This provides an art drawing supplies review of the Sakura pigma micron drawing pens, brush tip pens, and graphic pens that I use for my pen and ink drawings. I also compare Sakura pens with other brands, such as Copic multiliner, Faber-Castell Pitt artist pens, Prismacolor premier drawing pens
Hope y'all know that Sakura Micron Pigmas CAN be refilled - no need to toss & replace if the nib is still OK . . . look for the instructions on You Tube - I tried it & it works GREAT!
Bob Pisko really!??? Thanks, gotta check that out
I tried a couple that were 10+ years old. Seems to work! :-)
Oh really, where can I buy these refills for the Sakura micron pens?
Can you refill a micron br?
This was one of the most informative videos about these pens! thank you for doing such a good job!! you got a new subscriber :)
duchy100 thank you...welcome on board
Dude! Thank you so much for sharing your self & your art. You make the world a better place. Truly. ❤🎉
I only use the 005 because it was the only pen I had. Also because Berserk inspired me to draw and keep drawing. Miura's panels are too damn detailed. Recreating one as faithfully as possible took me a month
I imagine that's gotta be hard with the 005. Shit's microscopic
@@SwegDawgstry a 003 they make em now
Very talented young man and a great teacher.
Thanks much
As a beginner in ink pen drawing , this video was very informative. Thanks!
Just got back into doing ink drawing after 27 yrs I picked up what I thought would be good pens. Now I'm glad I did. I had a 50/50 shot. For a pad I purchased one with mixed media paper. Looks like I should have gotten a Bristol pad after watching RUclips.
Thanks for sharing.
🤎Wow, I was really curious. Debating about which one is to buy between this and another brand that will fit my style and the difference between the two! Thank you for this video. I'm really surprised how old this video is.
It's jun/2024... and my minimalist kit of fineliners (UNI pin Fine Line) to learn drawing with Pen & Ink is:
- 0.03
- 0.05
- 02
- BR
These have worked out for outilne, detail, filling and lettering. My ECD to doodle on the go are the 0.03 and the 02.
Thank you for such detailed explanation about the possibilities of the different fineliners. 👍
Nice set you have there
I like the Copics partially because I find the ink fade less when you erase over them, I like that I can replace the nib and ink separately, and sometimes the sakura pens can bleed a bit if you colour over them with copic markers. but the sakura is great otherwise, just my 2 cents
I just started drawing with pens thanks to a class I am taking, I really like microns and have a 01, 03, 05 but am trying to use up my Pitt F&S since I don’t like the feel of them (dryer and feel cheaper) although I really like the brush. I was using my 01 for in-bible notes but traded it out for a 005, I may occasionally borrow it from my bible bag but 01 is as small as I need right now for sketching.
watercolours ! cool i really need those tutorial ! cant wait!
Pigma Microns are brilliant. Consistent, clean, reliable, and best of all, affordable!
Yup
I'm going through Copics like there's no tomorrow. Both the Multiliners (0.05, 0,1) and the Copic Sp's (0.03, 0.05, 0.1) last me 10 hours at the most. I wonder if these will be any better?
I've got a Rotring Tikky 0.1, but I don't really get on with it. It's too heavy and dark for my work.
So far my 0.45mn micron has held up for about a week and its still got the same feel as the first time ive used it.
i have accurate and sigma.. the sigma is so smooth.. i got in to pen and ink because i bought a acurit pen on a goof for the fun of it.. and fell in love with the flow.
Just subscribed! I was about to get Copic Multiliners, but the Sakura pens you showed are more for me. You saved me, haha. Thanks for this tutorial!
Try the copic either way...but the pigma microns shouldn't disappoint :-)
thanks for taking the time to pull this together
love these pens and the brush pen works great..lots of fun
great video thankyou!
+Blissfulthings They really are..Thanks
Thank you so much for your Tutorials they are extremely helpful and easy to understand.
Thanks alot...its good to know they help
Hey Alphonsotry this stuff, maybe you liked > rotring tikky rollerpoin, pentel color brush
recently i have started with color pencils. not crayola but not prismacolor by any means.but to outline i used a charcoal sketch pen to do the outline and all the color has ugly black or gray in there colors. If i draw with the outline and go over it with micron, can i erase the pencil lines once it dries and the ink wont smear? then once that is done and i color it in with no problems of the colors becoming ugly because of the black ink?
The pens dry really quickly and don't bleed either
You were very helpful and talented to you explained things very well detailed thanx
queenbeauty40 . thank you...once it helps some
Bought few. I like it) So much better than my old ball pen :)
+Dmytro Slyusar theyre good
I use Copic multiliners at the moment because they are simply easier to find over here in the Netherlands. What I found however is that they tend to bleed just a little bit whenever you pause even a second mid-line. It depends a bit on what paper I use, but I can't use my heavy (expensive) paper all the time. Going to try out those Microns some time soon. Also awaiting delivery of some Tombow and Zebra Pocket Brush Pens. I never considered myself a collector of anything realy, but pens and brushes is getting kind of addictive.
