Heads up to anyone who reads the written pattern. She counts the chain 1 as a stitch. I've ripped this out several times trying to figure out why my stitch count isn't the same. It's because the chain 1 is counted as a stitch. The written pattern is a bit confusing but overall easy to follow. I'm going to keep working at it. I love the stitch and can't wait to see what it's like once I'm finished !
Thank you very much love your work the only problem I have I don't know if it is the color that you choose maybe if you choose something more clear to see where you put the stitch I'm having problem with the corners because I tried but it's not coming out with that v shape so I think it is the color yarn Please explain it even more and show us more details thank you very much keep app the good works God bless you
Because I am a sewer or seamstress as well, I'd like to offer a suggestion. When sewing on a button, put a stick pin across the button so as to make sure there is room for the fabric. Then, wrap the yarn a couple of times under the button before tieing it off. I've learned this the hard way. Good tutorial.
I have been crocheting now for some thirty years and I had not known about this kind of a foundation row. I want to thank you profoundly for this. May God bless you always. It took me some time to learn this but now I can do it perfectly.
I'm an intermediate crocheted and find this video very well made. I am a visual learner and you describe everything perfectly. I made this sweater in gray and love it. Thank you so much.

Hi Sarina. Yes, the sleeve gets smaller as you go, because it is fitted. So as you get closer to the wrist, the sleeve gets smaller. If you prefer a straight sleeve that does not get smaller, then when the pattern instructs you to work Round 2, just keep repeating Round 2 of the sleeve until the sleeve is long enough for you. Thank you for the lovely pattern for this cardigan. Just one bit of advice , it maybe easier to see the stitches when you are working if you use a lighter yarn ? I have just ordered the yarn to make this and looking forward to wearing this 😊
Love this teaching to bits. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain it so well. I am a beginner crocheter so, I will watch this video over and over and see if I will be able to put myself to the test.
Beautiful cardigan. I had some difficulty following this video. Usually your videos and instructions are very clear, and I have no problems following. Perhaps seeing the written pattern will help me. Kudos on creating another beautiful garment!

Oh My Gosh! I just LOVE this cardigan!! I have been searching and searching for my first crocheted wearable, and this is it! I have knit a ton of sweaters, but never crocheted one. Thank you so much!
Thank you for this lovely pattern. I couldn't see the individual stitches, so it was hard to follow visually. I also would place stitch markers after the first row, that way we could see where to place the "hdc, ch 1, hdc"
Thank you for sharing such a detailed pattern. Will surely want to try. I would like to ask for a favour, can you please advice how does not do Row 2 & Row 3 for the size L?
I am not sure I understand your question. Are you wanting to know how to work Row 2 and 3 for size Large, or how to omit Row 2 and 3 from the pattern for size Large? Thanks!
Beautiful pattern ❤️ it's exactly the project that I have been looking for. I do wonder if the blo is an odd numbers of increasing stitches and flo is an even number of increasing stitches. I seem to always have an extra stitch for blo and I am unsure if I skip it work into it the hdc chain one hdc space?
Hi. In this pattern, you always work into the hdc right before the ch-1 space. Do not skip a stitch unless the pattern specifically instructs you to do so. If you have an extra stitch there, I would recommend checking the stitch count of your previous row against the stitch count given in the pattern for the size you are making. Also, please make sure you are working the first stitch of the row into the correct stitch. The pattern instructions say to work the first hdc into the same stitch the ch-2 is coming from. The ch-2 at the beginning of each row does not count as a stitch, so the first hdc is always worked into the same stitch the chain comes from. If you work the first hdc into the stitch after the one the chain is coming from, that will throw off the stitch pattern, and you could end up with an extra stitch before the ch space as you described. I hope this helps!
@@YayForYarn thanks for the reply, I will be sure to count each stitch, some how I am missing 5 stitches so I will frog and start again but I am really enjoying the pattern so far.
Hi - Thank you so much for this lovely pattern. Your video is excellent and has allowed me to reach row 10!!! I'm so proud. I'm wondering through if I can change the stitch of the body of the sweater to maybe a double or triple crochet. This may look contrasting and give more stability?? Any thoughts?? Again, thank you so very much.
Hi! So glad that the video is helpful to you. The sizing and measurements of the sweater pattern is based on the gauge of the back loop / front loop half-double crochet stitch pattern. If you were to switch to double or triple crochet, it would probably throw off the gauge, as the stitches per inch and rows per inch would be different. You could try it and see how it goes, but for best results, I would suggest sticking with the stitch pattern in the pattern instructions. I hope this helps!
Yes this helps and makes a lot of sense. I guess my problem is going back and forth between front and back in the same row. I get confused if the next stitch if front or back. I'm senior and vision is not the best. Could I do one circular length with back loop and one length with front loop?? What do you think - and thanks again for responding. I do love this pattern. @@YayForYarn
Hi - I moving along with my cardigan and I'm making a small size - but...the arm openings for the raglan sleeves seem too small. Do I just keep adding rows 6 & 7? The front looks good it's just that the arm openings are too snug when I try it on. thanks for your help. Chrystal@@YayForYarn
Hi. You could continue repeating rows 6 & 7. That will affect your stitch count, but if you're comfortable with making adjustments, I think that could work to increase the armhole size. Also, did you block your gauge swatch? With some yarns, the gauge can change after blocking. If your gauge swatch became slightly larger after blocking, it could be that the finished project may be slightly larger after blocking as well. I hope this helps!
Really great tutorial, I haven’t seen this approach for crocheting cardigans but I like it a lot and I will try this pattern some time soon. Could you do a review on the furls streamline swirl hook you use in the video? I’m thinking of getting one but I’m unsure. Thank you and all the best
Hi Natalia! I plan on doing a review for the Streamline Swirls soon. The Odysseys are still my #1 favorite, but I like the Streamline Swirls pretty well, too. I prefer the Streamline Swirls over the wooden Streamline hooks. I hope this helps!

