Nothing should happen to single parents etc. Most likely these are not choices/ are difficult choices to make. The point relating to the adoption of children is that it is the state's responsibility to ensure the best outcome in life for those children - and that includes providing them with both a mother and a father. Children need maternal and paternal companionship in order to fully develop.

The no campaign just does not hold any ground in my opinion. Who is anybody to say that marriage is only for man and woman. To say that two men or two women can not raise a child is just ludicrous.

    • @danielmurray04
      @danielmurray04 9 лет назад +2

Jamie Baxter to say that two straight men should have the right to marry is not ridiculous though? or to see that same sex and opposite sex life unions are different... that is ridiculous... will ye grow up, drop the slogans and rhetoric and look at what is actually going on. Marriage was designed around men, women and raising children... that is not homophobic... recognition of the importance of the biological family, is now illegal... the yes campaign made no fact base arguments and just lies and use emotive arguments and bullying.
The no side was all over the place, but was fact based and far far more informed than the no campaign.

    • @cymyriefrendesie1173
      @cymyriefrendesie1173 9 лет назад +5

+Daniel Murray You can say biologically different when terms of aspects but think the outside of the box. Also why comparing 'two straight men' are they willing to have a relation despite of their own sexuality? Who would think about marrying a man who doesn't affected by other person? I also think that being in aware of providing a needs of a child is what the pattern flow.
The needs of respect of being who they are have to be justified so long ago; people just didn't admit the fact, you can't marry a woman when his partner got all over her traits, you get the picture.
The no campaign does have a bigot statement, yes campaign has made their clearing and of course an equality for their rights.

Caesar Santizo In the medium to long term i think he would have to concede there was little effect on his everyday life or society. I mean he was already willing to concede civil unions so the only difference were certain rights but the big one was about child rearing and that was already a done deal anyway. The other one i'm guessing is gay couples being able to officially use the word. So he was basically fighting about a word and the social status of gay couples.

Most homosexual couples don't want children. And the ones that do have to fight to give their child the best life possible or risk getting them taken away. Homosexual couples embrace a child's individuality because they themselves are outcasts.
Heterosexual couples are better? When more than half end in a breakup or divorce that leaves one parent with the child, having them forced to endure 18 years of financial instability before having their children live with them until they're 30?

I hate the whole “1 mother 1 father” crap, it’s not representative of modern society, many people grow up in single parent households and they’re fine, voting “no” to same sex marriage/preventing them from adopting or fostering children is closing the door on thousands of kids who need a home, if two parents are loving and want the best for the child, I don’t see how having two dads or two mums could hurt! Better than having nobody at all

A child having a mum and dad does not always make for the most ideal family unit. having 2 mums or 2 dads can be just as fulfilling to a child's needs. There are all kinds of family units - including single parent and child, grandparent and child. The most important thing to provide for the child is LOVE, protection and security. A mother and father family can also be bad for a child if there is physical, sexual and/or emotional abuse. If the 'No' campaign REALLY cares about the child, it should vote 'Yes' to protect ALL children, even the ones that same-sex couple's have, through marriage.

  • @finitekosmos

I always find it hilarious that the No campaign always focuses on children. Forgetting that not every married couple has children nor can every couple can have children. "I believe every child has a right to a mother and father" its a sentiment and that's about all we can say about that statement. In a country that forcibly took children from unwed mothers placed them into abusive pastoral care organisations and sent them off to other people in the US and Australia amongst other countries without any notice given to the birth parent(s) about what happened to the child. The concern for children exhibited and leveraged by the church has come about 40 years too late and is misguided in the extreme as scientific study has revealed that stability in the parent/child relationship is more critical than the sex or gender of the parent.

I'm a straight dude who is in support of a YES vote. I don't think I get to decide how another person lives their life, so long as they are living a kind, nonviolent life. Given this viewpoint, I can stand up straight and say, "You don't get to decide how I live my kind, nonviolent life either." I get to say this because I am not being a hypocrite telling others what they can do, while expecting them not to tell me what I can. I wonder how this hypocrisy of some of my fellow straight people can be pointed out in the clearest terms? Perhaps there should be a parallel vote on straight marriage, and the LGBTQI... community will probably vote YES on that, given how kind they are. That can then be given proper media attention, and advertised, so that the bigots among straight people can see how others are willing to be kind to them. I'm just spitballing for effective strategy to communicate the message folks. (I get it. This vote is from 6 years ago. Doesn't matter - there's always bigots who need convincing.)

Every time someone talks about two same-sex parents not being able to raise their kid properly I get so angry. Not even for myself, and my community, but for all of the single parents out there who's spouse has died or isn't in the picture. Also, every child of a same-sex couple will be lived, because they are wanted. The amount of " accidents" that happen, leaving couples pregnant unprepared for parenthood, is a bigger threat to the lives of children than same-sex marriage is. I'm so glad that when I am older I will be able to marry someone and be happy in that relationship. The only reason a child might have trouble as the child of a same-sex couple is if that kid got bullied for it, and that is not the fault of the couple, that is the fault of the bigots and people in the world are refusing to understand.

Some people make me really sad. People who don't want gays to Marry sicken me. And all the arguments against hay marriage are rubbish.
Argument 1: A baby deserves a mum and a dad.
Who says every gay couple are going to have a baby? And if they do, the baby will have both motherly and fatherly models. People like grandparents, aunts uncles and even teachers. Anyway, you don't know what your missing out on of you never had it in the first place.
    Argument 2: Its unnatrual.
Like hair dye? Or air conditioners? Or printers? They are all unnatural but we don't bat an eyelash at them. Anyway, its not. It's been around for thousands of years. Were just only not really learning about it. Is just love, and love is very natural.
Argument 3: God never wanted it.
Then why did he make it part of our world? Legalise it in some countries and let gays live happy lives?
Any other arguments? Come at me, I have counters to them all.

