      If you are gonna try the smaller ones, do the Classic 350. Its basically the INT650, but even more striped back very simple and cheap as hell. Great fuel mileage as well

      yea i agree with calvin i took a interceptor for a test ride here in australia and one of the other riders was getting his first bike and he took out the classic 350 and it looks and sounds pretty good and was on the highway doing "ok" at 100kmph / 60mph
      im sure with some power mods and things the little classic 350 will be a pretty neat little ride
      i currently ride a yamaha v star 650 classic and i love it to death but its hurting my upper back due to a medical condition so ive been looking around at a few cheap reliable bikes like the CB650R and the int 650 and KLR 650 tho the KLR is abit too slow for my liking it needs a little turbo to give it another 10HP or somthing
      i do long rides on long strait roads that go for hours if you have any ideas that arent the versys 650 or v strom 650

    Brazilian guy here. I totally understand why they feel the 350s are inadequate for the USA roads and speed limits, but I think they could take in account that the average usage is a LOT different in Europe, Asia and South America. Also how great they are for begginers and returning riders. After more than 30 year I came back, got a Meteor, at 52 years old, and every week I'm on the road. The bike is a Joy. No doubt I'll get something bigger in a year or two (probably the RE 650 cruiser that is coming), but its qualities, centered in experience, acessibility and great price with good quality, can't be denied. Not counting the differences in average buying power. Around here it is grossly a third of the USA. Imagine if the Harley baseline price would be 60K USD. Only the super rich could get it and most people would be buying smaller, lower capacity bikes. I am a trauma surgeon and I can't get one of those.

      Here in Europe there is no need for the 350 when you go from a1 15hp to a2 48hp

      Brazilian here to. Agreed with every single think you sayde. For the large part of the USA peoople, 650 cc bikes are small bikes. Here in Brazil, 250cc are small/medium size bikes kkkkk

      @@sanitvr same here in the UK. 125s to 350s are considered small bikes and 650s are considered big bikes to allot of people.

      @@antonsamuelsson1317 I agree Ive just done my CBT and have a 125 and when I get my A2 license I'm getting a 650 and skipping a 350 cos it's just not worth the money when I can buy something bigger

      Even in the USA. I’m novice and 54 years old and don’t want to plop down a kinds of cash on my first bike. I’m sporting a new RE 350 classic. It’s so fun to ride and since I’m mostly local, it gets a lot of use! Even when I get the bigger faster second bike… the RE 350 will still get the most use.

      Maybe next he can find another description for less powerful bikes than "beginner bike." I'm 60 yrs. old, been riding on and off for almost 50 yrs. and will never have a bikes that makes peak HP at 11,000 rpm. I'm happy with a bike that' gets me back me back and forth to work with a smile on my face.

      @@jeffrielley920 Exactly , I am 55 and have been riding for 45 of those years , BSA, Triumph , Norton , Yamaha , Kawasaki , Honda , and now own a 2021 Interceptor ( as my 2nd bike ) and love it to bit's , like my old British classics but , Reliable and fast enough with that ' Sound ! '.

    I would love to see you guys go to India and explore how people use motorcycles over there and how Royal Enfield, and motorcycling in general, fits into their way of life. That could be a fascinating series of videos if you guys ever feel like doing something different. That would also help explain the lower models of bikes that RE offers.

      Bruh, only a tiny, really tiny portion of the Indians like the Royal Enfield these days. The older ones are awesome, but the recent 350's and 500's are jack shit. For the price payed they deliver very bad quality motorcycles. I owned a 500 four years back, and within a month of delivery it started rusting. I sold it within a year.The only successful models are the Himalayan and obviously the 650twins. At the end of the day, 80% people buy Royal Enfield as they sense it a symbol of pride or something. I own an interceptor 650 but I bought it cuz it is a fun to ride motorcycle.

    Have a Classic 350 and love it. Perfect for the roads here in Thailand. Handles and feels great. Oozes personality. A bit underpowered for America, but perfect for a lot of other countries.

      Funny you mention that, I'm in Bangkok and frequently see a Meteor 350 in my neighborhood (Sukhumvit Soi 8) and I think to myself, man - what a cool looking little bike.

