    I realized the area between Pomona and Covina is the perfect testing grounds for the new locomotives, since it's a relatively high-speed section on a grade. The train traveling from Covina to Pomona will test for power and acceleration as it brings the train up to speed going uphill, whereas the train traveling from Pomona to Covina will test its braking capabilities.

    If you look very closely within the Bombardier Cabs within the Test Train, you may be able to notice that one of them is 617, which was the unit involved in the Chatsworth Collision.

      So? There are still a lot of people out there who think it was actually scrapped.
      Also, ever since I first posted that comment, 617 actually has been sent out for rebuild, and once it comes back, then seeing it will be a normal thing again and people will finally realize with certainty that it's still around.

    It is gonna be sad to say goodbye to the f59s. I grew up seeing those engines go by when I lived in Covina. I've rode metrolink several times just to get to Covina to visit my grandmother after i moved to Riverside. It's indeed The end of an era of the f59s.

EMD went back to making their "J" engine (formerly the failed "H" engine) with I believe 4,600hp using 4 fewer pistons. If they'd just waited another couple of years, these might have been "genuine" EMDs.

    It makes sense really. All the Bombardier cars are old cab cars, and since they are not in revenue service anymore, might as well give them something to do before they are sold and scrapped. Throw a bunch of non-revenue cars on the back, so revenue services aren’t disrupted, and at the same time stress test the engine.
    As for the horn, has Metrolink ever really been correct or consistent at all? I mean, they have only been consistent in their inconsistency, why change now? :P

      I'm not a fan of the design either, to me it looks top heavy and too long. Perhaps this had something to do with safety improvements.

    • @rowancollins9558
      @rowancollins9558 7 лет назад

      Trains78sAndMore very possible safety improvements was the key too design but look at the stuff Amtrak wanted, stayed that could physically lift them up and we got the iconic AEM-7 and F40ph and some other cool things like the P30

      Benjamin King yes but the PHI is only about 20 years old and not many modern passenger railroads take good are of there stuff, not Amtrak and Metrolink either, though they do a bit of a better job. But these aren’t even mechanically sound. The big unveiling party of the locomotive broke down half way on its journey and they have done it a good number of times to where it could be deemed “unreliable”.
