- How's it going, y'all??? Hope the beginning of the year is going better than 2020 :-)
I have another gem for you today - a beautiful composition by my favorite dynamic duo, Pat Metheny & Lyle Mays, off the We Live Here album (one of my all time favorites). "Something to Remind You" has this super cool and beautiful tag, and Lyle Mays did some magic in here, expanding it into pure beauty. I thought of doing it straight up solo guitar but felt that the arrangement would gain a bit if I blew on the form on a separate track, to keep the flow of the harmony going. I was thinking tonight as I listened to this how wonderful this life can be right now. Amidst a crazy week in which I dug a grave for our universally beloved and too-young dog, then attended a funeral the next day of a cousin who unexpectedly and suddenly died leaving two school-aged children, then watched and felt the effects of the violence in DC the next day, then read about war crimes the US has committed over many wars, then helped a super frustrated family members with computer issues who can’t otherwise get help due to lockdown issues - amidst all that plus a weeping child at midnight as I started to listen to this recording I was struck by how wonderful it is that I, and we all, get to snuggle in bed and dig some fresh awesome music for free (sorry about that - I would pay if you had a route to do that) played by a true and passionate lover of music while he creatively performs uplifting music composed by hip geniuses. It’s an awesome age.
