    Anyone carry Anson Calder? What are your feelings? Is price secondary to finding a wallet that meets all your needs?

      I recently purchased the Anson Calder Billfold based on this review. Had been thinking about it for some time and will admit the price is more than I have ever spent on a wallet before. That being said I do love the wallet. I have 12 cards in it and it still is nice and slim. Fits in the front or back pocket, the leather smells great and it looks like this thing is built to last. While I do feel the price is a little high I do not regret the decision at all and I'm actually considering adding the cash wallet for when I want to carry a little less.

      @@donmaher1549 agreed. Love their wallets we've reviewed so far, but the price is a little high. But the longevity and design has been thoughtful.

      I purchased both the anson calder and bellroy premium. The anson is cheap theres no inner liner and its super floppy. I think the bellroy is way better and the anson looks like a $20 dollar wallet not worth $130 for sure.

    • @walletopia
      @walletopia  3 года назад +2

      @@farmandbasketballvideos5798 actually no liner is really a better thing in my mind. It's usually where manufactures place their RFID material, which isn't needed and will weaken the wallet over time. Take the liner out and put the Bellroy down to a single layer of leather construction like the Anson Calder and it will be thinner in leather weight than the Anson Calder, more floppy and will really seem cheap. I like them both, but the calfskin leather on the Anson Calder is higher quality. I agree it's a big pricey. Something around the $80 range would be more in line with the market, but they're shooting for a different clientele.

    I've been watching your reviews for hours trying to find a new wallet. Thanks to you, I've decided on this one. The main thing that sold it for me is how clean and even it looks closed compared to many higher rated wallets. Maybe it's overlooked or not important, but after you pointed out how it looks closed in this video, everything else just didn't look right to me. Thank you again for the detailed reviews.

      Oh, it's that price alright. If you peruse their site, you'll find that they push a premium.

  • @Gary-ib8dz

    What is the length when it's closed? Anson Calder lists the 7" number on their website. That is fine, but they should list the size when it's closed since that is how it would be carried.

  • @SteelHex

    At that price, it should get 1 star for price, just like the Abrasus wallet. The Abrasus is a far better design which requires considerably more work and craftmanship to make.

    • @walletopia
      @walletopia  4 года назад +2

      The price on this one also took into consideration that the leather shipped from France to California where it was made, but you do make a good observation! However, when I consider the score, I never compare it to other wallets, only to itself and the brand/maker it sits within, so there will appear to be some inconsistencies if you compare. When I do comparisons between wallets is when those deltas come out.

    • @SteelHex
      @SteelHex 4 года назад +1

      The Buttero leather used in your particular Abrasus is made in Italy, which was then shipped to Japan. That’s about the same distance, if not more.
      I understand that you reviewed this a long time ago, while the small Abrasus wallet was reviewed two months ago. The way you assign the stars might have changed between them. No big deal.
      This Anson Calder wallet just rubs me the wrong way with its price. It charges like a well known luxury brand, but without actual brand recognition. It still shows the raw leather side, like something I can pick up at Etsy for $50. Sorry to bring up the small Abrasus again, their price is high but the amount of detail they put into the product is very high. Coin slot, riveted retainer strap, 3D card compartment, snap button, all this with no raw leather exposed.

    • @walletopia
      @walletopia  4 года назад +2

      All very good points and I can't disagree. In retrospect, part of the price rating I applied to the Abrasus wallets included the shipping which was not a dimension I applied to other wallets, so that created an unfair position. Discoveries like this is why I created the 2nd LOOK reviews, which allows adjustment based on learnings over time! 😀. Great observations SteelHex, thank you!

    • @SteelHex
      @SteelHex 4 года назад +3

      Thanks for being open minded.
      When a wallet reaches $150 price point, it competes with established global luxury brands like Coach, Aigner, Mont Blanc, and the like. Abrasus doesn’t have the name recognition, but I dare say their quality rivals or eclipses those brands. I would even pit Abrasus against Louis Vuitton at 3 times the price.
      For Anson Calder to charge that price just because it ships in a magnetic cardhoard box is ridiculous. I know he’s trying to be like Apple, but he’s not Steve Jobs and his wallets are nowhere near as revolutionary as the iPhone.
      Rant over.

    • @walletopia
      @walletopia  5 лет назад

      4.5? You bet! If your perception of the value of the wallet is that high, then perfect! That's the one factor I cant take into consideration, "value". That's a very personal thing. So if you disagree and find something either higher or lower, then that's an expression of the value you're placing on it. Personally, I really like Anson Calder's wallets and personally do find the value of their offering and price to be acceptable for what I get. BUT, when I consider the actual offering objectively, the price is very high, which in the rating formula has a strong weight :)
