@M First, the question is popular in terms of people playing, or popular in terms of people watching. Right now, in the US, in terms of watching, NFL Football, not baseball is now the most popular. But far more people play (in organized leagues) either baseball and softball, (with many post collegiate adults playing slow pitch softball), than play American football. Basketball is also popular, because the costs for players is lower than baseball and American football. Soccer is most frequently played by kids, less so than adults, and people have been saying for years that soccer would overtake football in the US. That just hasn’t happened, as most kids move on and WATCH other sports. The popular support of particular sports can vary depending on location. But soccer hasn’t supplanted the big four (Football, baseball, basketball and hockey). It can also depend on whether the local team is good or not. The big three used to be baseball, boxing, and horse racing, but the latter two have really dropped off from what they used to be. It also took a long time for professional football to surpass college football (again, this varies a bit depending on location within the US) And don’t forget auto racing, which is extremely popular in certain parts of the country (the South), but not in others. I live in New England, and surprisingly, the biggest stadium is a NASCAR stadium in central New Hampshire (not far from Concord, NH). It’s bigger than Fenway Park (Red Sox) in Boston, and Gillette Stadium (Patriots). But the fans of NASCAR tend to come from northern New England, not as much in southern New England. Interestingly, one of the most popular sports globally is related to baseball. I am speaking of Cricket. It’s popular in many former colonies of the UK. But hey, variety is the spice of life.
We had 2 umpires during a tournament and they did stuff like this. At the end of it they had told me that they acted like this so when they made a bad play people would not be mad 😂
Dal Bondra disappointed you didn't recognize me but it's a pretty good war going on right now beetween the jays and texas. the rangers just didnt look ready today.
Habsfan34 _ Hamels also sucked on the mound, nobody could hit the damn ball, lets just say it was a terrible game from the Rangers standpoint and from a rivalry standpoint because rivalries form from tight games, not blowouts. Whatever, Happ sucks, he'll get lit up for sure :P
Nothing wrong with having fun as an umpire. I did it for 15 years, and I had a variety of 3rd strike calls. However, I kept in mind a couple rules of thumb, which I see violated here: 1> Never show up the batter (most important--it's bad enough to strike out. It's worse if you feel like the umpire is mocking you) 2> Never take your eye off the ball (it's embarrassing missing a dropped 3rd strike or steal of home because you're in the middle of your little dance) 3> Never start the call before the pitch is caught (I saw a lot of movement before the pitch got to home, which leads to expanding the zone) 4> Never use your right hand to signal a ball (The guy at 4:28 would be terrible to work with).
its very annoying for a ball player, and ump did that at one of my games last year and I told him to shut the fuck up, I got ejected but it was worth it he didn't do it the rest of the game
As I said, you dont't show up the batter. I was a bit of a Naked Gun, but I didn't do anything that would make the batter look bad, and didn't say anything stupid (If I was working a game and my partner said "Mama Said Knock You Out" on a strike three, I'd refuse to work with him again). It's got to be about the players, not you.
Same thing happened to me and I was a catcher. The ump did it through the whole at bat and the pitcher was throwing heat, I called for a fastball over my right shoulder but got "mixed up" with a curve-ball. We ended up striking the batter out looking and it took a good few seconds for the him to finish his "routine." All I said to him was shut the fuck up and call it don't play it out, the game isn't about you, and I got thrown out quicker than any of his calls that game.
love these, when i played little league we had a umpire that had the most epic evil/cool laugh that he would do when someone struck out looking, ill never forget that
At least Dutch didn't run halfway up the line to call a strike...he just shifted to one side. I was at a game when Dutch was behind the plate, and I could hear him from the third deck out in left field.
Wouldn't be surprised if the umpire's enlarged strike zone was a factor. (See the pitches at 2:14 and 2:45.) That's not to say I'm opposed to calling such pitches in the vicinity of the plate strikes. Especially for that age group where the pitching will be less consistent. Just giving a potential explanation. Another possibility could be intimidation of the umpire; she may want to take the chance of missing to avoid the chance of being called out on strikes looking.
Can you imagine these umpires in the Major League Baseball? 😂😂😂 OMG, these umpires would be the highlight of every night on Sportsnet Central.😂😂😂 I wish umpires in MLB were this funny making these hilarious calls😂😂😂.
At the MLB level, I'd just settle for them GETTING the calls. Half of the umpires in MLB truly suck now. Every time Angel Hernandez f***s up, or Joe West makes a f***ing spectacle of himself, Dutch Rennert and Doug Harvey have got to be turning over in their graves. Rennert was proof that one could be a loud, demonstrative umpire and still be very good. Harvey was just the epitome of dignity on the field.
Dutch Rennert was the most demonstrative umpire I ever saw in MLB. Great umpire, but on a routine strike call he moved several feet to the first base side, dropped to a knee, and pointed to the dugout. I wouldn't be surprised if he completely missed it when the catcher dropped the ball.
I'm okay with the ump being loud, clear and fun. But not humiliating let the player's play the game and encourage them to have fun and play hard Good ball
3:51 how I expected umpires to act during the 2022 MLB World Series. For those of you looking on years ahead this was a super heated and insane championship

