1) In the morning an hour after waking up, before food, after emptying your bladder, on the same arm each day. Take 3 consecutive measurements one minute apart and disregard the first one. The last 2 measurements will be more accurate. 2) The 2nd best time is in the late evening after winding down when the body is more relaxed. Do not be physically active prior to taking the measurement. Do not measure your blood pressure when your body is cold. Take 3 measurements and disregard the first one.
My doctor considered 130/80 too high, put me on the meds to take it down to 106/60. After blacking out a few times, back at my normal 130/80, healthy and happy again.
A clear and practical way to help you to check Bp which is a tricky and confusing. Never I seen in my life a doctor to help you how to check or control, they frighten the patient and got no time to explain or guide the patients only prescribe medications it’s from long experience of seeing many doctors all over the world Dr your video very helpful and a good guidance to the patients . Thanks for your way of making it easy to understand the Blood Pressure. Samirsalih prof
It's interesting how many things you mention that the doctors office never does. Haul you in, weigh you, talking, sit down, often take blood pressure over your sleeve, etc. Maybe this should be mandatory for doctors AND their nursing staff to watch.
Yes, this is what they do. After I have sat in the room for a while, and after I talk to the doctor, I have them to take it and it is lower Also when they called me to my room, I tell them I have to go to the bathroom.
Wow great explanation. I have experienced night time after some rest my BP was 112/80 and in the morning after wake up immediately 125/84. I learned great lesson....thank you for your constructive information.
A lot of people don't realize that sugar has a tremendous effect on raising pressure. I know that when I consume sugar or sweet foods my heart rate elevates and my pressure rises.
I do notice my pressure goes up when I eat purchased baked goods and I do think sugar is a culprit but I'm also beginning to think vegetable oils may also be a cause.
Yup, fellow old folks, spend your days taking blood pressure, taking meds & vitamins, seeing doctors who misdiagnose or ignore your repeated health concerns like swollen limbs, constant urinating, nausea, ad infinitum. My advice is prepay for a cemetery plot, its about the surest step you can make.
yep. Twice now I have been to the doctor with a concern and he has simply ignored it and focused on BP. It is a fixation...mainly due to the fact that pushing BP drugs is easier and more profitable than actually being a doctor and diagnosing my problem.
I was 14 years old when my Dad had a stroke. I watched him slowly die over a 2 year period. Everyone has to die but I would rather take my blood pressure and medicate than vegetate. It is hurtful when people are amused and shrug off self care.
I've been doing my readings right after waking up every day for the past 3 yrs and it's worked for me. Just get it over with and get on with my life for the rest of the day.
Thank you for the information, now I know when to take my blood pressure. I don't have a high blood pressure but just the same taking precautions. Thanks!
Thanks for the information it has been very helpful cause I do monitor my blood pressure at home and keep a journal for my doctor but I didn’t know about taking it late in the evening after settling down. So thank u ☺️
Excellent presentation thank you, great evidence based information, as a health professional myself this is a great summary - ps the voice over is also very relaxed I feel my BP lowering already! 😊
I'm not too worried about my HBP. All 4 of my grandparents had HBP - my maternal grandmother had VERY high BP and lived to 107. She refused any BP medication and told her doctor that that high reading was normal for her. My grandfather's was always in the 160/90 - 175/100 range and he lived to 99 and only died because he slipped on ice on a sidewalk and hit his head. My paternal grandparents were on and off BP medications since I was a baby and they both lived well into their late 80's and neither died of anything to do with heart issues or strokes (grandpa from lung cancer from smoking 2 packs a day for 75 years). I sometimes wonder if HBP is even an "illness" and not just a normal body response to food, stress, activity, etc.,.
Healthy BP varies person to person. A HBP is a symptom for an underline health condition. The key is to treat the underline health condition, not the symptom. BP is checked every health exam and every doctor visit. HBP drug is proscribed all over the places yet HBP still the top cause of death in US. Why? because the treatment is not effective but big pharm makes tones of money out of those harmful drugs.
It matters whether it’s on the shirt or on your arm. I always lift up my shirt and I tell them that you’re not supposed to do it over my shirt and they just look at me.
They also try to tell you it doesn't matter what arm you take it from which is also wrong! it should be on the left arm. Some of them actually ask you which arm you want them to take it from!
Lucid and clear explanation by the Doctor about how BP during the day is yo be taken and measured. The instruction given will be useful for the people not to get unnecessarily worked up about the BP readings taken during different times of the day. Thanks Doctor . May Gid bless you.
Me, too. I hate the feeling of cuff squeezing me. Even anticipating the cuff-squeeze sets me off. I feel claustrophobia coming on - things closing in on me. Maybe I watched too many 'Twilight Zones' when younger.
Great video. It helps a lot knowing what the nuances of blood pressure are. You mention the problems with high blood pressure and the meaning of systolic abd diastolic. I understand that. But I would like to know the risks of low blood pressure. I am a 69 year old man in generally good health. Ten minutes ago I took my blood pressure and it was 114/67 with a pulse rate of 74. Is that too low, or is there such a thing as too low? I'm currently taking metoprolol and amlodipine for my blood pressure, but I am thinking that it might be lowering it too much. I don't have any symptoms like passing out when standing up, or getting dizzy. That never happens. Am I making too much of this? Any comments would be appreciated. Thank you!
"arm at level of your heart" - I've known this but notice that ALL 'medical professionals (except for older docs who know things) ignore this and let arm fall into lap or rest lower than heart, then say 'you gotta lower your bp,' or 'you need meds.'
It's not hereditary bro. It's a consistent lifestyle that you've been predisposed to (high salt, sugar and processed foods) then you add stress and BAM.
My last BP reading was 247/94 so I was rush to A&E....the main reason was I'm always stress looking after my old disable husband. Medicine does not help.
Is it acceptable to take several deep breathe before BP measurements? I read the British Hypertension Society recommends taking BP until it quits changing and to use this as the true BP. Thoughts?