      Do you mean old classic or new classic? The new Classic just like the Meteor is butter smooth. The old classic is like 1930 thumper (which it might as well be).

      I have a RE Bullet 350 with a kick start and totally love the retro feel. Makes you stand out in the crowd of sports bikes. And the charm of that bike is out of this world.

    Have had my Meteor 350 for almost a month. It's my first bike at 51 yo, I wanted something to commute to work, ride the side roads, and have no interested in burning rubber or popping wheelies. I want to cruise around and not die. Its been perfect so far

    I’m very pleased with my 650. It’s the closest I could get to my first bike, a 77 Yamaha twin. Picked it up in Albuquerque, lashed my backpack, tent, and sleeping bag to it, and rode a roundabout 3700 miles back home to Puget Sound over two weeks.

    I enjoyed your video. But, as a proud Meteor 350 owner, I think you are underestimating this bike. I live in Houston and 99.9% of my riding is just around town. It's perfect for this. This bike was not purchased to ride to Sturgis. As fun and easy as this bike is to ride, I would not be surprised to see the sales of smaller displacement bikes take off.

    You guys must create an ideal version of the Interceptor! Remove all the unnecessary weight (say 50 lbs from exhaust, alloy wheels, etc.) and do some performance mods. I am sure it'll become something amazing under your guidance.

      There is an 850 Kit available which makes a lot of power. But the cost is pretty high because the installation requires a lot of machining. If you look at the cost you could buy a different bike with more power from the get go.

      @@marcelpursche5339 I would prefer if the same engine can produce ~60 hp and the bike weighed 50 lbs less. There is a Tec 2 in 1 exhaust which itself can shed 26 lbs and improves performance!!! Many other unnecessary things can be removed or replaced.... The performance difference will definitely be significant.

      Then, those funds can be spent on weight shaving.

    I disagree. These bikes make perfect sense, for who their target market is. It's now an Indian company which sells the most units in India. In fact it sells well in Asia in general. Americans and Europeans make up such a tiny portion of RE owners.
    These are practical bikes, made as commuters and daily riders for people in countries where motorcycles are the main form of personal transportation. That's why they're so basic, that's why they're so cheap. They havent adjusted their marketing or altered their products to meet the north american and european markets. They know their bread and butter and they stick to it.

    To be fair, these were specifically designed for Indian roads, where the speed limit is 60 miles per hour at best. There is no place in India where you need anything more than 15 horsepower on a bike.
    Obviously, they will suck on American roads, but that's not what they're meant for.

      Indian highways have 120 kmph ( >70 mph ) upper speed limit .

      so if they werent designed for use here in the US, why sell them here? we dont have license restrictions like Europe does so getting the smaller 350 is just more of a hassel than getting the 650. especially if you ever want to take your motorcycle anywhere other than just cruising around small towns at 25-45 mph. and at that point, why not just get a honda which is more fuel efficient.
      I love the 650 and I do plan on getting one, but the smaller displacement bikes just dont ever make sense here in the US. they are right in saying theres just better options out there that do a better job in every catagory.

      I did 160 kmph (almost 100 mph) on this bike, on Indian roads.
      Sure India has bad roads in quite a few cities, but damn the highway are mind blowing.

    Y'all should definitely try the Meteor 350.
    I use mine for city commuting and the occasional highway jaunt, it's absolutely perfect for that! Probably wouldn't put in a cross-country tour on it though.
    For reference, I test-rode a Triumph Bobber, a Rebel 500, and a Meteor 350. The Meteor was by far the most comfortable, smoothest handling, and had juuust enough power on tap to take her on the highway.

    If you're going to try the Meteor (or Classic) try to imagine it's end use. I have a Meteor because it's the bike I've been waiting for for thirty years-basically a 1940s or 50s British small capacity single that you don't have to strip down every thousand miles. Around my home in Scotland even the A roads are country roads. It's perfect for the conditions: heavy enough to feel grounded, sufficiently agile for winding poorly maintained tarmac, returning over 90mpg and comfortable enough for my ancient and aching ass.

