Thank you! 😁 Some of the descents in Big Sur have ropes on the small dirt/rock trails because of how incredibly steep they are so at least it wasn’t that!
5:25 Hello there! I have the same gun and noticed that the loading of the bands can affect the shot. You can try loading first the far bands and then the inner ones in a more behind position. That way it improves (in my opinion) hydrodynamics of the gun, as well as better alignment to the gun barrel and power transfer ;) Cheers!
I load first the band that is at the end of the gun to the middle sharkfin, and then the other band in the last sharkfin towards me. This gun has strong kickback so need to have always a very tight grip, I 've also lost fish in impossible ways XD
You guys using rope float lines or vinyl cause I use my own homemade vinyl one and I rarely have issues getting tangled because it Doesn’t bend and loop around
You guys ended up a little cold by the end. I surf in a 4/3, but what mm do you recommend for all season diving in NorCal? Thinking about giving it a try sometme soon.
Love the video; Hey what backpack float is that? P.S. do some spearing north near pebble beach. theres a small area between the underwater sanctuaries; lots of seals though.. prob a few whites too... but amazing shooting.
Bro love’n the footage & info! my buddy and I use to dive for Abalone way back when but since its now illegal we been dry docked. We actually got spear gun to give it a shot but life seems to get in the way. Would love to hook up some day and learn from you.
If you run a short bungee with a kelp clip attached to your float, you can avoid the constant kelp tangle/snagging in the kelp. Then on your gun, run the same float line with a kelp snake float on the end. This will allow you to still keep track of your buddy via the float lines. Then when you want to move to a new spot, you just unclip from the kelp and you can swim right over the top of it with your banksboard.
Have dove the north coast from big sir to albian for years. Back in the day when you could have a tank in the boat. Inflatable to get there and a tube with a 25 ft anchor.Free dive for abs then tank for ling cod blues vermellion. But that was long ago no tanks in the boat when taking abalone but you can’t take them at all now. Got bored with a spear gun and started using a 7 ft pole spear with a paralizer tip. Much more fun
@@HideshiIzu I'd say experienced. I mostly spearfished in the med and atlantic, but I had some rockfish, calico bass and goats in the last 2 years since I moved to this side of the world
@@HideshiIzu they're wetsuits with inner linings which decreases water flowing into the suit... I use Aqualung Solafx but every manufacturer pretty much makes one
im new to spearfishing, live in Canada and will be doing it while on vac in the caribbean every 3 minths in open sand beach/reefs. Debating on getting a pathos laser carbon roller vs rob allen timberline roller…whichbone would u recommend and why? Thx
Personally I find no difference in carbon guns in the water. If you plan really long hikes then I guess the lighter weight might be worth it. Other than that they perform almost exactly the same with each having their own variability, biggest difference is the price. Look on NOOTICA for discounted gear!
Nice! I went out today and the water was pretty bad. Tons of opal eye and perch, I saw a white sea bass but it was the tail end darting from me 😭. Ended up with a nice sheepshead though.
Your commentary is the best! Waiting for the perfect shot when the good shot will work...that is all of us.
Thanks man!
Wow that viz is unreal!! Looks like you scored an awesome day
Kelp anchors are your best friend when using a float in the kelp. And then just keeping your float line free with a kelp carrot on the end
I’ll give that a shot!
That’s what Ive been doing since the 90’s, by myself free diving or tie off on random kelp tops in rough shoreline. Never had a problem.
So spearfishing gets you around the 50 fathom rule in CA? Never thought about that as an option… amazing video!
And shore fishing year round.
Hi man, cool video. What gun length do you recomend for shooting in kelp and a bit rock reef. Mostly in 10 meters depth
Keep up the great work on the vids! Such a crazy cliff to get down with carrying all your stuff 😮 and that rock pool entrance was so pretty 🤩

So load the rolling band or the kicker first??

Did I miss the seabass? Just watched your video twice...

Awesome idea. I will look into it Matt! That sounds way easier for kelp.
I second this idea. Bring a small secondary line to tie off Gently on the kelp or your buddies float 😁
what was the water temp that day?
This spot looks epic
QUALITY. Keep it up.
Incredible underwater footage. Might have to give the kayak a break get me some spearfishing gear.
Thanks man! I work hard on the editing! You kayak fish a lot?

Scuba definitely makes it easier!
Great video and an amazing location. Do you guys ever take strangers with you in the water?
Experienced or inexperienced?

@@HideshiIzu Thank you!
What is the float you guys are using? Thanks.
Great video brother.
Glad you enjoyed it!
great vid loved the 4k quality, subbed
Thanks!
5mm suits...
We wear 7mm semi-dry wetsuits or a 7mm wetsuit plus a hooded vest to scuba dive in Monterey and STILL get cold
😂
Semi-dry wetsuits? What do you mean?

Nice video.. exactly were is this spot ? Pfeiffer beach?
California for sure! More specific than that I don’t usually say but you should have enough to work with!

@@HideshiIzu nice!
Idk if anyone has said this but just use the float line with nothing on the end it won’t snag
Epic Video
Thank you! Takes a lot of editing time!
Hey great vis
Hey man, what size gun do you run?
55cm! Wish I could go shorter but then the band thickness would just be huge!

Nice dude! Conditions were rough? Hey, its always fun to be out there!
Great videos they’ve gotten me to go spear around Carmel and Monterey a lot more recently
Thank you! Yes, its an amazing place to dive!
