I used to be a Dillon defender. I had no issue with him taking the #3. But now, I can't wait for him to retire. He adds nothing to RCR, and doesn't take any responsibility for anything (not to mention his horrible aim at Pocono). All 4 of his wins were pretty stupid, and he had to right-hook a driver to win the 500, but no one really cared because "20 YEARS OF TRYING." I think he will be better behind the scenes than behind the wheel.

    • @despacitosuarez
      @despacitosuarez 2 месяца назад +2

To be fair to Dillon, he was actually very close to Reddick's level as teammates. Reddick was definitely the better driver, but Dillon did end up with the better average finish between the two when Reddick joined RCR in Cup from 2020-2022. Plus, Dillon usually finishes in the top 20 in points, which is where RCR usually is, and has consistently been a playoff contender nearly every single season. 2023 was when he began running terribly, and that’s likely because he got Keith Rodden as his crew chief, who is unironically a terrible crew chief. Dillon went from running pretty good with Justin Alexander in 2022 to terrible with Rodden in 2023

@@despacitosuarez Dillon should be an Xfinity series regular. I think he'd be successful there. In Cup, he's a middling driver at best.
Where RCR is now, it's par for the course. But when he got that car, RCR still contended for championships. His car, the 3, should have run better even then. Imho, he got too comfortable once he got his Cup seat.
A top 20 in this charter era isn't as impressive as when you had more teams attempting to make races. It's almost "playoffs or bust" now. And Dillon has only made the playoffs 5 times in 13 years.
A 4-time winner is a 4-time winner. It's insanely hard to do at this level. He deserves recognition for that. But none of his wins were impressive. The 500 win leaves a sour taste in my mouth, because Almirola was the better car/driver all day, and should have won that race.
To me, Dillon plateaued when he hit Cup. And because granddad gave him the most iconic number the series has seen besides the 43 or the 24, his shortcomings are highlighted that much more.
He deserves a Cup ride. But he doesn't deserve that 3 car.

Aric wrecked himself with a late ill timed block. While he’s not the best he’s not the worst. He won ROY and the championship in Truck and Xfinity. He’s won 4 more Cup races than many others. Austin is not a bust but Ty I could understand your sentiment.

Its very little about Austin personally to dislike. Heck, Chase Elliott is the other side of this coin, taking a familys connection to the top and running it for all its worth. And hes been favorite driver since Jr left.
It really comes down to him running that 3, and 4 wins not being enough for most people. He takes any other number from that stable and 90% of the ire goes away

Your rundown of Austin Dillons wins and backstory to each of them was perfectly told. Kyle nearly matched Dillons career wins total in just 15 races of one season. I didn't see much of Dale Srs career, but in my opinion the 3 shouldn't have been brought back, especially not to be represented by driver with the lack of success that Dillon has had.

For the silver spoon point. It has been said in numerous places Richard Childress made a deal that the 3 can only be driven by a family member or an Earnhardt family member, which is something to consider why Austin got the ride. On the other hand I'm now wondering how Ty would do in the 3 and Austin getting tf out of that ride though

@@need4speed5353 I mean given how far down the cliff RCR is right now, Ty kind of has the right idea, but going by what has been reported, I can't off the top of my head think of anyone else that would be allowed to drive the 3 car. Maybe it's time to renumber the team once again, Richard has kind of painted himself into a corner with the deal highly restricting who can get put in that car, so IMO renumbering it is the best option.
I mean, NASCAR fans are hypocrites. They hate Dillon for hooking Aric into the wall to win the 500 while glorifying Bristol 95 and 99 (even though at the time Dale got booed heavily after 99) though, yet now that finish is held up as one of the greatest, yet AD does the same style of move, wrecks someone to win and gets all the hate. Hypocritical NASCAR fans just piss me off majorly.

I had forgotten all about the Ty/Kevin incident. That's not the reason why Austin never appealed to me. And that moment didn't turn the Dillons "heel" for me. In fact, I consider myself a fan of Ty Dillon to this day.
I don't dislike Austin because he drives the 3. I'm disappointed in RCR for giving him that number. Sure, keep it in the organization because you can't officially "retire" a number in NASCAR, but I'm sure there could have been an agreement between all teams to just... not use that number again. It would have salvaged the legacy of the RCR #3.
I'm not an AD hater. But to me he's wasted potential, and that's why he'll never be a favorite of mine in the Cup series. He proved to have speed and talent, so much so that I even wanted to give him a chance after his granddad goofed up and gave him a historic car number.
But he hasn't done anything, in my opinion, to prove he deserves that 3 car. The 500 win was due to him taking out a competitor. He has... interestingly enough... 3 other points-paying wins.
In 13 years, he's managed the playoffs... 5 times. In a car that, even when branded the 29, was always a competitor for the Cup. He's a bust. And yet, he still drives for his Pop-Pop. Any other driver would have gotten the axe long ago.
Silver-spoon kid or no, Austin doesn't deserve the seat he has. And I'm disappointed how terribly his career has been mismanaged and pushed along by an organization that, honestly, deserves more from that car.
    But that's just my opinion.

