- Freiburger and Finnegan found a 440-powered 1971 Chrysler Newport eight-door airport car. This rare machine is missing parts of the floor and is rusted all over. So, of course, that means it's time to take it on a road trip.

This is the car the B-52s were speaking of in ‘Love Shack’… “I’ve got me a Chrysler, it seats about 20…”
I thought the same thing when I saw it but sadly, this one only seats about 16.
Criminally underrated comment.
The only time masks are appropriate.
I just wanna see a full restoration on it. It’s probably too rough for that, but after watching so many restoration and detailing videos, it’s sad to see something rare and unique like that chopped up.
@Scott Redeen that's too bad
@Scott Redeen they have fun with junk thats been rotting for decades that nobody else found any interest in. If you think they're fools, maybe YOU should step up and buy all these cars and save them. Motortrend isn't giving them millions of dollars.
@Scott Redeen Not really. They do keep the good ones.
YES ! True. Better saved than destroyed
@@AUTOHAUSEUROPA If they don't have further plans they usually sell them.
Newports are so beautiful, please restore it to its glory.
The engine and trans are not easily destroyed, that car could be a monster with some choice carb/manifold/ ignition upgrades,
The body rust might be a problem........
However...........
Shame it wasn’t a 440!
Would love to see it properly restored. If it was for sale, I would snatch it in a heartbeat!
I always SMH when I see comments like this. No matter HOW decrepit and hopeless some POS is, some clown will say, "You need to restore it!!" Never mind that it would take a year of 40 hr weeks the owner doesn't have, and cost ten times what the finished car is worth. No shortage of folks eager to spend someone ELSE'S time and money.
@@jeffrykopis5468 why in the world you care so much?! Chill bro for real, its not your problem.
@@jeffrykopis5468 in a world where a madman is threatening to throw nuc's and so much else is going wrong,,, it's just a distraction.
And besides, apostrophe 't' is not in Finnegan's very limited vocabulary
@@patrickwayne3701 I'm unsure what you're referring to about Finnegan, but who needs vocabulary when you work for Motor Trend? 😂
@@jeffrykopis5468 word.
Love seeing these guys back on RUclips.
I LOVE this car! I have always loved old service vehicles. Not a hot rod guy or sports cars. I love old police cars, tow trucks, busses, and THIS car right here!! :)
RoadKill is only RK when it is Finnegan and Freibeuger so good to see the band back together \m/
Though they should make episodes 45 minutes long, enough of the short attention span generation.
The doors need to be numbered with V8 firing order!!!!!
Genius!
Like his shirt is.
Seriously one of the coolest cars I’ve ever seen! I love big body Chryslers and this thing is definitely big!
Had to be a fun and functional boat! I owned and (daily) drove in 1969 440 Magnum factory rep. New Yorker custom (build sheet was under left side of the rear seat FWIW) back in the early 90's and it was a gem of an automobile. It took some getting used to but it was a smoker. My '72 Mach 1 351C and '71 (first year smell block SS) Chevelle SS 350 were fine aaaaaand good...The 440 Chrysler was twice as fun. Dropped the driveshaft and destroyed the rear axle during an epic burnout but replacement locker from a lower geared Police Fury III only made it more fun! Smoked an SVO Mustang from highway speed (literally, tire smoke from around 70mph). He caught up while refueling and examined my ugly forest green monster in disbelief. And for what it's worth I'm an shopping for a decent Mustang SVO. Neat cars and it would fit my small garage.
That "wagon" is cool!
Great episode! I don’t usually laugh hysterically but the dirt track scene was too much. At first my wife came into the den and looked at me to see if I had been drinking, then she saw what I was watching and started laughing too. Perfect!
This should absolutely be a dragster. Rear engine, huge tires, nitrous, the whole deal
Nahh dirt track car. Could you imagine this thing drifting around the corner with the left end of the front bumper on the inside wall and the right rear bumper end against the outside wall.
Multiple engines
@@jayterry8551 yeah maybe. I just wanna drop the whole thing right onto a top-fuel car
Make it the wheelie king!!!!!!!! Full blown dragster
They could challenge Tommy Bowsher's hearse to a drag race.
I remember when roadkill was just a RUclips channel segment, I want to go back, but, can only go forward so I guess I'm getting the motor trend subscription
It would be a blast to ride in the back seat while in full power oversteer.
Hillbilly centrifuge!
Id like to see the controls moved to the rear seat, little more power, and put it back on the dirt track
For some reason, I love that car
epic fun, i used to drive for 9 years daily a 82 cadillac de ville 6 door armbruster stageway coach, stock motor blew a head gasket so i put in a 74 buick apollo 350 2 bbl. it would lift the nose in 1st across a 4 lane intersection no problems, drift corners in snow or dirt and was super controllable, used it for designated driver runs and everyone loved it, had 10 foot straight pipe side exhaust and cragars on a black body with dark blue lowers that i stenciled in over 2000 skulls before transparent over coat, at a car show, i would challenge people to a timed run around the car closing all doors hood and trunk before getting in drivers seat and putting belt on, was a super fun challenge for everyone, there is so much fun you all can have with this car in so many ways, hope to see more of it soon... with decent wheels on it, maybe
So nice to you guys back on RUclips!