    Horses for courses, the Interceptor isn't designed to be a Harley and the Meteor isn't designed to be a high speed racer. Both take me back in spirit and feel to the bikes I rode in the 60s in the UK. Please try the Meteor and Classic long term, doing what they are designed to do. Outside of the USA road conditions, speed limits etc are diferent. Here in Australia the my Meteor is a great fit, it will cruise at the speed limit here all day, it'll handle dirt roads, it'll wizz round town to do the shopping, all without breaking the bank. What's more, it has a great single cylinder exhaust sound, the Clssaic sound is even better. 🙂

      @@AZ-wc5ot Thinking of riding style (highway cruiser) bike size, and sound rather than horsepower. Don't take offence, but in many places in the world Harleys are regarded in the same way as USA cars are, sort of the "Yank tanks" of the motorcycle world. 🙂

    As an older rider, I've had my big bikes but now it's different... I love my smaller displacement bikes because for me it's about enjoying the ride. I don't need to be anywhere at breakneck speed... I've even taken my Trail 125 on adventures and the challenges are more fun than trying to keep a 500lb bike up on the trails. I now have 3 Royals in my corral now. Plus you cannot beat the price.

    It’s really not just “newbies” these bikes are for. Our last few bikes were ZRX, Valkyrie, and a Gold Wing. But, as an older rider, I wanted a good bike for buzzing around our city or even through a local National Park on weekends. I’m to grown up for a scooter. And my wife loves riding with me…not always great on a scooter. R.E. Has hit this target! And it’s bigger than you think…is a Bonny T100 REALLY worth the money? Anyways, that’s my 2 cents.

      Sounds dope but a cruiser has to have a V-twin in my opinion. Does not have to be an aircooled 114cui engine but still. Sounds and looks better.

      @@hendrikg3616 It's going to use the INT650 Twin-P with the 270d crank. So it'll have the V-twin bark, Just not extremely noticeable without AFM exhaust. Plus I get ya, abut the cruisers needing V-twins. Probably the reason why I don't want the Rebel 500 is because it sounds like a stupid sports bike in a sportster body. A No-Go for me.

    The Himalayan is a great bike that you really have to ride to understand. Like my TW its slow speed poke around bike that can go anywhere and is fun. If you get one take it off road in the places you take the KLR. Its not a high speed tourer for sure, nor is it sporty. Its mission is load it like a pack mule and ride it around the world on any terrain.

    New Zealander here. Big RE fan. Great discussion. The big thing to come out of all this is the road quality and speed limits around the world. Even here in NZ our speed limits are mostly 90-110 on all open roads and these are single lane and often average quality. We have no interstate. India and Asia worse again. RE makes sense in that context more than in parts of the US.

      We also have 90-120 speed limit on highways and mostly city roads are limited to 60, so even the small 350s work pretty good everywhere

      I think that argument is valid in the UK too (and quite possible very many other parts of Europe). Yes, we have motorways, but there is a massive network of single carriageway roads which call for a manner of riding/driving which might not be understood by people in some parts of the USA. The videos I've seen from the USA would seem to suggest that the meaning of the word "Twisties" varies between different countries.
      Edit. The maximum speed limits in the UK are 70mph on dual carriageways and 60mph on single carriageways

      In brazil they launched an engine remap that makes the bike to run better with our 25% ethanol admixture to the gasoline (cars and brazilians bikes can run on gasoline or ethanol, Brazil is the world first bioeconomy) and they suspended the speed limitation, now the meteor can go up to 130km/h.

    Every time you talk shit about RE it triggers me but then I realise that from your perspective it's true. America has a huge selection of beginner and small cc bikes that the 350 RE models don't seem appropriate. My family owns 3 RE (Classic 500, Himalayan and Conti 650) and we love all of them for different reasons. Love your videos and glad that you guys finally gave RE a chance. Apology accepted 🤣

    The meteor 350 isn't that bad, most countries have shitty roads and slower speed limits anyway. Ofc for the US market isn't a good bike. But for short commute and urban riding the meteor is decent.