When I played little league we have ump's that were too quiet. I constantly had to ask what the count was. Then again I was that kid that only got on base by being hit or getting walked.
the 2nd umpire shown is James Reese he lives in Omaha Nebraska and my father started working with him over 20 years ago and i also umpire now and i just happened to work with him last night. still going strong at 73
The funny yelling's great. The guy that takes 6 steps, signals, then memes/sings some silly song or other, got old fast. lol At one point you see a camera man off to the right waiting to capture his antics. Too much.
I had one of these crazy umpires once. He had the "STRIIIIIIIKE OOOOOONE" call. The base umpire wasn't so crazy, but it turned out that he was the guy in the video of the time a Mariners groundskeeper had to catch a cat - that attacked him.
Our little league ump only did this if you took strikes while looking, it motivated the batters to swing more because he didn’t want to spend 9 innings watching full count at bats.
1:50 by far the best and most natural of these videos, all others are trying to make them the center of attention, an ump is suppose to be absent in all ball games
Imagine being 10 years old and striking out, then hearing the umpire yelling "Whoomp There it is!" behind you
That’s fucked ☠️
STRIHIIIIIIII WHOLETTHEMDAWGSOUT HOOHOOHOOHOO
Just remember their face. Crush the ball next time. And when you get that home run say “Who there it is!”
10 year old don't know that song
Id laugh and go to the batting cage..if you don't like getting rung up. Put the ball in play.
I find this highly entertaining
it makes me want to watch the game again
Me too. I’m not even that big a fan of baseball
This is freaking hilarious.
As an official I find most all of these embarising...
Why does the guy at 5:16 sound like that blue bird from angry birds?😂

HOOOOOOOOOOO 2 CHAINZ
Mace Windex LOL
Everybody thinks these umpires are funny but if you are playing, it's pretty fucking annoying
I think these umps like their job a little too much.
I think the blue jays destroyed texas a little too much.
Habsfan34 _ says the Habs fan. At least the Rangers make the playoffs in their shitty division.
Dal Bondra disappointed you didn't recognize me but it's a pretty good war going on right now beetween the jays and texas. the rangers just didnt look ready today.

Dal Bondra our goal was to win 1 game in texas so I don't really care if we lose tomorrow. We have to win the 2 games in Toronto now

1:09 I can´t believe he went there!
I like how some umps be like "HUUUUURGH STRIIIIIIIIKKE TWOOOOOOO" and then in the slightest whisper "bal"
Most umps don't say anything for a ball.
Dude if I had an ump like that when I pitched, i would've been crying laughing lmao
And if you had him when you were batting, especially as far off the plate as many of those were, you'd have probably just been crying. Or cussing.
This needs to be re-titled to, "When the Ump Thinks He is More Important than the Game".
nailed it... and it has to be vary distractive for the players.
jhmclellan absolutely and a lot of them had bad stances and mechanics
when umpires get so bored it hurts.
They're just trying to have fun with the kids, and clearly they were enjoying it.

Dude 1:38….that hit that whip hard 😅
4:02 Dutch Rennert would be proud!
At least Dutch didn't run halfway up the line to call a strike...he just shifted to one side. I was at a game when Dutch was behind the plate, and I could hear him from the third deck out in left field.
Where was this for me when I was playing baseball?
How do these players even play straight with a crazy umpire?😂
I once had this ump and whenever it was a strike he would go, "BEEE-DOOOOO" And it was hilarious.
0:56 when you umpire so hard you voice crack 👌
😂😂😂 This is sooooooo funny! The jousting and flip one are sooo hilarious. I’m actually crying after having watched this! 🤣🤣🤣
the 3rd umpire was crazy,"StrIIIIIIIKe ,STRIIIIIkkkkkke2,RAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"💀
2:50...what in the hell is she swinging at
shes a girl what do you expect
uh oh, here come the triggered feminists
DID YOU JUST ASSUME MY GENDER?????? TRIGGERED!!!!!!!!!!!