THANK YOU MOTORTREND
It doesn't deserve to be restored, but I think it at least deserves to be fixed and tricked out. Fix the door latches, get rid of the rust, put a set of wheels and tires on it, and in full roadkill style, throw a supercharger (or a turbo) on that poor worn out bone stock motor. Cut a massive hole in the hood, like the good old days.
Actually Armburster Stageway was a Chrysler Corporation Factory Approved Coach Builder from 1967 to the end of 1971. Chrysler then switched to Hess and Eisenhardt for 1972 until 1979.
That donut was hilarious 😂😂
I would absolutely love to have one of these
Instead of a "drift taxi," you have a "drift limo." This thing looks like it'll be a blast once it has a new engine, bucket seats, belts, a cage, and whatever power adder you boys go with. 🤙🏾
You would need to be putting in a diesel for that dream. Nothing else would have the torque necessary to break traction.
@@davefroman4700 I think their's enough room for a 12 valve between those towers. That's a good point. 👍🏾
@@TheGeekiestGuy enigma?
Great to see them picking up a Chrysler C-body platform car, those things are couches on highways, and not to mention those B-blocks and the Tourqueflites were indestructible. hope they don't junk the B-block and put some LS junk in it.
Armbruster Stageway made limousines of all kinds for decades and there was nothing sketchy about their work.
Theres your new sequel ! Fast And Freiberger !!!
I miss this show... Hopefully soon back in europe
That's a cool car. I hope that you don't destroy it, but I'm sure that you will.
As soon as I saw it, I knew it was toast!
@@robertlee9395 I'm guessing that it will become a Cummins powered derby car? I'd rather see someone restore it and enjoy it. That doesn't pay the bills though.
In before Whistlin' Diesel.
Looks like Nature took care of that.
@@jeffrykopis5468 Human nature will take care of it.
I went to school at Milton Hershey School, in Hershey PA,it was a private school that you would live at. every group home had this exact wagon for the kids! man I feel old
Right on, love the content! Frieberg/Finnegan are the best!!
I love these guys. They made my childhood true
I have never seen that type of car before (yes I'm quite old enough to realize/see that), = that vehicle should be restored full, overhaul it because it is RARE !!
Armbruster Stageway is still making cars in Arkansas. Limos and Hearses.
Love it!
Very resourceful way of filling the rust. Brilliant !!!
Best thing Motorweek has ever done 👍
I think I'm in love!😊
The "Speed doors" as I'm calling them were especially nice.
Those were the predacacessors of gills
How can you say the coach work is probably sketchy when the car is decades old and it is not sagging in the middle? Don't judge what you don't know.
Because at time's they say stupid things. I agree
@@auteurfiddler8706 Armbruster Stageway was a reputable company that took pride in their work. They should not be comparing newer stretch limos with an 8 door airport limo. This has a strengthened frame and the chance of it being a low quality build is almost nothing.
Are you talking about Junkyard Digs and his long stretch?
@@auteurfiddler8706 I am not sure about Superior, but the Miller Meteor was not a well put together piece. My Eureka, 1963 model never had any rust problems at all.
because a lot of vehicles that got stretched and chopped back then WERE sketchy, he's simply stating that it PROBABLY was done sketchy because the majority were.
I just upgraded my cable package so I could watch Roadkill. Those clowns are totally believable, breakdowns and all.
I would fall in love with all this junk!! This is why I have 4 cars, 5 seadoos, 2x 4 wheelers 7 outboard motors, 5 chain saws ,7 circular saws Yahta Yahta yahta 2 houses..............
And no wife 😂
That is so awesome! Eagle speedway
I've lived near Fort Smith my whole life. I believe that Armbruster Stageway Coach eventually became Federal Coach and Limousine who I worked for about 3 years in the late 1990's. Me and a couple other guys were responsible for putting the wiring inside after the Cadillacs and Lincolns were stretched into either Limos, Hearses, or 6 to 8 Door People Haulers. When you said this was likely put together sketchy, I can confirm, some sketchy stuff is done in these conversions, especially the rear wheel drive type cars. Cadillacs started becoming front wheel drive around the time I worked there and that made the conversion a bit simpler, but still was sketchy.
This remindes me of doing donuts in my old 80's 360 Extended van I had for hauling flooring.
Greetings from Arkansas! I had no idea such majesty was created near my home!😂
Thanks for being you guys.
Been waiting awhile for this good job bros!!!
Old is gold ✨ 💛
What a cool ride
This would be the ultimate race week car.
You wouldn’t even need a trailer!
Put the Crusher engine in it. Get QA1 to send some suspension parts.
This with a blown big block would be right up there with the big block boat that you did for MCM.