    I was a sports bike squid for years. My cousin owns a 2019 Baker Express Interceptor and I borrowed it for a trip. I was so impressed by the sound and feel of this motorcycle, its like once you get to around 4th gear and onwards, there is this whistling sound from the engine. It sounds absolutely amazing.

      🤣 am also a sucker for that whistling sound. Its not as pronounced as a triumph triple whistle. But its there. Especially the rider can feel it and its so much fun when you are riding in windy hill station roads.

    Recently bought a himalayan, and I thoroughly enjoy it. I came in with the expectation of a slow, heavy, and underpowered bike and while it is those things, it compensates. It has plenty of low end torque to get safely ahead of traffic from a stop, the weight is all the way down on the bottom, and in the power band it easily gets over almost anything. I was torn between the himi and the int at the dealership, test drove both of them and drove out with the himi.

    Wanted the interceptor. Was too heavy for my liking. Got the classic green. So far happy with my decision. I might consider buying the upcoming supermeteor in the near future

    What I like about the Interceptor is that it seems to me to be the sort of bike that the decently competent mechanic can customise and work on. To me, it kind of screams cafe racer rebuild, but then tha'ts my fave sort of bike :D

    Meteor rider here, I wanted an interceptor but really couldn’t stretch to it and needed a new bike immediately to get to work. I took the Meteor for a test ride and couldn’t stop smiling on it.
    That said, I wouldn’t fancy riding it in the US, especially on freeways, it’s perfect for U.K. roads excluding motorways. It’s completely tapped out at 70mph.
    For a cruising round enjoying the scenery and thumping to work it’s great. Especially as it’s so cheap and gets 90mpg 😬

    Get the S&S Cycle Big Bore Kit, it bumps the RE up to 865cc and 70 bhp with enough torque to do an involuntary wheelie in 3rd gear.
    Rest of the RE frame is engineered enough to withstand the power increase, although I recommend also a small upgrade of the breaking system.

    An Indian from America, I just can’t get past the fact that I can pay less than half of the US price to essentially get the exact same bike in India.
    After riding Vespas/Jawa in India 25+ years ago, stopped riding in the US - though kept thinking of buying an RE for last 15 years. After following you guys and Itchy Boots, the itch for 2 wheels became too strong. Ended up buying a 2007 VStar 1100 in 2020 (with 35 miles on odo) and am a very happy camper. Thinking of getting an adventure bike next.

    I have my meteor 350 for 6 months already and this bike became my baby... I know it has little torque, I know it can't go over 130km/h and I also don't know why I love it sooo damm much!!!!!
    I truly miss my "Eliza" if I don't her get out for 2 days in a row and from time to time I get myself smiling out of nowhere in the middle of a curve... RE got to my soul, and I thank her so much for this... It's all about the ride, not about the specs...

    I started my biking journey on the int 650. As yammie rightly said, I am head over heels in love with it. For a beginner, it is definitely a fun, good sounding and quick bike. I have briefly ridden a bikes which are way more powerful and quicker than my 650, but I personally still feel a lot more comfortable in the 650 because it’s less intimidating and easier to ride. If you’re looking for a weekend getaway ride with some highways and mild twisties, then this bike got you covered.
    It’s been a forgiving, fun and definitely a lovable bike so far.
    PS: Currently rocking a custom gel seat and performance end cans by Powerage on my 650

    Yea i am still thinking as my first Motocycle i going for the Meteor 350 as it will suit the purpose of a nice Urban/city cruiser and i can also do a few twisties if i want. If i want to cruise on the HWY or even go fast thats what i have my Mustang for. Hopefully by this time next year ill have taken the MSF course and gotten my M class on my License and get a Meteor 350 to cruise around on before i upgrade to the coming up Super Meteor.