Yes, that is correct. You will repeat that pair of rows 7 more times after the first time you worked those rows. So after you have worked Rows 1-5, you will repeat Rows 4-5 seven more times, which will add 14 rows to the 5 rows you already had. Then, the pattern says to repeat Row 4 once more after that. So at that point, you should have a total of 20 rows (not including the foundation single crochet at the beginning of the pattern). I hope this helps!

Hi! I’m working on the gauge swatch for this, this is the first cardigan I’m making so I want to be sure I get it right! But I’m having some trouble getting the right gauge. The first time, I had the right width (16 stitches = 4 in), but the swatch came up about 2.5 inches short. Then I tried making the stitches taller by pulling up more yarn, but it came out too wide. I tried a smaller hook size but it was still too wide. Any advice? Thank you so much for the tutorial and pattern, I can’t wait to make it!
Hi! The question I would ask in this type of scenario is, did you block your gauge swatch? Sometimes, textured stitches like this will lengthen after blocking. If you did not block your swatch, I would suggest going back to the first hook size you tried that produced the correct width, and block the swatch to see if it naturally lengthens as the fabric relaxes. If not, then I would ask if you tend to pull up on the loop on your hook to tighten the loop that is pulled up from the stitch below. (This would make the stitch shorter in height.) Ideally, all the loops on your hook when working a stitch should fit around the size of the hook shaft, without gaps underneath, and without being too tight. When you pull the yarn through the loops on the hook, they should remain the same size as they slide off, and not be tightened afterward. If your loops are about the same size as your hook shaft, and the gauge still does not match after blocking, you could experiment with stretching only the loop that is pulled up from the stitch below, before pulling a new loop through all the loops on the hook to complete the stitch, and see if that helps you match the pattern gauge, but I would recommend that only if trying everything else did not help. I hope this helps!

Beautiful cardigan! Im trying to make this as a birthday gift for my sister. I am a beginner, but I am familiar with all of the crochet terminology and all of the basic stitches this pattern calls for. stuck at the beginning of the second row. I don’t see where I have chain spaces. I was sure I followed that first row to a T. 🥲
Hi. The chain spaces in the row should be at the "corners" of the piece, where you worked "hdc, ch 1, hdc" all in one stitch. That part of the row will create a bend in your piece, where the raglan shaping lines will be. Feel free to send photos of your piece to blogger[at]yayforyarn.com and I will be happy to help troubleshoot. I hope this helps!
Hi, I'm working on a crochet fall video on my crochet channel. Could I use your photo from this video and briefly talk about your video. I would link back to your video so you get traffic and credit. Is that ok? Thanks
I am up to row 8 but I don’t think the arm hole area is going to be big enough. Is there a way to add a couple of rows before joining the arm hole on row 8 to make it a larger opening? I think I have about 6-7 inches on size large and I think I should have closer to 10? Or how many inches sounds like the right size for the arm hole on a large? Thank you.
Hi Sharon. It sounds like you may not have repeated some of the rows enough times. After you've worked Rows 1-5 once, you'll need to repeat rows 4-5 seven more times (for a total of 14 extra rows), and then repeat Row 4 once more after that. So by the time you've finished repeating Rows 4-5 and worked Row 4 once more, you should have a total of 20 rows. Then, after working Rows 6-7 the first time, you'll need to repeat Rows 6-7 once more before moving on to Row 8. If you do have the correct number of rows, then you might re-check your row gauge. If your gauge does not match the pattern in both width and height, it can throw off the size of the finished sweater by quite a lot. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any more questions. I am happy to help!