Mopar muscle 👍😋😁
@@davidparsons3574 eh I don’t think they’ll go that route. Just because Blasphemi has been a headache for Mike.
I do agree, don't have to be a Hemi,440 power with a good cam and heads and a intercooled blower
I have all the Videos of Roadkill when Roadkill was on RUclips...like every videos from the start even before when Mike and David went to another city and bought a beige 4door mopar or Plymouth and paid the Junkyard guy like 800 to something dollars and put seats door handles breakline holly double pump carb and Nitus in it .....did some burnout
Raced it in a straight race track recorded a o to half mile track record.....
And did an auction on the airport and even sold all the wrenches
Imiss the ACCIDENTAL DIRT TRACK RALLY CAR which was bashed against the wall ..David😅
Mike was like😐yeah it's okay....
I wish them to come back
We miss Roadkill
I enjoyed so much with you guies
All the episodes
I'm blessed that i hve those saved
I watch them during Dinner♥️
This thing should be a Spectator burn out car, put a bunch of race seats in it and take spectators for burn out rips
Awesome!, My 1st Car was a 1970 Newport 383
This would be a great family car if you had 8 kid a a couple dogs to go on road trips!!
I remember this car,, people love it to have the whole family in one car.
Would be nice for a 24 hours of LeMons!
These guys are so funny and this car looks like blast. Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha so funny. good episode.
crazy the company still is doing there thing, making funeral coaches etc, THIS IS A great build
How awesome would it be to send it back to them for a resto!? 😍
When Finnigan said don't crash it I had a nascarlo flash back
The first car in history to require movie steering for actual navigation.
My father traded in his 68 Newport for a 74 New Yorker for my mother. It was lots of fun to fling around, too!
Knew a family from church that had a airport car. They had 8 kids.
What this thing really needs is a flame (Krylon) paint job and a 69 Dodge Daytona rear wing. And a Six-Pack hood scoop.
..this is rare as ..and these guys get it
It's a rare piece, it deserves a makeover if they don't trash it completely.
A blues brothers theme would complete it. What a monster
Cool video. Keep them coming.
Eagle Raceway, nice!
Back in the eighties a local hot dog shop"Frank's A Lot" had on made by Checker out in the parking lot.
Enough room for the Blues Brothers and Sisters…
It’s more rust than car!! 🤣😂😅Definitely the first time I’ve seen one of these. Super cool.
I bet that donut would have been more fun sitting in the back lol
Hahahahaha the best part is the doors opening on the corner and then closing on the straights !!!!! It knew to help Finn
Wow - I had completely forgotten about these vehicles. Yes Virginia... you can have a "muscle car" and a family of eight.
Epic car
That was awesome!!! I gotta find one
Armbruster Stageway airport limo. They're known for making coachbuilt airport limos like that. Other than the Checker Aerobus, which is an actual production airport limo, this Newport is rare.
Something cool in these serious hours✌️
How about installing a blown 426 Hemi in the front and one in the trunk? Add huge 20' long wheelie bars and go racing (leave the body as is but install a few STP and Summit Racing stickers).
If that were the Blues Mobile, the whole band could ride in it. It's a car-pool nightmare.
I would love to fix this thing up and make it nice and road trip it like a super long Mopar camper 🤣
That is so cool. Never heard of this.
You found a doozy this time!!!
The guys need to do an episode with a 50’s car like a Hudson or Studebaker
Companies known for having cars like this included Long Island Airport Limousine Service, Connecticut Airport Limousine Service, Winston Airport Limousine, and others. These included six and eight door sedans and wagons, both aftermarket conversion jobs like this one, and Checker Aerobuses.
I legit want that thing.
The return of Homeless Dave "Its not a limo" Frieburger.
All black, black tint, blower out the hood, and some big meaty tire on the back… this thing could be epic.
I'm so glad everyone in the comments agrees it needs a restoration and kisses
That thing restored a bit would look awesome and is super unique dont see those around any more definitely would like to find one and
Dammit son, I’ve told you, no burnouts in the family car.
You gonna drive someone to the airport in that that thing? Honey!! Your ride is here! C Mon..let's go! Don't wanna be late!
i like airport cars.
I would just clip every single shopping cart in the grocery store parking lot , we use to do that in my brother's 79 Monaco . They would fly 10 feet in the air and not even phase that bumper
Odd car most airport cars were wagons for luggage.....hate to see it get beat on like that, but if ot was mine I would probably end up making it a party bus version of the blues mobile or something lol!
That thing did look pretty sweet drifting on that dirt track ....This needs to be a new class of nascar.
I remember seeing an old photo of this Chrysler Newport stretched airport sedan at John Wayne airport
Would love to see this cars in hotrod power tour would be a first for them lol
I just found one of these 16seat airport cars in the junkyard last week. Out of a Toronado of all things. I guess that makes sense, really.
Blues bros. would be proud
Fargo, ND is a great city!!!