    When I think back over my 40 years of riding pretty much every type of bike from cruisers to superbikes, some of the most fun bikes I've owned have been the small capacity low powered one's. My favourite being my CX500 back in the 80s. Sometimes less really is more

    I've owned three motorcycles in my life: a 2004 Royal Enfield Bullet 500, a 2013 Bonneville SE, and a 2022 Royal Enfield Meteor 350. Did a 1000 mile trip round trip on the 2004 Bullet from New Jersey to Ohio and back. I avoided interstates, budgeted in an extra day each way to take things slow, stuck to the two-lane highways and stayed at campsites. Slowing down a bit let me enjoy the scenery and small town cafes, mom and pop restaurants, etc. I would have missed using the interstates. Even when I got my Bonneville, which was more than capable of interstate speeds, I found myself riding the same way: I stuck to the backroads and enjoyed the scenery even on long trips. Now I have the Meteor.. Works just fine for my work commute from Elgin to Austin, and given some extra time will get me anywhere I want to go. It may not do everything that most riders in the USA would want, but it fits my riding style and does everything I want it to do very well. The build quality and reliability (so far) are miles ahead of my old 2004 Bullet. Maybe taking my first long trip on a drum-braked, carbureted 20hp thumper with points ignition tempered my expectations, but I am very happy with my current ride!

      Riding interstates for long distances sucks. Doesn't matter the bike. My bike's fast af but road trips for me are 90 percent real roads. I agree about the scenery also like stopping for meals in local restaurants.

      You said it right. A 350 will get you there. Just stay off the expressways!! Not a good place for any motorcycle really. Trucks and four wheelers in a big hurry.

    My Meteor is great if you fully understand it's limitations. Interstate highways are a no because you'll only hit 70+mph going downhill with a tailwind, but it's got the tripper to plan a route that avoids them and takes you on new and exciting routes.

    In the UK, you can go into a showroom which are as common as McDonald's buy a bike and get it within a couple of days and they are selling them hand over fist. I ride a Tuono but test rode the interceptor & Meteor for a mate who is on a foreign licence & can't test ride. The build quality, looks and warranty for the RRP is insane, unbeatable. The Meteor handled well, but I couldn't get on with the power band and heel or two at all. The looks of the interceptor, the after market support and the price it's hard to to argue with at all. I almost bought one, but I ride like a Jeremy Hunt on occasions so couldn't do the BHP.

    3:25 that was my thought process as well, I was considering the Classic 350 as a college commuter (costed about 2.5 lacs/$3200 after tax) but then I saw the interceptor (3.5 lacs/$4400 after tax) and since the price wasn’t that much more and you got like 2 times the performance I went for it instead

      For Indian context, the performance is great, especially on highways, but I am not sure if it suitable for day-to-day commuting because of the weight and the foot peg position.

    As far as wheelies go on the RE Int650, my son can wheelie the heck out of this bike and ride that wheelie out a pretty good distance. I'm about to replace the camshaft on mine and have it tuned.

    I'm a returning rider after a 25 year break, don't want to go back to big heavy bikes, saw the meteor online and loved the look (really don't like the Rebel). It's a great bike, comfortable, manoeuvrable and dirt cheap to run. Watched the comparison between the 300 and 500 with the Honda CBR 500 last night and the things you were saying there, are the reasons I love the meteor. Ergonomically, it suits me, the foot slightly forward puts less pressure on my knees (I also love the heel-toe shifter). Looks wise it really jumped out of the screen when I first saw it and I'd been looking at a lot of bikes without the same feel.
    Sure, it's not fast, but I often take it to around 75 mph and cruise between 65-70, enjoying the ride. I've no trouble getting away at lights when filtering to the front. After being back on a bike for a while now I am looking at getting a bit more power. I tried the Interceptor, love the looks , the sound, and the ride, but the feet slightly back, put pressure on my knees when shifting up. Guess I'll have to wait for the Super Meteor 650.

    Guys, I like your humble take on RE. As an owner of two Ducati's, a Harley and a Himalayan, I find the HY the bike of choice when I just want to explore the unpaved, often not very well-maintained roads around here. It's hard to beat, especially at the cost point of the bike, and, knock on wood, I've had no issues with it in almost 3 years of ownership. And there's something relaxing about the bike in a way that's hard to explain... For a long trip, it's my Multistrada. For a hooligan ride, it's the Hypermotard and for two up, the Harley. For a first-time adventure rider with a small pocketbook and time to explore, the Hym is a pretty good choice.

