
Hi Nelson Li,
Yes in the UK, GLB’s have Active Lane Keeping Assist as standard 🤓
Hi Nick, another great video and thanks for doing it. What about the feature which puts the car into Parking Mode from Drive if you open the driver side door by mistake in situations where the car is in still position. Does it impact the transmission in the long run?
Hi Dars Munawer,
Yes most Mercedes-Benz can do that now for safety, it's there as an aid just in case you forgot to put the car into Park.
Thanks!!
Hi Sushant Mittal,
I know the one you're talking about! I've seen it when getting in loads of times! There are no settings for this animation, but the animation appears only when you do this:
(Make sure the car has been locked for a few minutes before doing this)
Unlock the car, sit down and shut the door but only press the engine start/stop button without putting your foot on the brake pedal. It will then play the animation.
If you do have your foot on the brake, it'll skip the animation and go straight to the screen you need to see (mph, revs etc)
Hope that helps!
Nick O'Leary thanks for replying!! But yes I did try those steps and the animation just doesn’t come up. I have also factory restored my infotainment but still no luck. I have seen it in many c classes which are on the floor so the c class definitely have them. Is there any other way??
Nick O'Leary also when I unlock the car, sit down I see the blank screen with my odometer and the parking brake but as soon as I shut the door it goes straight to the speedometer and the tachometer
I have also tried this
Unlocking the car opening the door not shutting it and pressing the start/stop button (without pressing the brake pedal)
That’s rather strange! I hate to say there are no settings in the actual car’s computer that you or I can access so the only other option is just mention it to your local Mercedes-Benz dealership. I’m sure they’ll be able to help you!
It’s rather strange it’s not doing it...
Nick O'Leary Ye I reckon the best option is to go to my local dealership
But I appreciate that you took your time and tried to help me !!
Hi Nick, talking of speeding, does the latest MBUX system warn you of speed camera locations when navigating?
Hi M.L,
Unfortunately, not speed cameras but it’ll show you the speed limit for the road!
M.L in Germany its actually illegal to have a system like that
@@paulschafer9833 interesting, didn't know that..
Easy to get it working with personal POI's on a memory stick.
Thanks.
Hi Richard,
Best to check with your local Mercedes-Benz on this one as I don’t want to give you the correct info. Some Mercedes-Benz that have been made over the past couple of years will have these things as standard.
Which model do you have Richard?
@@npoleary Hi Nick. I have a 2020 GLE 450 SUV. Mine does have the distronic package. I bought it. I am in New York City if that helps. Thanks!
Hi Richard,
The latest model GLE 2020 come with Active Brake Assist and Lane Keeping Assist as standard (in the UK). I’d imagine it’s the same for you across the sea! You don’t need to turn on Distronic for those functions to work.
Hope that answers your question! 🤓
Nick O'Leary yes. It does. Thanks Nick!
Those features are independent of distronic
Active Lane Keeping Assist - the thing I switch off when I start my car - it's a pain around town where we have narrow lanes.
That sound scares you every time
I have noticed its pretty smart enough not to annoy you when you make intentional moves
Hi Bryan,
It shouldn't do it all of the time, only if you're cruising and wander over a lane without indicating. Of course if you indicate, it will disable this feature temporarily.
If you don't think it's behaving as it should, speak to your local Mercedes-Benz showroom, they should be able to help!
only works above 40mph, so shouldn't be working around towns.
What is the similarity between C model and GLC model, for example. Or between S model and GLS model, apart from one is a sedan and the other an SUV??
Thanks Nick
Hi Chaz M,
Well quite easily anything that starts with “GL” basically means off road car or SUV.
So GLA = Based on A-Class
GLB = Based on B-Class
GLC = GLC based on C-Class
Etc
Both non SUV version and Normal version are very similar and feature virtually the same layout and buttons on the inside!
Hi Mate,
My AClass 2019 has been doing a fantastic job.
Hi Monkeyboysteve,
If it's not showing 90% of the time, I'd speak to your local Mercedes-Benz showroom, they will be able to diagnose why that's not working as it should show you the speed limits most of the time.
