I bought one of the first models. This thing has paid for itself thousands of times over.. no kidding. It kicks ass and stays steady as a rock. Crappy drummers beware, your gigging days are numbered...
I just got mine in the mail yesterday. Pre ordered. Plugged it in to two powered monitors and jammed for hours without reading the manual. This pedal is the simply drum machine I've been searching for for years. Well worth every penny.
I have this and I've run it thru my amps in the chain and it sounds fine. I've also tested it thru a separate combo amp alone and yes it does sound better. The point is if you only have one amp don't be afraid to use this thing it sounds great.
I currently use an Alesis SR16 with a duo. What I dig about that is that is that sounds like a 90s drum machine - it's like we're not trying to 'fake' a drummer. The Beat Buddy sounds more like those 'realistic drummer' plugins for your DAW, which is cool but then part of me thinks if you're using a drum machine you might as well have it sound a bit electronic.
But will the Beat Buddy and a Looper work together totally in sync? I have a Boss RC30 Looper and a Alesis Drum Machine (which has also a foot control feature: start/play, fill 1/2, pattern 1 / 2) and it doesn't work, because the Looper has its own "inner" timing, than the Looper has; so, if the Drum Machine Tempo is at 120, the Looper will have 119 or 118 and than it is out of sync…(I experienced it at least…)
Manuel Arslanyan The BeatBuddy can be a MIDI master or slave so it should work with other MIDI devices, like the Alesis Drum Machine. The Boss RC30 doesn't have MIDI so I wouldn't expect it to stay in sync with anything but itself.
This is exactly what I need for practice. So much more spontaneous than a pre-recorded backing track offers. Maybe Santa will be kind and put one of these in my stocking this year!
It looks fantastic and very well-thought of, but I imagine many guitarists and/or bass layers will buy it and play it through their amp without expecting it to sound poor, which is exactly what will happen since bass & guitar amps have an EQ range that's tailored to the instruments and very different from say a PA, active monitors, hi-fi or any other stereo full-range amp & speaker set. Its webpage should come with a warning that optimum results will ONLY come through a full range amp & speaker set and not through a guitar/bass amp.
Thanks for the comment... I am glad they do. It's not a crime if a guitarist is not aware of the frequency response of his guitar amp & speaker and what happens to full range material being played through it, but it would be bad if they didn't mention it themselves...
bloodySunday77 i picked one of these up...running it thru my pedalboard with an electro harmonix looper and polyphonic octave generator...i can create drum lines and run bass over that to create loops i can still play lead over the top of the loops all thru the same amp either vox ac30 or marshall jcm2000...works great sounds great...
For sure...would highly recommend this pedal dude for everyone that says this pedal is over priced...go cost out other drum machines and compare functionality before judging this thing and it's pretty easy to then see this thing is a fucking steal
then it finally made sense... the beat buddy would never leave him, never yell at him for soloing to long, never say it was to busy to jam with him never get drunk and hit him and it would die to play for him
+Evan Gransaull for a brief moment, I thought "wait. how can someone play the guitar and drum at the same time? you need two hands in both cases". then I realised.
Great demo Paul thanks! I've got the Beat Buddy and luv it; long time needed for guitar players. I wondered for years why the 'big guys' (Boss, Alesis, etc.) didn't build this. Finally somebody that understands what we've needed, has built it.
Nice one..been looking if its possible to have yamaha keyboard's accompaniment drums with complete fills intro to outro, verse to chorus hihats, if this added guitar loop rec,it will be more awesome....❤❤❤
wow..this has to be one of the coolest ideas of all times..absolutely brilliant..its one of those products that makes me think "howcome we never thought of this before?!"
Guys, a Drum Machine is a GREAT way to practice & jam by one's self. I have an Alesis, which is quantized (strict time/no human feel). So I am really considering this pedal.
Even at this price, I can see using it quite a bit. In the long run I think it could pay for itself in a lot of ways. There seems as if there's no end to pedals. Now this one which in time. A lot of time. I will make the purchase. I can't think of a time when I heard Andy play the same song twice in the list of all his demo's. He's so damned good.
Interesting.... I like how it geared towards guitar players....like the fill and and change options..... Stompbox style.....will look to demo one for myself
***** If you play guitar, you can get by on bass. Andy is actually surprisingly very good at bass; most guitarists can barely hold it down.Saying that a guitar player can just pick up bass and play it is where the stigma that bassists are bad or lazy comes from in the first place.
Man I remember the day I first saw the ads for these circling on youtube last 2012 i think, they've come a long way. And yeah , I still really really want one.
@@armenvondoms1815 No it's not too much.. have you played through one? I have it, the footswitch & the premium beat card.. one of the all time best pieces of gear I've ever owned.. incredible invention seriously..
So if you LIKE spending lots of time on a manual and then programming each song and then following your own arrangement like a slave to a machine, sweating that if you miss that fill your whole song will be fucked -up...well don't get one of these..get the usual ones where you'll spend more time screwing around with a computer and not making music...but this baby is worth every penny to me...especially for home recordings. And not that sterile quantized sound. Best piece of gear I've bought in many years.
You speak nothing but the truth sir. Every time one of these little pieces of gear comes out all I see is people complaining left and right that it's the end of musicianship as we know it since now everyone can make music with as little effort as possible. When the gadgets are designed as tools to make playing/production easier and more efficient, not as one click music generators.
well done lads I really appreciate the time and trouble you took to construct what I think is a superb demo of a nice looking product. I particularly like how you had the idea to include the large image of the beat buddy so we could watch the changes happening during use. very professional video and product demo so once again a huge thank you for helping us make our choices more informatively !
Really cool pedal!!....but it's on the pricey side. I have the Boss Dr. 880 and with an additional footswitch (up to 4) will do a whole lot more and is reasonably priced.
you can add any midi files to the BeatBuddy and any WAV files to the drum sets. Many users on the Singular Sound forum have created whole arrangements with basslines (and even other instruments) to play on their BeatBuddy
I want one, I could do a lot with the Beat Buddy. I would like to see a better custom MIDI controller. Dedicated controls and a screen readout, mirrored on the controller. I would use it for a looper solo performance. Obviously you get best results running it through a small pa or monitor setup. It does sound pretty natural and less robotic. I wonder how many changes can you do in a song? I like to run my looper in a mixer vs. inline. I use aux sends to feed what ever source I want. Very cool.
Well mine just came in and if the packaging and appearance mean anything then this should be great. The BB itself is also a good looking pedal and with the foot switch this is a complete package and nothing else is needed.Packaging, presentation, materials, accessories A+ And at $300+ it should be. I have a room full of various heads, combos and just as many cabs. I was going to fit it into a loop on one of my rigs but decided to run it solo. Not much time so I plugged it into a Marshall class 5 just to tinker with the various settings. Is it worth 3-$350? Well for a lonely guitarist like me who taps his foot and vocalizes the drums out loud it is. I might pop back in and post more on the actual drums and the beat sounds later when I have some time to make some noise.
So here it is in 2022 and I see they're still selling the same model. Has this not been updated with a newer model aside from the Mini 2? (Just curious...)
I actually need one of these right now...my drummer is on tour with his other band for the next month and a half and we're in the middle of writing a bunch of new songs. How soon can I get my hands on one and how much?
Andy, did you use a looper to do the bass, drum, and guitar parts? If so, can you share which one. I know the MIDI sync is the key... thx. Great video.
What format are the files on the SD? Is it able to play a wav, if I were to make a complete loop of A and B sections of a song including other instruments? Or is it midi that triggers only the internal sounds?

