I committed the sin of gossiping when I was around 11 years old, it was terrible, I lost a good friend, but God used that to show me that I too am the wretch the song refers to (I cried for a long time) and that I need to repent of my sin and put my faith in Him to be saved 💛
Back in my drinking days, I knew this guy who would tell on himself just to tell on you he once told the boss that I had some beer during lunch and he asked how he knew so he told him he knew because he was drinking with me lol.
Really? Thats your confession and sin to the Lord of Hosts? while there are men in prison who regret the horrific sins they committed and cry out for forgiveness and salvation.... but the world would rather keep THEM in bonds/chains for ever because of THEIR sins but not your own!!!!
Brother Todd, this was literally the topic of my Sunday School class this past week. It is truly a sin that goes “unnoticed” in the Christian community.
For lack of wood a fire goes out. Without gossip, a quarrel dies down. Proverbs 26: 20 WEB This is my gossip antidote. Good medicine from the Word! Thanks & Blessings! 😊🙏📖
I've gossiped and slandered people , and I asked for God's forgiveness and mercy, and to comform me to Christlikeness. I no longer gossip or slander as I'm being transformed in Holiness and Christlikeness by the power of the Holy Spirit and by the power of God's word. Thank You Lord
One reason I have comparatively little desire to get socially involved in church life any more, is that it seems like a significant number of churches are flat-out ran by gossips. The church where I've been for over two years now doesn't seem to have nearly such a problem, and that's a good thing.
I’m going to be “down” on my own gender: too many churches are run by domineering women who are full of pride (arrogance), gossip and envy. Some are in leadership but have never demonstrated humility or genuine love for Jesus or others! Churches that are run by such huge egos (whether they be women or men) eventually fall apart because of the hypocrisy.
Thank you for this timely and gentle rebuke of this common sin. Lord Jesus, by Your Holy Spirit may we keep Your commands and be master over our tongues🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

This is probably the best video I’ve seen on the subject. You covered a tremendous amount of ground - all based in scripture - in a short amount of time. Thank you very much for this valuable resource.
You are so right about gossip. It's very difficult sometimes to point it out to friends or family. Impossible to not offend. My husband and I have been working on it, but it seems that every time we turn around, someone gossips to us. Makes us nuts!😮
Once I heard someone say that listening is just as much gossip as speaking. Her suggestion when someone is gossiping to you was to say "please stop, I shouldn't hear this." I use it a lot. It always works, although sometimes people respect you and sometimes they yell at you lol. hope this helps.
A friend of mine once said, “I was a young christian and I didn’t know anything. Then one day I got married and then I knew EVERYTHING!” (…everything he didn’t want to know!).
I struggled with this in my retail job so some days I barley would say anything when it was slow at work once the Holy Spirit convicted me of this I still struggle with this but not as much thank the Lord.
Ugh yes. I would just have to walk away and find something else to do. Unless you are completely alone at work, someone will come up and start gossiping. Something some of us indeed have to fight and put our minds on scripture.
People in the church misunderstand the meaning of this word all the time, accusing others of "gossip", because many don't want to hear anything negative, even if it is the truth, or they are trying to control others by shutting them up. Look up the legal definition of libel, and slander. It is NOT gossip if it is the truth.
I remember the first time I saw the analogy of the woman who goes to the roof top of a building and tears open a feather pillow and the wind carries the feathers far and wide. She can try and collect the feathers but she'll never get them all back. Gossip is like that. Once it goes out you are no longer in control, it spreads, changes, is added to and can never be undone. I still think of that image of the feathers on the wind.
If we always waited for an actual verdict in a court in these times, especially in the political arena, we would likely STILL not know the truth. We know people by their fruit. We need to pray for discernment. I’m not saying we should gossip, but we do make our own judgments based on discernment and biblical guidelines.Having said all that, your rules are good where they can be applied.
Also, allegations especially against Christians should be brought to light. Too much abuse of all kinds allowed in the church that need to go to court.
I have a problem with not discussing issues in church. The church itself removed the person. He didnt commit a crime legally so there is no adjudication. We can believe the pastors who removed them and the person who said they were abused.
IMHO, one of your best videos. Thanks for discussing or not discussing it. That said, one thing you said was "hearing" gossip was wrong. I would argue entertaning gossip is wrong. You can't control what you hear but you can control how you respond to that.