I agree.. I find the same issue whenever I use them. They're Ok but I just find microns are more versatile and fluid across whatever drawing surface I use them on. When you try them let me know how you like 'em
Awesome Artist , try www.vanbeekart.nl/ In their Amsterdam graphics shop they have Copic, Micron and Faber-Castell.
Nice review. I'm still torn between the Microns and Copics. I really like the brush pen, gotta get one now! TFS
+XiXi C lol both good
are these pens refillable???
i know they are great. i am currently using it for 3 days
but i dont know if they are refillable or not
Not refilable. But some copics do
If you don’t mind getting your hands dirty you can refill them (see RUclips) but they are designed to be disposable
this is an amazing review ! really descriptive, I'm going to get the sakura micron pen set , thank you
jordanfan94 Get 'em. You wont regret it one bit :-)
Very good demonstration! Thank you.
+Jim Cordle thanks
super helpful and man, blown away by your "quick sketching" skills. you are really good!
i have a question about the price and difference of the product. i wanted to get the sigma micron 59 set by sakura and one guy is selling it for $600 and other stores are selling for a $100... i don't get it? maybe you can tell me the difference why one is expensive when they're just the same set? thanks...
have you ever tried copic multiners sp? what are your thoughts about them? i have used this micron are awsome, but i'm thinking about to switch to copic... although will be wonderfull having the opinion of the best drawing tutor around youtube (imho). also, awsome tutorials!! been watching them for some months and have been really helpfull
+Moises Chavez Thanks. I do like them, I like the fact that you can switch out the points. I would advise you try different brands and see the way they feel and work in relation to the type of work you do
a really thorough good review, thanks for making this vid!!!
No worries. Glad it helped :-)
This is a great tutorial, Alphonso, it's quite useful, thanks a lot.
Subscribed :)
Thank you! : )
what gray brush pen were you using? I love the balance of the gray and the black, it's not too dark or too light it's just a perfect color that mixes with the black.
Gray brush pen?
it was the faber castell pitt brush pen at 3:50 do you know what color number that one is?
Awesome this needs more likes
have you tried the Pentel Brush Pen? It's a real brush with ink-cartridges!
The thing is I want to fill up large areas in black but individual Copic markers are not available in my area. Which is more appropriate the graphic 1 or brush pen?
GUAGNA Microns, Brush to 0005. Pretty cool really fluid and they all have ink. Same price, $9.00 say, on Ebay (free shipping). Those grey pens sometimes have no ink, weird. I'm not gonna complain or mail them back.
Great content Alphonso
Thanks
This quality is soooo amazing, you just earned a new subscriber sir. XD
thx.. welcome on board
***** In your experience, how long do these last? I got a pack of them and I don't press too firmly, but it seems like the .01 - .03's are already running out of ink and I havent completed one drawing with them yet. I do trace over pencil with them, is this something to be avoided? Any thoughts on pirsmacolor premiere pens? Any feedback is appreciated!
Well I guess it depends on how large your drawings are or the degree of markmaking. I have never used a dedicated set for an extended period of time so i cant give an honest estimate unfortunately. But i get a fair amount of use from them. prismacolors also give me fair usage
This was actually really helpful, thanks for the tips
thanks
***** I'm not sure if I should get the Copic Multiliner set or the Micron Pigma. Any Suggestion
Project Tri-Force Gaming get one of each! Then try them out. If not you're going to keep wondering what would the other feel like lol
There’s also a size 0.03 available which is great too for those extra fine lines
oh yes, I know
Ugh second time buying a micron set from local craft store and the pens either come out of the package not working. Or stop working in the first couple days. Love your tutorials wish I had pens to follow along. : / guess it’s a good ole bic for me
Hi, can you please tell me, which of types is that Faber-Castell you did grey shadowing with on Tyrranosaurus skull? Or what type of color is it. It is just what I am looking for. Thanks :)
Does the sakura pigma micron brush pen bleed?
these are fab actually, adore
good comprehensive review
+Appliance Paul thanks much : )
you have no idea how excited I am for this giveaway!!!
I am digging your videos. Thank you for the tutorials. What kind of paper do you use?
peybak for these, regular multimedia drawing paper from canson
Good video man, but I have a big question:
When these pens are used for inking graphite drawings directly, do the pen lines get erased a bit when you erase the graphite lines?
I ask because all brands I have used have this disadvantage, so I'm looking for this brand hoping they are better.
I havent had that problem but a quick fix could be too wipe the tip if the pen occasionally as you draw
I'll try that, thank you
Jon Bovi or u can change the type of eraser u use just saying
thank you so much for this video! purchasing an 8 pack right now!!