I love this pattern, but because of the color I am having difficulty in seeing where the stitch to pick up after the increase is . I always have this problem when turning my projects. Can you help me. Respectfully, alana smith
Hi Alana! If you can first identify the chain space, then turn the piece so the top edge of the work is facing up, look at the v-shapes that make up the tops of the stitches. The v-shape from the ch-1 will be directly on top of the chain space hole, so the correct stitch to work into after the chain space will be the next v-shape along that top edge of the work. (You can mark this stitch (first regular stitch after the chain space) with a stitch marker before working into the chain space if that makes it easier to identify in the fabric for you.) If you have any trouble with this, feel free to send me a photo at blogger[at]yayforyarn.com and I will be happy to help!
Hi ! Lovely cardigan 👍 I guess you can also do it with plain old regular hdc ?? Or maybe herringbone hdc... ?? (Ok, might look a bit boring, but... maybe quicker 😅)
Hi Jen. You could try using regular hdc, but the gauge might be slightly different. With the BLO / FLO hdc, the alternating texture keeps the stitch posts closer together. You could try it in a gauge swatch and see how it goes. I hope this helps!
Anyone know where I can find a pattern for a men’s cover up sorta thing. I’m wanting to make a button down loose shirt/sweater and I can’t find anything?
All of the stitch counts and information needed to make all 9 sizes are given in the written pattern. You can view the free version of the written pattern by visiting the first link in the video description. I hope this helps!
Hi. When you are turning the work on each row, what was worked into the back loop on the previous row pops forward, since you're looking at the other side, and vice versa for the stitches worked into the front loop on the previous row (they pop to the back, since you're looking at the other side). When you are working across the current row, you'll be working into the back loop of the stitches that recede to the back, and into the front loop of the stitches that pop forward. I hope this helps!
Hi. Yes, you could try adding a hood if you like, but it would not cover the sides of the head as much as a regular hoodie would. (The sweater is v-neck style, so it isn't really ideal for turning into a hoodie as the edge of the neckline around the top does not come all the way around to the front like a crew neck.). I hope this helps!
I really like this sweater. You are very soothing in your teaching. I am also interested in your crochet hook. Where can I see the hook?? Thank you for sharing
Hi. The front loop / back loop alternating stitch pattern causes some of the half double crochets to recede, and others to pop forward. If you were to use regular half double crochet for this pattern instead of the stitch pattern that the pattern is designed for, the gauge would not match the pattern gauge. 10 regular half double crochets would be wider than 10 half double crochets in the front loop / back loop pattern. I would not recommend trying to make this pattern with regular half double crochet unless you are able to match the pattern gauge exactly. I hope this helps!

Hi when it says repeat row 4 -5 (7 times for large) is it row 4 and 5 equals once. From 4 to 5 again is twice?
Yes, that is correct. You will repeat that pair of rows 7 more times after the first time you worked those rows. So after you have worked Rows 1-5, you will repeat Rows 4-5 seven more times, which will add 14 rows to the 5 rows you already had. Then, the pattern says to repeat Row 4 once more after that. I hope this helps!
gorgeous hook!
Hi, I'm working on a crochet fall video on my crochet channel. Could I use your photo from this video and briefly talk about your video. I would link back to your video so you get traffic and credit. Is that ok? Thanks
Thanks for asking! Yes, you are welcome to use a photo and share a link to my pattern or video. Thank you!
Beautiful design💕
I like to knitting this. Thanks so much.
This will be a definite project for me!
Lovely sweater...definitely on my to do list
Hello dear please let me know how many chains in size small and medium thank you 🙏

(You can mark this stitch (first regular stitch after the chain space) with a stitch marker before working into the chain space if that makes it easier to identify in the fabric for you.) If you have any trouble with this, feel free to send me a photo at blogger[at]yayforyarn.com and I will be happy to help!
i am defo making this
Hi will you tell me how many chail to make for xl size

The pattern is beautiful!!
But I'm confused about placing the stitch. Are we placing BLO-HDC over BLO-HDC?
Or its BLO over FLO?
Wow, very nice!
Hi 👋
thanks for your preif description😍 but I wonder if I can add a hoddy part to it or not before adding the border ?
6 n 7 row start with same back loop
wow beautiful.
Really pretty!
Love it darling😘😘😘😍
Thank you so much dear for sharing this beautiful experience❤️ Lots of love from India❤️❤️❤️
I really like this sweater. You are very soothing in your teaching.
I am also interested in your crochet hook. Where can I see the hook??
Thank you for sharing
Hi Connie! There's a link to where you can get the hook in the video description. I hope this helps!
Hello,im unable to do the Exact foundation chain, can i use normal Foundation chain? Will it affect the outcome?
You could use a regular foundation chain if needed. It will not be as stretchy as the foundation single crochet technique, but it can work.
Thanks dear
what if l change the stitch to simply half double crochets instead of front loop back loop ? would the cardigan still be possible to make ? ty
