would this only work on one side since the locking mechanism uses gravity ?
It can work in vertical direction.In case the button is facing down, the spring may not be needed.
I want the same product as yours but with automatic reset. No more pushing in and out.
How long would this spring last?
It lasts as long as the spring in your click pen.

Only the Inventor files can work.The files of other formats contain only information related to shape, dimensions and position of the parts.Missing information about the constraints between the parts.
I want a product like this, plus cushioning. Used on the hinge, open the door, push it out, close the door, it is cushioned closing.
You want a "soft close" mechanism.