I agree with Todd that a person accused is not automatically a guilty person. Many fall into this trap of when a pastor is exposed publicly of certain allegations, our tendency is to believe them right off the start. After all, who would lie about that? Truth be told, many. Some for financial gain, some for notoriety, and some for revenge. Unless the accused admits to the allegations, we all need to keep silent and wait for that scenario to play out.
So true and it’s a waste of time too, only bored people with itching ears tend to gossip and over dramatise events and people. Dealing with boredom is a big issue , now with all conspiracy theorists increasing. Another reason for gossip is because we have to validate the truth. Many people are speaking lies and so we do a verification by asking someone else. I am not sure if that is gossip.
Actually people need to Gossip more. Gossip is a word an oligarch uses to describe unauthorized chatter between his subjects. The problem is NOT enough gossiping.
Wow! Todd, this is so relevant. Our church just preached on this very thing. We've been going through the Ten Commandments, and today we covered the 9th Commandmet - about not lying or giving false witness. And part of that includes gossip. This is a SERIOUS sin! Our church has been greatly hurt by gossip. You see, not quite two years ago a couple of brothers from church were gossiping and spreading viscous rumors about our pastor. This sadly caused a DEEP church split with quite a few leaving. Anyways, I don't know whats what's happened to the original instigators. But I am TRYING to forgive them, although it's so VERY hard! Nevertheless, I do pray for them regularly. 😪🙏😢
l never gossip, gossip is that fact that you hear something that compromises the integrity of a fellow Christian and you tell as many people as you can. when l hear such things,l pray for that person and if l have to say anything, l tell only my pastor😊
I’m familiar with the over charging critiques of the unmentioned event, but I know a certain man did the research on the cost of such things, by comparison, and that was stellar. Thank you, S. Kozar, ooops, and for this podcast, Mr. Mr. Mr. Friel!!!
What I find so discouraging is all the “brothers” that tell you why so and so are false prophets or generally have to tell you why you should shun them and their heresy just to get clicks all the while destroying their reputations and ministries.Every time I see a thumbnail like this I am saddened and think about who they might have reached had they not ruined their credibility. Not only the party they are speaking about but also the person speaking…how many people they may have deterred from following Christ because they are “warning” everyone about that man of God!
Way too many Christians tolerate way too many sins because we think Jesus said be nice all the time and forgive instead of having righteous anger. Might i refresh your memory of what Jesus said in front of Pilot and the Jews, My kingdom,” said Jesus, “doesn't consist of what you see around you. If it did, my followers would fight so that I wouldn't be handed over to the Jews." Vengence is God's but our society is ours and we must not allow for sin to be tolerated because being a Christians means being kind and only kind.
I have actually seriously considered this as an upcoming sermon. Maybe I should just take notes on this video and hand-out the notes. Can’t put it much better than this.
Everything Todd is true. But what about gossip that's done from the pulpits? Some Evangelical leaders are making it their entire ministries to slate Charismatic ministers by name. Thousands of people listen to what they say and then brand the Charismatics without listening to their perspective. Is this not also gossip? It maligns other believers after all.
God once dealt with me on this by bringing this question into my mind. “ Would you say the same thing with the same tone of voice if that was your son.” Ouch! I’d never thot like that before. It really knocked me back a couple “steps.” So, when I speak of another brother or sister, I put my son’s head on their shoulders. Wish I could say I’ve rigorously obeyed that rule…but alas, been negligent here and there. But, I am miles from where I once w as walking. Try it.
I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to be first, will not welcome us. 10 So when I come, I will call attention to what he is doing, spreading malicious nonsense about us. Not satisfied with that, he even refuses to welcome other believers. He also stops those who want to do so and puts them out of the church. 3rd John…. Believers need to be warned of wolves
I have seen gossip absolutely ravage churches. It's terrible. I'm tired of Christians brushing "socially acceptable" sins under the rug. It is so wearying.

I have seen this post planted on many different Christian YT channels for awhile now. All with gracious and helpful replies, but it continues to pop up.
If this is aimed at podcasters who deal with false teachers and have shown what is already publicly known because the church has made videos and put them on THEIR website for anyone to look at then I call foul on this. If the church with the scandal has already made some information public and others are just speaking about, showing what's been said publicly without adding to it or speculating beyond that then that is not gossip. If it's made public that there has been allegations and someone is just repeating what's already been said then that's not gossip.
The vast majority of Christians do this without conscience. It’s why I would never confess my sins to another professing believer, because no matter how “mild” the sin, it would be all over the place in time. I know to never say anything at work even though they cry that everything is confidential, but the group that you would EXPECT to be above reproach on this matter is far from it.
