There's really no great revolution. This group of Japanese players just happen to be really good. They merely change minor tactics. The Japanese are just as elite as other elite teams.
Their real ONE shortcoming is their average height: when it's elites vs elites, the Japanese don't have enough tall players to consistent oppose the really tall & big players most other European and the Brazilians have.
If you magically added 3 inches to the average height of the Japanese, without doing any thing else in terms of skills, they would readily win against most other teams, most of the time. That's how solid the skills of the Japanese are.
      They also are disciplined, too.
Both Japanese men and women are more disciplined than most other teams, so even while they're much shorter than the Europeans, on a par, both Japanese men and women's teams are doing very well.
Winning straight against 1, 2, or 3 bigger & taller teams, very doable. But winning against 3, 4, and 5 bigger & taller teams consistent enough to win the tournament, the Japanese shorter and smaller statures are consistently reflected.
Unlike soccer where 5'7" Messi could go around 6'5" guys with ease --- or in gymnastics or swimming, etc. where size and heights don't have as much of an impact ---- in Volleyball, height and size play outsized roles.

This is Japan’s best game by far after 2019 WCF. A total team effort.
Ishikawa, played out his heart there. Made those crucial points in the 5th. Such a great leader to a young team. Deserved that player of the game. Sekita, who made everything possible for his spikers. His digging has improved a lot over the years. Yamamoto, the most underrated player on court who received the least recognition. Him, Sekita and Ishikawa are the main core of this japanese team. Miyaura, what a game for him. Never thought he would come out that big for Japan. That young boy showed us what he is capable of. Ran is following Ishikawa’s footsteps. He is becoming an all rounder. He has improved a lot in the span of 1yr. Onodera’s defense and offense were working well in the last 2 games. The man worked hard to defend the Brazilian attackers. Yamauchi is the one that was ineffective yesterday. He struggled a lot. Lastly, coach Blain. For taking a risk on putting Miyaura over Nishida in a big game like this. I never expected such changes but Miyaura showcased his talent and skills. Glad to see that Japan isn’t about Yuki Ishikawa anymore. Finally, he got some help. And rooting for them to win this VNL from Canada.

Japan won because of their great teamwork. Yuki, Kento, Ran, Sekita and Tomo showcased their skill. I'm so proud of them. From offense to defense, they've improved a lot. Kudos to Brazil too, they did great. They're tall and that give them advantage in terms of blocking. They got a good setter too. I honestly had no idea of who'd win on fifth set. Best match so far. Felt like a championship game.

Putting Kento Miyaura over Yuji Nishida shook Brasil's game plan. Thinking that they will assert mastery over Nishida's lightning-fast spikes with their monstrous blocks, Coach Blain wittingly inserted Miyaura on the opposite, taking a huge risk in lieu of their opponents' unfamiliarity of him. And it did pay off. Miyaura contributed crucial points during the decider. As expected, the rest of the team led by Ishikawa, Sekita, Takahashi, Onodera, and Yamamoto delivered for Ryujin Nippon to seal their first-ever victory over the mighty Brazilian squad. Ganbatte!!! 🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵

This will go down as one of my favourite matches of all time! So proud of Japan and their growth as a team. I’ve watched Japan play for a few years now. They’ve work hard on improving all aspects of their game that are lacking in the past. They are no longer just a defensive team, their middles are going stronger, their attacks are sharper, faster and able to work those tall blocks much better, and their sets are so on point! Their substitute players are just as great as their main players - Miyaura, Kentaro, Fukatsu and get their share of well deserved court time. You can see the change in their mentality too - they are no longer intimidated by big teams. They went into the game with much confidence and don’t get demoralised when they get blocked or attacked. They just keep going. Coach did great too - doesn’t hesitate to change players when its not working for the game. Their players are so humble and respectful. What’s not to love ❤️

I can't recall how many times i switched off my phone while watching this game 😂 Really an epic game for both teams and Today japan won against brazil for the first time ...this is what i have been looking for. As last year i have been disappointed with team japan going through a lot and lost at the end of 5 sets but today they played a tactical game against brazil knowing that brazil are tall and good at blocking but japan with Yuki my captain worked very hard to use every chance whenever they spike and that's was a big difference ...! Honestly i appreciate both teams they played very well but ryujin nippon today wrote an history for beating brazil since1890😅😅😂