@@npoleary Yeah, it will show directly after passing a sign, but a few minutes later speed limit on dash disappears if I haven't passed any new speed signs.
It's going in on the 18th for gearbox issues and to have the software updated... list of stuff that needs looking at seems to be growing daily.
@@monkeyboysteve3807 i have the trafic sign assist and speed alert.
I use it with the speed limiter to always drive in limits.
Yours seems to be some issue with the unit
I have a 2013 W204 and it had a voice saying Please observe the speed limit - this has now disappeared - how can I get that back.
Really sorry I only started my RUclips Channel in 2020 so have limited coverage on cars prior to that. I’d recommend to reach out to a dealer and Mercedes staff should be able to help 🤓
well thank you from Calgary Canada, I have been retired for 13 years but if I was to return to work ,I want your job, you do a great job,I just ordered a 2021 mercedes benz GLC 300 4 Matic , premium ,premium plus ,intelligent drive , sport package and AMG 255/273 , Am I needing anything else. merci/cheers white exterior and red seats.
Thanks Guy!
Very nice spec on your car! I'm sure you'll love it!
Hi thanks for your message,
Just to reassure you, Active Lane Keeping Assist is there as a safety system and if you intentionally drive over a white line to avoid something then of course this system won't engage. It's basically there to stop someone drifting over if they were distracted by something etc.
The indicators in the car are no different to normal indicators :)
The colour of the car is the polar white?
Yes that’s it 🤓
Active Lane Keeping Assist is terrible on my new CLA.
Hey RON240R,
It is designed to be a jolt if you went over a line as the brakes on one side of the car are actually going on. But as you said it does turn off if you indicate.
If you don’t think something’s right, chat to your local Mercedes-Benz and they can check it out for you 🤓
How do u activate traffic sign assist on a CLA 250
Hi Peter,
Not sure if it's a new CLA with MBUX or the previous model but on the new one Traffic Sign Assist is part of the Premium Plus package so if you have that it's under Vehicle Settings (left screen) and then in a thing called Assistance. You should find it in there.
If you have the previous model, it is located on the right screen, using the controls on the steering wheel keep pressing right until you find a thing either called settings or assistance and it'll be in there.
Hope that answers your question!
Nick O'Leary fanx you
What activates the active bonnet? Didn't get that part clearly
Hi Mohamad,
It’ll activate if the car detected a pedestrian being hit at the front of the car and triggers on impact. Hopefully you never see that! It’s there to potentially save someone’s life as the impact to bonnet is lessened.
Nick O'Leary Now I've got it, Thanks a lot
Hi wolfe1970,
So that sounds like it was Active Brake Assist performing that emergency stop.
@@npoleary Thank you for replying, its hard to think back now, so cant say for sure if there where cars coming towards me, i would be lying if i said one way or other, i will check out the sensitivity of the system and see about turning it down,
For a long time before i got this car ive followed this function, more so on the Mercedes trucks, and seen how it can save lives, i like the feature, i just felt in this scenario it wasnt needed and could have ended badly for me, i could easily be accused of brake checking the driver behind and getting fined for it, specially if he had a dash cam and watched my emergency brake for no reason, that was more of my concern over the whole situation, i am more aware of it now so will perhaps leave more room when passing slow moving or stopped vehicles.
Hi wofle1970,
Yeah of course okay try that out, any issues just get in touch with the dealership and they can look into it for you and of course any other queries, just message me on here 🤓
👍🏼👍🏼
What is this rubbish ? Bloody car telling me how to drive. The nanny state is here
Hi Jabba,
All new cars even today and over the coming years are going to come with driving assistance systems to help assist drivers on the road.
Hi Nick, the traffic sign assist works using both what it sees on the road side and gps? My map is out of date and I refuse to pay a ridiculous sum to update it when I can use waze etc through car play. My car is going along at 70 and then all of a sudden slows suddenly saying 40, no sign of a 40 anywhere. Can you switch off the gps and only have the actual roadside reading? Thanks for the great content!