Ever been handed a large check by church leaders to help with your financial hardship--that you didn't know you had? Talk about awkward and embarrassing. People often spread gossip under the guise of being helpful and caring. Often it's done for selfish reasons. Either way, all confusion and hardship would be avoided if people just went to the source. go talk to the person you are talking about. If someone talks about someone to you in the guys of helping them, send them away. Go talk to that person yourself. No one seems to get this!
34Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. 36So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. 37I know that you are Abraham’s descendants. Yet you are looking for a way to kill me, because you have no room for my word. 38I am telling you what I have seen in the Father’s presence, and you are doing what you have heard from your father. b ” 39“Abraham is our father,” they answered. “If you were Abraham’s children,” said Jesus, “then you would c do what Abraham did. 40As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things. 41You are doing the works of your own father.” “We are not illegitimate children,” they protested. “The only Father we have is God himself.” 42Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me. 43Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. 44You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! 46Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? 47Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”
All of this is not possible. All of us would have to become Monks and live in a monastery far, far, from any civilization. You should not repeat any rumor unless you are trying to find the truth. Unless you are trying to help somebody. Almost none of these ever are adjudicated in a court of law. There is always some evidence, some clue, some confirmation of the rumors. Spreading rumors is bad because it precludes repentance. It makes it almost impossible for someone to say I am sorry.
I don't read stories or watch gossipy TV programs. There are more important things to dwell on. If you don't know the facts, keep quiet. I'm retired now but for decades I worked in the medical field where rules are strict. Even if it's a family member you couldn't share info without their permission. If I had permission, I would quote the person. "X" says she's...and says her doctor told her... It made it clear that the info came from the other person. Another thing that makes you think is when you yourself are in counseling. Would you want your situation shared without your permission? Be careful what you say and to whom you say it. And don't believe everything you hear .
Sorry I'm not sure if i'm understanding. So what do we do? We stay completely quiet on certain things even when we get the facts on both sides of the story?
Not exactly. I think we can talk about it if it is helpful, but not if it is slanderous. And I think it is very important to go to the person directly first. In my experience, that would save a lot of confusion and hard feelings.
To me the most dangerous sin is not doing the will of our Father because then Jesus will not recognize us in heaven and we will not enter Matthew 7:21 Although yes I am guilty of gossip it makes me feel good but feeling good is not always a good sign and it is not the will of our Father. I love you all out of the abundance Jesus gave.✊🏻💚🕊️

Yes, indeed. Very true.
You want to know what sin goes undisciplined by modern church? Divorce
Nicotene stained fingers??? What does this mean? Did I hear him right?
I can’t tell which one was Todd.
He says to just hear gossip is sin but I disagree. God hears gossip from people every day and he is not sinning.
38I am telling you what I have seen in the Father’s presence, and you are doing what you have heard from your father. b ”
39“Abraham is our father,” they answered.
“If you were Abraham’s children,” said Jesus, “then you would c do what Abraham did. 40As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things. 41You are doing the works of your own father.”
“We are not illegitimate children,” they protested. “The only Father we have is God himself.”
42Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God.
Meddling is Murder !!!
@@deannemiller891 Oh I see yea that makes sense actually. Thanks for the reply.
@QuietlyContemplating There's some things in life where you have to speak up. Staying quiet can do you or others more harm than good.
Great job! Are you planting a “rumor weed”? How are you using your words? Tongue? Bible has plenty to say on this 😏
Thank you for things to practice.
To me the most dangerous sin is not doing the will of our Father because then Jesus will not recognize us in heaven and we will not enter Matthew 7:21
Although yes I am guilty of gossip it makes me feel good but feeling good is not always a good sign and it is not the will of our Father. I love you all out of the abundance Jesus gave.✊🏻💚🕊️
Shout out to Steve Brown...etc.
Discovered your channel just a few days ago..appreciate this sharing
Yet being a friend of Bill Johnson is reason for me to make it my last viewing of your channel..Bethel church is not worthy to be called a christian church.

So what about CBN News?
You can tell they are lying because their lips are moving
So funny… but (convictingly) true!
You should send this message to Jordan Riley. He spreads slander and vitriol on almost all his videos.
That end made me lol
How many Times should I firgive my brother 77 times?
If you can't share it, why talk about it?
Todd I thought you were going to talking about some church leaders in scandal, all you did was talk about me.