What if I can put more than 2 fingers like 5 fingers under the cuff?
1) In the morning an hour after waking up, before food, after emptying your bladder, on the same arm each day. Take 3 consecutive measurements one minute apart and disregard the first one. The last 2 measurements will be more accurate. 2) The 2nd best time is in the late evening after winding down when the body is more relaxed. In a nutshell.
Someone else told me to do that, but I stopped! Every subsequent BP reading is higher - every time!
Don't cross your legs and don't talk or move while you are taking it.
My doctor considered 130/80 too high, put me on the meds to take it down to 106/60. After blacking out a few times, back at my normal 130/80, healthy and happy again.
Wow! Glad you're better Sidonie.
Tell your Dr. to take a hike, there's plenty more where he came from!
130/80 is perfect. Ridiculous to go on lifelong meds - he just gets pushed to prescribe
Same thing happened to me,even hospitalization. I am happy you’re back to being healthy and happy.
That's not high 130/80.
Awesome ‼️💯

This is great. Why isnt it used when taking a medical physical?
You're right doctor. Thanks for your instructions.

My doctor has a big sign on the wall that says if your blood pressure is 140/90 or greater, remind us to take your BP a second time before you leave.
Yes, this is what they do. After I have sat in the room for a while, and after I talk to the doctor, I have them to take it and it is lower Also when they called me to my room, I tell them I have to go to the bathroom.
Thank you , this video will be helpfull to all the bp patient .

I'm a retired dialysis tech. I've monitoring my BP, every day. This is so educational for everyone. Thanks much.
Bless you Oretta. I missed going on dialysis by one week. Thank God. I had my transplant right before I had to go on dialysis.
Why is BP needed every day versus once a week or once a month?
Best Information....clear and very understable
Thank you Kristen!
Thank you very much, really appreciated ❤️🙏

Thanks for that, Laurel. Regards from Blighty :).
Same with my mother, a very high BP, no meds, and lived happily until 92
Thanks. Sir. For. Good. Information. ❤❤❤❤❤
A nurse took my blood pressure holding my arm out and over my sleeve. My reading was 215/110. Never in my life my blood pressure was that high
I had someone do that to me and it was high. They said it didn't matter which is bs.
Yes, I had that happen as well.

I have chronic HBP, OCD, ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION.
HAVING TO PUT MY arm in that cuff makes me anxious.
Me, too. I hate the feeling of cuff squeezing me. Even anticipating the cuff-squeeze sets me off. I feel claustrophobia coming on - things closing in on me. Maybe I watched too many 'Twilight Zones' when younger.
I’m the same. I’m wondering how to take it with out being nervous and getting the numbers ok
Me too😭

"arm at level of your heart" - I've known this but notice that ALL 'medical professionals (except for older docs who know things) ignore this and let arm fall into lap or rest lower than heart, then say 'you gotta lower your bp,' or 'you need meds.'
The cuff on the arm needs to be at the same level as the heart, not the whole arm.
Thanks
High blood pressure runs in the family. My aunts, uncles, and 30 of my cousins have hypertension. My grandmother also had it.
It's not hereditary bro. It's a consistent lifestyle that you've been predisposed to (high salt, sugar and processed foods) then you add stress and BAM.
