Rye Level Crossing (Ferry Road Crossing)

Four Class 171s in Southern livery head into Rye station and to Winchelsea respectively. This crossing is on Ferry Road, vice versa here the B2089 (a road I walk every day). The issue of the lights being hidden behind a sign and a building have not been addressed with the upgrade to LEDs. The leftmost one in the first shot is very turned, as if something has hit it already, and it is still not visible behind the building. Should really be a tilted light. The right hand light is still hidden behind the large direction sign that can be seen in the centre background in the second shot. The other side of the crossing has had the lights taken off of the pavement and are now behind the fences. The old original GWE barriers still remain with the alarms still inside, however in 2019 they may be replaced when the crossing is upgraded. One pole from the previous lights still remains as it has a phone on it to contact the signaller in Hastings. The alarms have not changed and are still very unique to this crossing. I have fond memories of this crossing as it was the first railway infrastructure I remember seeing as a child, and to see it being upgraded is good in a way. I remember the old lights here very well. Ah, memories.

Nicely done! An interesting light renewal, in which they've been fitted on new poles, one original pole remains bare however!

Because it still has a phone on it. I assume when the crossing is fully renewed in 2019 with the larger pavement the lights will be shifted about rather than moved

Just been here and the GWE's have been replaced with brand new SPX's! Grove road still has GWE's
