We need to remember that over 130 million Nigerians are in multidimensional poverty, how exactly do you want them to invest in stocks and bonds?? Secondly, currency is backed by the trust and faith of the people. Nigerians must trust the Naira for it to be a store of value, the government has lost that trust and faith because it refuses to perform it's primary function.

Also another more interesting question, selling bonds is essentially a government taking a loan, how are we sure all those money from bond selling will not be embezzled further driving the country down with heaps of debt to repay.

      1. Nigeria does not know how much oil we produce, we rely on report from companies to know how much we produce. Installing a simple tracking metre at every production will solve this.
      2. We are not even selling 100% of the oil we produce, most of it is stolen from the source, if the government doesn’t know the stealers, the top people in agency does.
      3. The few we sell, there’s no adequate accounting of the dollars from NNPC to CBN
      4. Make it difficult for everybody stealing funds to transfer it abroad into foreign currencies/ accounts
      5. Even if someone steal, make it that they have no choice than to spend that money in Nigeria
      6. Give states economic autonomy so they can move at their pace and contribute a quota to federal government.
If all these are done, there’s no need for all of these charades to save the naira, including buy nigeria campaign, borrowing from Afriexim etc.
Our currency is backed by oil, the oil have been systematically stolen over the years, debt burden is on the citizen and government these are why our currency is weak. Once we fix that, then allowing state autonomy will allow other sectors to thrive naturally.
States with agricultural strengths will do it and contribute, the one with natural minerals will do, 3 coastal states can decide to build their own ports and improve trade, a state can decide to fix its power supply to ramp up manufacturing.
However when states are not allowed to work and rely on stipend disbursement by the name of Federal allocation which are gotten from the remnant of oil funds and debt, nobody will be incentivized to innovate or create value, and even the few states that wants to, are hindered by federal jurisdiction.
Our governments will not do these things because they know the people involved in this national economic sabotage, and keeping Nigeria together will fuel some individual interests that have been settled more than 30 years ago, hence state autonomy will be bad for those individuals.
Our government cannot shit and ask Nigerians to pack it, when even the Nigerians have not benefitted anything from the government.
Sorry my talk is much, it is just out of passion and the media and all the narratives do not let Nigerians know the truth or should I say we forget the truth so quickly.

No matter how good the cbn decides to implement any monetary or fiscal policy it will not yield any good results as long as corruption is on the increase, insecurity is on the rise and the judiciary that aought to stand firm and deliver justice is also currupt NO reasonable foreign investor will take Nigeria serious. Massive unemployment is gathering like a cloud in the sky and I see it raining heavily.

Of course, you will get a symbolic bounce of the Naira from the rate hike, but it is not sustainable. I will prove it to you in a few weeks when cbn runs out of dollars to defend the Naira. These economic theories do not work in Nigeria, where the overwhelming portion of the Nigerian economy is informal. Hot money may come in from foreign portfolio investors looking for the higher interest rates, but they will need to repartraite their investments. Then what?
In the meantime, the extremely high interest rates will constitute the last nail on the coffin for honest entrepreneurs who need to borrow for their startups and ongoing businesses.

It is obvious that we don't know what we are doing in Nigeria or at best we don't understand the problem we are dealing with. Too much money in circulation is not true, because most of these Governors just collect allocations and use the money to buy Dollars and keep so if you say with this policy you want to mop up excess money in circulation, where are you going to see this money to mop. That is why all these economic theory is not working in Nigeria, you just end up punishing the masses

The problem is that Rotus is like many other tv speakers in Nigeria, elite wannabes; who have no scintilla of ideas on how to fix economy for the benefit of the people, because their understanding of forming a government has no connection with the people that government is supposed to serve.
Rotus is a typical Nigerian elite who treat the common people with arrogant disdain as if they have no reason to even exist in the first people. Nigeria elitism is equal to hating on the poor. That's how they think.
Rotus is no different from the guys in AC offices making policies that continue to kill people. Rotus has no connection or relationship or understanding or even feelings, for how the barrow pusher on the street is able to survive and live everyday.
