Yep thats amazing! A 20year old saw & still good!! i used an 044 ,an estate saw around 20years ago too! Very popular & well respected back in the day!,Personally I've always been a husky fan,& i'm still running a 22year old 357xp- as i call the old stuff nuts & bolts saws! Will the new auto tunes/m tronics be as good?&last the time? Good to hear anybodys views!👍
I bought two 044s in the 1990s and used them hard logging in Montana. I still have both and they both start and run as they should. Neither saw was ever rebuilt or in a saw shop for repairs. The 044 is a great saw. I'm so disappointed with my new 500i.
Had one for 18 months downunder cutting hardwood eucalypts for commercial firewood production. Only 1 complaint. We have a new 880 & 661c for slightly larger logs but the 500i is the favourite for falling dead stags due to being lighter. The complaint? We run 404 chain on the 880 & 661c. Bought a 100 ft roll of 404 chain from Stihl & the make & break tools to make our own chains. The 500i only runs 3/8th chain, you can’t buy a drive sprocket for the 500i to run 404 chain on it. 🙄😡👎 Stihl DONT make such a drive sprocket for the 500i. How stupid is that? It means we now have to buy another 100ft roll of 3/8th chain and make up all the chains for the 500i, instead of just running 404 chain on all 3 saws for simplicity / interoperability between all 3 saws for bar & chains. Someone needs to kick the Stihl engineers up the ass with a size 12 steel capped boot until their noses bleed! Been waiting 18 months & still cannot buy a 404 drive sprocket for the 500i from Stihl. Useless twats couldn’t organise a p!soup in a brewery. 🙄
I'm a husky guy but excited about the Stihl. THOSE STUPID FUEL AND OIL CAPS UGH!!!! I believe this is a total win; not For Stihl and a lose for Husky; but instead a total win for the end user! Great review great thoughts cheers mates!
What chain on the stihl 500i saw? Have you tried the x cut chain from HVA? Both .325 and 3/8 x cut chain are in my opinion much better than the chains from stihl, but this is my opinion.
Yes well done! Keep with the Husky!, i have used the 500i & yes it is an awsome saw in big hardwoods too- but it hasnt changed my mind-Huskys are the best-ergonomics ,power & smoothness in my opinion.
I've recently purchased a 500i and, while it does cut like a beast, I have a lot of trouble re-starting the saw after I've let it sit a few minutes after hard use. It will fire and die, fire and die, fire and die, and eventually start after ten pulls on the starter rope. I can't use something that won't start every time, like my old 044s. Any thoughts??
Nothing wrong with the caps on the Stihls 🙄 Sure they had issues with first versions back in the day but of course a bloke in a “Husky” helmet couldn’t possibly get them to work🤣 Just don’t overfill the tank and you will have no issues. (Can’t compress liquid) The MS 500i doesn’t share any parts with the TS 500i. It is a brand new engine but it had loads of R&D with years of “real world” testing before release. Can’t wait for more saws to follow suit!
In Portugal the 572xp costs 760 euros and ms500i costs 1400 euros, I've worked with both, the difference in cutting is less than two seconds per cut. I will never give 640 euros for less than two seconds, it's completely absurd
Nice review maybe you could dump the techno pop tunes I'm American so I had to listen hard to understand the Brit lingo haha wonder how it's gonna hold up over two years or so
I appreciate your review, but you really didn’t cover much about the saw other than the pick up and the fuel caps. But I get the idea you guys really liked the saw all in all...

poor Salotto !! Stihl is still privately owned by the Stihl family. You can’t show proof of what you are saying because it is false. No I’m a Stihl Gold Tech for over 10 years. Also I don’t play chess. Have a nice day champ👌
poor Salotto !! Oh and here’s my proof; en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stihl Husqvarna on the other hand or Husqvarna Group / Husqvarna AB has a majority investor owner called Investor AB which you can find here en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Investor_AB Checkmate?? 🤫
Nice hearing from true pros like yourselves.👍
My 044 has the classic caps that screw in... no leaks or issues around 20 years later. I’m excited to get the 500i though. 👍👌

It would be great for firewood. Even better with a 20 inch bar

Love love Stihl ms 500i👍
Ms500i and 572husqvarna???Tnx...
I think it's neat. But, for half the price I bought a 572 that is one second slower than the 500 in a 24 inch bar.

pricey yer but when carbs play up, its not cheap
give me a 500 in a carbon fiber suit
Yeah - STIHL! - get decent non-leaking fuel caps on your saws for goodness sake! - it’s not 1960’s anymore..! 😄👍
The caps on the cheaper saws are actually better than the ones on the pro saws, lmao
I want to see it cut hard wood with a 28 inch bar

You really enjoy patting that saw, don't you? 🤣
We loved patting the 500i LOL
Why is it that European loggers try to make the butt ends of logs smaller? I don't understand.
we have to dress them as sawmill won't take them...
Probably a max butt diameter as they’re too big to roll through a debarker. That, and their tiny bars can’t do the job!😃
Great but to expensive I think it’s only for pro working and only I prefer an echo cs 590 or 7310sx and still this is pro saw I think 60cc’s is enough
Good hands on review! I had to listen closely to understand ;-) - I am not a native English speaker :-D
Cool video but the music sucks ... use the natural chainsaw noise would be way better
