This album was voted by Rolling Stone magazine, one of the 50 best concept albums of all time. A pure disco opera which is a retelling of Cinderella story (can also be interpreted as Donna's own story) in modern days in four acts. It's unique, you never heard and will never hear anything like it. It's a massive production with superb synthesizer work, omnipresent back up singers, perfect arrangements and, of course, showcasing Donna's beautiful larger than life voice and her stunning vocal range throughout the songs. The whole thing is mixed to perfection. Although every track is brilliant the one that stands out in my opinion is "Now I need you", featuring an impressive choir, epic arrangements (the reverberating synthesizer effects...wow!) leading to those last two minutes outro...EPIC! You will also hear classic dance tracks (acts 1 and 4), soulful ballads (such as the beautiful "A Man Like You") and futuristic electronic tracks (act 2). Her masterpiece with 'Bad Girls' album right behind it! Donna was categorised as a disco singer but she could sing anything: Ballads, rock, country, r&b....
THIS AMAZING JOURNEY OF AN ALBUM WAS RELEASED 46 YEARS AGO TODAY, ON OCTOBER 31, 1977. I was 8 when this was released and I LOOOOOVED it so much as a kid.......I am now 54 years old and it remains MY ALL TIME FAVORITE DISCO LP AND MY ALL TIME FAVORITE DONNA SUMMER LP!!! WOW WOW WOW!!!!!! If I was only allowed to own one LP., THIS WOULD BE IT!! SO AMAZING!!!!!!!

I have had this CD for years but have not listened to it in a long while. What a masterpiece. That was a wonderful period for music and Donna was truly more than the Queen of Disco. God Bless her. She is missed.

I sailed from Germany to New York on the "MIKHAIL LERMONTOV" in 1979. On board we had 3 channel radio - and was woken up daily to Donna Summer´s song >Now I Need You< in the cabin. I then bought the album in Germany - the prices for records in New York were very, very high.
42 Years ago this week, the same week as The Queen's Birthday, this LP was spending it's 3rd consecutive week at the top of Billboard's Disco Chart!!! Happy Anniversary to the BEST DISCO LP ever made and MY ALL TIME FAVORITE Donna Lp and HAPPY BIRTHDAY IN HEAVEN!!! LONG LIVE OUR QUEEN!!!!
The last two minutes of Now I Need You are just MINDBLOWING. This song should have been one of the MAIN focal points of this MAGNIFICENT LP. It reminds me so much of I Feel Love in its futuristic sound.

I've had this album for years, but just this week I realized how transformative it really is! The singing is superb of course, the production and mixing is perfection, the storyline is worthy of a 🎥 at the very least an anime series. I'd be happy to join that endeavor. This album is a foundational pillar for today's dance music, 43 years old and still sounds revelatory! Very few have achieved that feat. Why did I never see this as the expansive concept album that it is?😔. Enough, 2021 is the year Once Upon A Time enters Heavy, I mean daily rotation!

As far as the electronic material Donna/Giorgio/Pete did, while "I Feel Love" gets all the notice, side two of this album - plus side four of BAD GIRLS - brings it to another level. Brilliance.

Act 2 on Donna Summer "Once Upon A Time", is some of her best work. It was superbly mixed, and smoothly blended. It has outstanding vocals, the each song touches on what my life was like as a young man in the Disco Era. Outstanding and still sounding fresh in 2017!

I was a student in upstate NH college. Somehow the library technically was able then to play selected music into tinny headphones. I had the LP but I was hooked. Now I listen to it on my tinny sounding I phone speaker. I am bed written It is what it is.

Just found out he was! Some of his music is closest to Krafterk. I feel love has that Kraftwerk feel and subtleties.