Overhated cuz of the number he drives. That’s literally it. Not everybody can be a Larson, Byron or Hamlin. There’s always gonna be “field fillers”, but to say a truck and xfinity champion who’s made the playoffs in cup a handful of times most of which were by points is a bad driver is a joke. There’s far worse drivers in the cup who have seats with half the accolades and success Dillon has had. And let’s not act like he’s on a sought after team with great equipment. Rcr has managed to make Reddick and Busch look like upper mid pack drivers. So yeah a less talented cup driver than those two like Dillon is gonna struggle even more.

Driving the 3 also doesnt help, because if it was changed to the 30, 29, 31 no one would care as much thought i do gotta admit he came into Cup at the worst time with RCR, and im sure that didnt help him either.
If he wasn't RCR's grandson would he have a ride still? No but im sure he'd be a serviceable driver for maybe Spire, JTG, or Kaulig. If he was racing a decade before, he would have dropped back down to xfinity and made a solid career there. Which is still respectable.

I hope this made respect dillon

Dillon was good in Xfinity and Trucks but has been mediocre in Cup. He probably would have switched rides a couple of times by now if his Grandfather didn't own the team. I do feel bad for Ty cause Austin is clearly the favored one. Ty might not be as good as Austin but we probably will never know as he didn't get the same opportunities in Cup.

I don't want to put words in people's mouths, but the impression I've always got about the negativity towards Austin Dillon is two fold. First, him being the grandson of Richard Childress himself, leaving (rightly or wrongly) questions about the legitimacy of his seat at RCR. Second, for older fans at least, for resurrecting the Childress number 3 that was most associated with the late Dale Earnhardt, feeling that he's no match for Dale (which is ironic because Childress withdrew the 3 and renumbered the car 29 when Kevin Harvick replaced Earnhardt in 2001)

Disagree with the statement that the truck series has deteriorated from 2010. There were pay drivers then and there are now, that hasn't changed. There are also exceptional talents today that have gone straight to cup.

Ok first off a fuel mileage run is not controversial or illegitimate, multiple drivers that race tried to do it and he was the only one who could save enough. Second, Almirola dumped himself, watch his rear bumper camera, Austin never moves, Almirola blocked late. Third, Reddick didn't play blocker, Austin took him to school on all 3 of the restarts they had. And yes I'll give ya the fact nascar messed up and didn't call a caution for rain at Daytona but he still had the skill to be the only one not to lose it at the front when it did rain. I'm so tired of people calling anyone's wins illegitimate or "mickey mouse", news flash a win is a win no matter how you get it. The big reason Austin is hated is because he drives the 3 and apparently Dale was the only driver in nascar who's number was never supposed to be brought back, we don't retire numbers in this sport like, never mind the fact Harvick was gonna drive the 3 in the 2004 all star race but I'm sure that would of been ok since the Nascar community has this thing where if you're kyle Petty or Austin Dillon how dare you get a ride with family connections, but if you're Dale Jr, Chase Elliott, Austin Cindric, Ty Gibbs, Justin Labonte, and so many others then it's perfectly fine to do that. At the end of the day Austin is a Truck Series Champion, Xfinity Series Champion, Daytona 500 Winner, Coke 600 Winner, plus won 2 other cup races, that is a career so many drivers would kill for. Mind you Austin has only intentionally wrecked 2 drivers in his cup career, Alex Bowman & Danica Patrick so unless you are one of their fans, the hatred you have for him makes no sense.

I just don't get anyone who thinks anyone else can do better in RCR equipment. All the Busch fans want Busch gone from RCR because RCR cup equipment sucks and KB can't do anything, but when Austin can't do anything, it's because he sucks and not the equipment he's in? Yet people think someone like Austin Hill would somehow do great? Make it make sense. By the way, who in the hell is going to live up to the legacy of the 3? In my opinion yes, I'd rather see Austin in the 29 or 31 just to get the ghost of Dale off his back, but Childress himself made that decision and him and Dale were practically brothers, so what's the big deal? If you look at AD's stats prior to the next gen car, he was competitive. Championship contender? No, but put together decent runs week after week. RCR hasn't been good since the mid 2000s with Harvick, sorry no driver is going to come in and make that team better, we're seeing that now. It's an engineering issue.

I can’t stand him and that’s going back to the dirt late model days where he had the best stuff money could buy. Then RCR trucks and Busch cars have always been top tier in series where it’s easy to out spend with resources compared to others. But to be in that 3 bothers me the most. It may be Richard’s number, but the font of that 3 should have never seen the race track again, especially with a twerp like Austin driving it. And since he’s gotten to cup he’s only gotten to be more of a douche each year.