I believe father and mother teach children different too. We can feel it. Sometimes we can't put it in words because most of the upbringing memories took place in the path. And we can not always recall things as they just happened yesterday. Also some of us are not articulate, well prepared enough to explain it in the moment being confronted by this question "what things that your father can teach you but your mother cant?" Give the no compaign guy a day or two. I think when he settles down a little, he will come up with a decent answer.

I don’t know why I’ve recently come back to this, Riyadh was a RUclipsr I used to watch back in the day and I stumbled on this little chestnut!
I distinctly remember when these debates were happening in the UK and one of the prevailing arguments against same sex marriage was this concept that marriage is about procreation, if you can’t procreate you shouldn’t be married. The reason why this statement stuck in my mind all these years is quite simple. At the time of these debates my sister had suffered the unparalleled trauma of a miscarriage. It occurred to me that if these statements that people kept so casually vociferating were to be believed, then my sister no longer had the right to be married. Luckily, then as now, marriage isn’t about procreation, it’s about commitment and legal protection. The irony is both men wanted to change the definition of marriage, just in different ways.

The Iona institute is a hardline catholic organisation on the extreme right on all social issues, to not explain what these people represent gives a false picture. The no campaign painted a picture of people being 'bullied' when in actual fact they were the bullies in the campaign.

Here is what the against guy’s argument is essentially saying (whether he realizes it or not): his argument isn’t against same-sex marriage, it’s against same-sex adoption. So his so called no vote can’t exist; because it’s a ‘NO’ to a question that’s not being asked. So his particular argument has no actual “NO” to gravitate to, leaving him with only one conclusion: a yes vote.

What does Conroy know about same sex marriage and children? It's not like he was brought up by two people of the same sex. I'm sure many people who were brought up that way would be very offended by him.

The whole "Children deserve a mother and a father" argument is redundant in this context. There was a bill passed a month or two ago saying that same sex couples can adopt kids. This is a vote for equal marriage rights and the fact that they have to turn to an argument that makes no sense in that context really says everything.

marriage is what a couple make of it. marriage (called by other names but essentially the same) has existed throughout history but the way society sees it, or recognises it changes. but essentially the current marriage isn't about children its about two people standing up and saying this is the person I love and want to spend the rest of my life with. so glad that same sex marriage is spreading, finally people are recognising that gay or straight relationships are essentially the same.

The no guy was arguing that civil unions and marriage are the same thing and you get the same rights, but if you're doing that, what's the problem with just going all the way and allowing same sex marriage? If there's no difference, where's the issue with granting a right that so many people desperately want?

To the guy in this video who is against:
If every child has a right to a mother and a father and you wish to bring this up during a MARRIAGE debate then you just condemned childless marriages since you automatically linked children with marriage which has no merit in a same-sex marriage debate. If you want to talk adoption or family planning, then you can bring that up outside of the marriage equality debate. But within this different debate, you would also have to address children in divorced heterosexual marriages, single people adopting and in vitro fertilization.
Despite all of this, Ireland saw right past all of your bull. CONGRATS IRELAND😘❤️🏳️‍🌈

the guy voting no has some really flawed logic. For instance when he talks about children and how if gay people are allowed to marry then they will want to adopted children. Firstly what is going to happen if they are allowed to adobt children? That they are going to use their militant gay ways to try and force the kid to become gay? Chances are they are going to be better suited in a home with two moms and two dad, rather than a broken home where they are beaten or homeless and hungry living on the streets. Secondly, not every straight couple who gets married has kids. Also what if an elderly couple gets married, do you think they will be able to have children? So no not all gay couples will want children. Some will, some wont.

Can we squeeze in the "loving" part into parenting? It's not enough to just have parents, mom and dad, same sex parents, foster parents, or single parent, it's absolutely crucial and critical that the parent/parents are loving, caring, and attentive. Case in point: it's better to have loving, caring foster parents than to be with abusive (physically, mentally) biological parents. Unsurprisingly, love matters again, and it's love that's the essence of parenting (not simply having two different anatomical private part). The gay guy got it right that children of same sex family deserve equal protection. A family unit of just 2 people without kids also deserve equal respect and protection.
Also, this whole idea of gender role that a man is a certain way and a woman is a certain way is antiquated! It is this same idea that ridicule gentle and sensitive men, while mocking aggressive and confident women. Obviously, some straight people shatter the typical gender role/expectation, and even more so gay people completely destroys it. What does it mean to be a "woman"? or "man"? Being caring, gentle, sensitive, aggressive, tough, confident, stoic? ANY person, male or female, can assume and be any of these traits. Let me throw in there too one of the top (if not the top) runway model expert with high heels is a black man!
At the end of day, voting NO means direct harm to loving gay couples while voting YES means direct harm to........actually, I can't think of any, except for maybe the mental anguish of homophobic bigots who can't see their gay neighbors oppressed?

If marriage happens in church I think that church should decide if they would allow it.
Like so many other business decide what they allow inside their factories, offices etc.
I would support marriage for all people BUT it should not force other people to change their lives because of that change.
If I owned coffee shop gays would be welcome but if I owned a church and followed bible they would not be as simple as that.
Gay and straight marriages should be at equal standing but gays should know that bible which is the highest authority in churches does not allow being gay. So in law marriages would be equal but church ceremony would not be available for gays.
BTW. I am agnostic and I would want to gays be able to marry in church but bible is the obstacle in this and if churches are not owned by government they should be free to decide if gay marriage in their church is ok.
P.S. I could not even watch video to the end as I found all this shit so aggrevating