      I think you guys have much better selection when it comes to Dual sports. I feel Himalayan was a poor choice.
      In India, Himalayan is the only big capacity dual sport. That is why it sold well. Absolutely no competition.
      RE still managed to screw such a simple bike.
      There were absolute horror stories about Himalayan's durability. The wiring was cheap, welds were horrible and chassis broke fairly easy. The engine weighs way too much for the performance it offers.
      RE has a reputation of being unreliable in India. They were selling 80s engine tech.
      Recently, Bullet 350, Meteor and the 650 twins got completely new engines that were built to modern standards.
      650 twin is a gem of a engine.

    Plus it's a looker. I have the Continental GT in black. The "hot-rodding" you mention works. Went from 42 real wheel hp stock (dyno) to 53 with the S&S 750 kit, performance exhaust, other simple mods. I have several bikes--this is the one that makes me smile.

    I see no problem with a small bike like a 350 in the US if you have no interest in cruising Interstate highways. To me, those super highways are meant to get you places express. I never ride interstates if I'm out on a recreational ride. I'm a laid back kinda rider in no rush. Feel no need to drag race light to light. Guess it depends on one's riding likes.

    In India, Royal Enfields cost half of what they're charging in the US (2779$ vs 4649$ for meteor) since it's manufactured here and comes with a trust that every mechanic here can repair one. At that price point it's one of the best options.

    I'm an RE simp, hugely influenced by amazing rides in India a few years ago. Loved my time with the Himalayan (even though I later didn't actually buy one). That said the old Bullet 350 is harrrrd work to ride, so we all have our tolerance levels. Much respect to those that went RTW on that beast.

    The interceptor is my 5th Royal Enfield / motorcycle I've owned in the last 12 years.
    I went up the steps gradually from a
    1974 Cast Iron 350 - my dad's bike on what I actually learnt how to ride on.
    2012 Classic 350 - finally bought my own when i started working and got into motorcycling seriously.
    2014 Classic 500 - upgraded cause I wanted a bit more power.
    2018 Himalayan 411 - downgraded engine capacity but went "adventure" cause i wanted to have a little fun. This was my most favourite of the lot. Too much fun on this one.
    2021 Interceptor 650 - upgraded cause the Himalayan didn't have enough oomph. I love this bike! But still miss being bratty like how i was on the Himalayan.
    I just test rode the BMW F850 GS for a possible upgrade soon and loved everything about it and found out twin cylinders are what I like the most rather than the triples or the 4 cylinders (after rigorous testing of the Tiger 660 and Tiger 900).
    BUT!!! What's funny was, right after testing the GS and I got back on the Interceptor 650 to go back home, I couldn't understand why the interceptor brought back such a wide grin on my face. RE has definitely hit this one out of the park with a few little niggles. But IS there really a perfect bike?
    I like the fact that you guys noted how good it sounds. I've got a pair of after market Red Rooster exhaust's clipped on, and ohhh how this bike makes heads turn!!
    So glad that RE is finally getting the recognition they deserve for keeping motorcycling simple and accessible !

    The re interceptor is the ultimate current “standard bike”. The ujm’s of the 70’s and 80’s were so popular for the same reasons. One thing I haven’t heard you mention is the placement of the driver foot pegs. There is a kit from India that sorts that out perfectly. Unfortunately, currently that company is recovering from Covid restrictions over there.

    I've owned lots of motorcycles in my life, but somehow this thing just pushes the FUN button every time. Had it for 3-4 weeks and already installed S&S cans, K&N, Renthal Ultralows, bar end mirrors, levers... it's a canvas. When I look at it, I smile.

    Before I had a tenere 700 i had a Himalayan i loved it so much i put a delkevik full exhaust system on it and some shinko 804 805s 150 wide rear on it and it never let me down probably the most fun ive ever had on a bike in a long time never got stuck with it anywhere such a cool bike but i had to make room for more bikes lol

    I rented one of the 650 a few years back and loved it. Decided to sell the fjr1300 and get a roadking because I enjoyed it so much