0:12 - incredible Adam Sandler impression
A lot of these look like the umps r in an anime fight😂🤪
As an umpire, this was painful to watch. There's a fine line between "fun" and unprofessional.
I'm okay with the ump being loud, clear and fun. But not humiliating let the player's play the game and encourage them to have fun and play hard Good ball
Amen brother, trying to hold my lunch as I type this. This is why they won’t even make it to heigh school level.

The one in the white pants pissed me off🤣
Are you aware that this ump ok’d it with both teams
This video makes me want to go get drunk and volunteer to be an ump
2:02 - 3:15 my favorite Umpire.

I can't what that's scene in The Naked Gun without laughing to tears.
I'd trust the guy umpiring at 0:41 umpiring over Joe West or Angel Hernandez anyday
These the umpires I want during my season coming up 🤣🤣🤣
It’s always something when you watch a baseball game and the umpire makes you have flashbacks to The Naked Gun.
00:41 he sounds like the guy that starts the intro of spongebob
3:33. I was not expecting that one 😂
The best umpires are those that are never noticed.
I play on all stars baseball and the umps like YEET and our dugouts like YEET
I've had some crazy umps but OML 😂😂😂😂😂

Who is that guy? Because if our church does another fun baseball game like a few years back I want him to ump
This is ridiculously funny! Umps can really add to the game, sometimes.
if i was batting, i wouldn't be able to stop laughing.
These guys make me cry whether it's on purpose or not😂
1:54 killed me! 🤣🤣🤣
3:39 was also funny.
3:56 came out of nowhere! 😨
5:17: *bird sound*
My favorite is the umpire that goes huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu peanut butter jelly time
Dude that runs away while calling strike outs was the best.
Frank Drebin started a phenomenon!!
When personal ego gets in the way of the game.
If a player acted like this it would be unsportsmanlike conduct
When I played little league we have ump's that were too quiet. I constantly had to ask what the count was. Then again I was that kid that only got on base by being hit or getting walked.
3:51 jajajjjajajajja xD XD xD LoL Beeest ever
The most extra umpires ever 😂
This makes me want to strike out on purpose to see what other move he has up his sleeve.
It looks like the same ump every time LOL 😂
the 2nd umpire shown is James Reese he lives in Omaha Nebraska and my father started working with him over 20 years ago and i also umpire now and i just happened to work with him last night. still going strong at 73
One of my umps would always scream YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTTT!!!!!!!!!!! for a strike xD
The last one with "Dame más gasolina" 😂
The funny yelling's great.
The guy that takes 6 steps, signals, then memes/sings some silly song or other, got old fast. lol At one point you see a camera man off to the right waiting to capture his antics. Too much.
When i was in little league in the 90s we had an ump who did the running man every time there was a strikeout.
They sound like Gandolf when he says YOU SHALL NOT PASS
LMAO THE UMP SINGING AFTER THE KID GETTING STRUCK OUT
Could watch this all day long
Hell, umpires having their time hhaa ha. Funny video.
I really don't care how they call strikes as long as they good calls
i wanna see that ump run all the way around the bases
Thanks to this video and The Cleveland Show I want to be a Home plate umpire
😂 the “gasolina” ending 🇵🇷
10 years from now umpires be hitting the woh on strike 3 calls 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The "Cant Touch This" call gets me everytime LOL
I had one of these crazy umpires once. He had the "STRIIIIIIIKE OOOOOONE" call. The base umpire wasn't so crazy, but it turned out that he was the guy in the video of the time a Mariners groundskeeper had to catch a cat - that attacked him.
For a period of time in 2009 my father's count calls for middle school games were "Boom" "Boom" "Pow"*chainsaw pull*
Everyone gangsta til the umpire goes a bloody flip
I want these umpires so badly.
I was crazy competitive as a kid and this would have pissed me off royally! I very likely would have said something to the umpire myself.
5:05 ump shouldn't be screaming/hollering when it's a ball.
Also, you don't need to go crazy when it is a swinging strike.
Our little league ump only did this if you took strikes while looking, it motivated the batters to swing more because he didn’t want to spend 9 innings watching full count at bats.

Thank you for sharing !💀💀💀😂😂😂😂😂😂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This is funny for a little bit it would get old real quick during a game.
Fantastic look by the umpire at 3:30
the one minute mark is the funniest one. one fifty is funny too. but these umps call three feet off the zone a strike
It reminds me of Kent Murphy teaching us how to "ring up these s**tbags" as an ump.
0:27 why does it look like the batter is standing about 3" below ground level?
i laughed my head off that is a big LOL!
You should do a craziest broadcast reactions.
