God That would not be strictly enforced in such a situation. Of course, in an instance like these, the best advice a player could give would be to wait for the trainer.
definitely give credit to the ump at 7:00 being able to walk away from that. I played catcher in high school and had a pitch skip off the plate and catch me in the throat. I passed out in about 10 seconds and woke up in the back of an ambulance outside the field with a flashlight in my face. Props to him even being able to stand.
@@Religious_man - lol your comment was from a year ago. Anyway, they were talking about exaggeration of injuries in modern sports. And then you come in talking about tornadoes
I got hit by an 84-86 mph pitch in the rib cage, and it killed. I can't begin to imagine a line drive from an mlb player, off an mlb pitcher, in the ribs. Damn
Riley Anderson the one he hit was probably ~108 mph lol I'm talking about how you got beamed ~85 mph I'm saying imagine if the one you got hit by was~95 lol
+Foodlover11 Oh well yeah. And it's hard to tell how hard it was hit but yeah I'd say high 90s at a minimum lol. So yeah around 100-110 maybe but yeah damn.
With that Greg Gibson guy, I'd say he was lucky that was so close to his orbital bone, that could have shattered back into his head and caused bleeding in the brain
Br Valio ur so imature i mean he was gine so thank goodness because he could have been seriously hurt fu i mean u would have the same reaction and plus that is a ball moving at nearly 100 mph hitting you SHAME ON YOU
i've gotten hit by a fastpitch softball as a catcher in spots without protection and even at 50-60 mph with a BIGGER impact area, that pain is incredible. i can only imagine a major league baseball pitch would be unreal pain
The first one was very painful to watch, its gotta hurt! It also seemed like the shock from the impact caused temporary paralysis of the umpires left leg. The second guy, who replaced the first guy was far more dangerous. Hits to the throat have been known to collapse the trachea which can lead to a quick and painful fatality. The others left a nice battle scar and some nasty bruises. I'm glad that everyone was ok. I guess its more dangerous to be an umpire than one might think!
i slipped on icy stairs years ago and landed directly on my kneecap, with the force of all my weight...ive broken my shoulder, shin and fingers..NONE were as painful as when i broke my kneecap..the first 3 nights was a constant knifepain right in my knee, nothing helped thr pain
Someone make a meme of that. *Play of the Game* *Joe West as First Base Umpire* -Shoots fucking lasers out of his eyes as he flexes and destroys the fucking planet-
at the three minute mark, all i can think of is that song "boot to the head". in all seriousness, this video proves that you can injured just being on the field.
So basically the Angels and Mets are bad luck for umpires. Also find it ironic that Manny was there for an umpire being down and ended up being the umpire that went down in two separate occurances. Also that ump getting drilled in the arm but just brushing it off...legend
Every plate umpire should wear as much protective gear as is available. 46 years ago I saw a plate umpire get hit square in the scrod sack when our catcher moved away from behind the plate attempting to catch a fastball and throw out a player trying to steal second base. I was in center field and heard the thump and the groan as if I was right there. He was taken to the hospital. He was not wearing a cup.
"got hit in the knee by a fast ball. brings towel to help."
Frank Castle Bringing a hello kitty band aid to a bullet wound.
Frank Castle I think they might have thought that there was blood as they thought he was hit in the face.
Frank Castle rofl i like how none of the players did anything its just umpires run in 😂
Dane M Players cannot be in contact with Umpires no matter what

The umpire at 8:55 is a badass! And he was so proud and honored that he got a cheer from the crowd!
Everybody hates that guy
i dont hate joe west
You either respect him or hate him! Lol this was the better side of Joe West!
Handled that baseball like a boss! :D
I bet he was hurting tho.
It'd be funny if it were the same umpire the whole video
A.J. Vasquez so like Scott sterling?
A.J. Vasquez 😂

This is unrelated, but why for they always spin around after being hit?
Hahaha ur so cruel for.thinking that
Greg Gibson the homeplate umpire motioning to both paramedics

My favorite part is during the Mets game "strike 1 pitch in there for a strike"
I guess Greg Gibson the home plate umpire wasn't motioned to by both players.
If this was soccer they would've been put on a stretcher and carted off the field
If this was basketball they'd need a quadruple bypass.
If one got hit by something thrown by a tornado or tropical storm, he would be dead on the spot.

That Umpire who got right on the wind pipe. OW!!

imagine one going 94-96. Ouch.
+Foodlover11 that's what I'm saying. The ball was more than likely hit at that speed and I can't imagine how bad it hurt lol.

Sports Factor Robinson.... nice catch for out #1!

Ik i heard that too
Well y'know, they got those sharp teeth.
Why would the announcer even say that about the hospital? Lol.
People say that, it's really common. They know it's a sting.
it depends, hornets & wasps sting and bee's bite.
Greg Gibson the homeplate umpire

Motioning to both players
And the Dodgers are celebrating in their dugout

Looks like Greg Gibson the home plate umpire won't be motioning for awhile.
Lmao
He needs a wizard from the future and/or a real doctor to help him
remember when that ump pooped his paints
This is really great after watching an hour and a half of Umps ejecting players.
Real original intro.

OMG! The force that ball had and the effect it had on that large man, geez.

lmfao at the last clip with the announcers shitting on the Ump for not getting out of the way
These are gut wrenching. I hate seeing people hurt, especially older people.
So that was the legendary Greg Gibson everybodys talkin about

A lot of times I see umpires being jackasses and being unbelievably unfair with balls and strikes. And then I see videos like these and feel better.
The first two were both with the angels
I vaguely remember Bruce Froemming getting his forearm broken by a pitch and continuing to call the game, years ago.
Greg Gibson the home plate umpire motions to both players
yeah, gotta look out for those venomous baseballs
Greg Gibson will likely never take off his face mask when the ball is in play ever again. I am glad he was not seriously injured.
