    For all Hindemith's great merits as a composer, I don't think elegance would especially be among them. It was ingenius of him to choose this incredibly elegant theme from that most elegant of composers, Weber. Perfectly complementary.

    I've never heard this come in under 20 minutes. It's pulsating, and jazzy in the scherzo.

    at approx 1901 on the tape...hindemith waits just a second longer than any other recording ive heard to get into that great cymbal crash final section and it is so great...i wonder why no other orchestra ever does that? it is so much more effective to wait just that bit longer for that great climax

    bad intonation..bad entrances...but,,,this is my fav recording of this work