And this drummer is never late!!

True
And he stop banging about when you are trying to tune up.
Or has to tune in the middle of he gig

Another cool thing about the beat buddy is it doesn't drink too much and bust up the place.
But the inventor sells repackaged Chinese ammo to the American government 😂

Totally agree
Hard to know this unless you have done it
(As I have)
I find isolated drum tracks, drum beats and drum loops on RUclips and blast them through my stereo and PA amp and jam, works just as good and it's free.
Good point.
This used with a looper pedal would make the ultimate busker pack!
No Kidding! I have the Ditto one button Looper, all I need to do is finger out how to run the AC only Ditto through some battery pack !

This is a dream come true. A great pedal that sounds completely real!
What a brilliant little machine. I'm a drummer and the drums on this sound really good and acoustic!

Of all the would be drummers who came and went over the years, this thing this machine was the only one who measured up....
We're not gonna make it, are we? Guitar players without BeatBuddy, I mean.
The Beat Buddy can get drunk now. They released an update to change sobriety levels.
This is why I came to the comments
Looks pretty cool, but I already have a beat buddy, otherwise known as my right hand...
***** lmfao

Taking the Waaay Back Machine to the old Pro Guitar Shop vids. Time flies (no pun intended).
That Musician bass is rad as heck.

When Andy says "all that's left is grab a friend and jam," I can't help but notice that Andy's friend looks an awful lot like him.....

Thats Randy... Andys twin bro.

Cool. Def would take some practice but a great writing companion.
Nice bit of kit, works OK with a RC-300 (bit of a Midi sync issue, but it can be over come).
What a genius idea!
Thanks!
Has this pedal been updated being that it’s 5 years old?
Also, anyone know of an app that will play similar to these drum kits. No electro stuff.

Pretty cool BeatBuddy bet it can't go to the fridge and get you a cold beer.....
No, but it can drink your beer ;) ruclips.net/video/QwDYKd6VjGM/видео.html

Fast forward to 2020 - Is there anything better on the market than the beatbuddy today? Thanks