+Tammy Ferrer you'll enjoy it :-)
The ink from 08 sometimes lingers from it's line sometimes when it is on paper. But I really like pigma microns. I use these all the time!
They're well made pens :-)
Heck yeah! Especially the 005, something about that pen just makes my drawings way more fun.
Great review! This review really helps me thanks!
SULEIO LATALIO :-) no worries
:)
God bless you ! vand keep the good inspiratinal videos .
What paper is best for Micron pens?
Hi Alphonso! So far enjoying your lessons. Could you tell me whether the paper on your watercolor lessons is the same as pen&ink? What type of paper you use?
Generally not. But sometimes yes. I prefer to use bristol board for ink only and watercolor paper for ink and watercolor. Multimedia is also useful for both if you dont have neither
I use micron PN but what does PN mean? Excellent topic.
Plastic nib
I am confused. Why then so many people complain that these pens dry out quickly? Is there a special way you have to use this pen to avoid that or is that luck?
Not sure why, but they lastme for a couple months generally. it depends of course on how you use them and the size, details, and values of your drawings
I was wondering what pens sizes does the 16 set have because I'm thinking of buying one, thanks!
the group persons 005, 01, 02, 03, 05, 08, 1, 2, 3.
Where do you buy the pigma microns? I found them on ebay but I am not sure they're the real deal cuz they pretty cheap. and they're from china
Amazon.com
does these pens keep a strong pigment even if you erase over top of them ? because im having a hard time finding a good pen that doesn't lose the pigment after erase over top of them
+lydon sherrington for me they do, but it also depends on how hard you erase
+Alphonso Dunn thanks a lot man , i might just try these pens out for my self
These are very good. I bought a set, they work great, but my brush doesn't have any ink in it. :/
you gave really good tips on how to use them, buh my 005 and 01 are dead from less than a week after buying them
and the 005 only lasted 1 drawings cross hatching
buh the 08 its very good for outlines and lasted me more than 2 days :D
+Samuthekid wow! You must use them really hard o_O
+Alphonso Dunn yea its probably that
I recently noticed I have a bad habit of holding them at a very light angle, and I treat them like brushes
You can do that too..but you get more the closer to vertical they are
+Alphonso Dunn Thx for the help :) , Ill try it...
when I buy a new 005 and 01
+Alphonso Dunn WAIT! I did what any responsible human would do and I opened up the 005 pen
there is a little tube with a sponge inside of it and that is where all of the ink is stored in. And the ink was no where near running out, it was just that the sponge is too far inside the tube on both ends
so basically I got a defective pen
Whats the regular life span on this liners? Because the 005 already dry on me, and to be honest I didn't used that much
How long have you had it and do you leave it uncapped often?
@@alphonsodunn I bought them three weeks ago, but I started to use them three days after I got them. I usually us the liners for a period of 10 to 15 minutes every now and then, since I am a beginner, and never have left any of the liners uncapped. But I got to say, i did use this liner, the 005, on top of a drawing that I had colored with Prismacolors, and noticed that the liner didn't work on top of an area that had some color. I tried the liner on clear paper and it started to work again. Any thoughts on this? (Sorry for being such a draw xD )
Hey, just wondering, could you please tell me the name of the Copic you used at around 10:30? Thanks :)
+Drake Wilson Look up copic sketch markers with "special black"
Yo wassup, if im doing urban sketching, what size of microns should i use?
Which size you prefer. O3/05 are good medium sizes
hi there, are the sakura going to hold up without smearing if a medium is put on top?
yup. They have for me
Alphonso Dunn Im doing urban sketching and stuff, what size of microns should i use? On a Large moleskine art plus sketchbook
comment no. 100!!! copics have a brush tip not a bullet!!!!! oh and great video ! was very helpful
Pen vs pencil...which is better?
Neither...both complement each other, but help each other...I love them both..Each has unique characteristics, but pen can be a little more challenging especially where shading is concerned
Hi, I'm newbie. In the minute 10:36 and 10:41. What pens use ?
thats a Copic double-ended marker. It has a brush and chisel tip
What kind of paper do you use for drawing in ink
Bristol board
which paper do you use : ) ?
multimedia here
Are you doing anymore giveaways anytime soon?
Of course
You should do a video on just brush pens.
NotOrdinaryInGames hmmm

O okay cool
Im trying to emulate the style of Grimes' drawings, anyone know if micron pens are the way to go?
yes you can
This was immensely helpful :~)
Marley Dogwater :-)
How much do the Sakura pigma micron pens cost?
varies..depending on the set
The basic 4- tip set ( 0.1, 0.5, .1 graphic and brush) is ~10-15$ , pretty affordable for a guy like me who lives in Venezuela, lol.
This was awesome thank you!
no worries :-)
*****
Do you know of any stores were I could get these ?
amazon, blicks, michaels, jerrys, depends on where you're located
