I have always been fascinated with the ‘post train’ as I call it, I think it is very unique, the fact it sounds and is basically a 319 and has a networker cab and front. I get to see it almost daily and it’s always a nice sight, the big crimson machine.
Contrary to the stories of the demise of the mail train Royal Mail are opening a new rail head at DIRFT near J18 of the M1 at Crick. The new, bigger, National Distribution Centre will have a rail head. The railway is currently under construction with embankments and a new bridge over the A5 to run into the new NDC in 2023.
It’ll go full circle. When I started in 95 the TPO was running,up until 2004. It kinda went abit to pot after that 😔😔. I for one will be glad to see it back in some capacity,as the senior men (40 yrs +) say ‘the good old days’
Yes I drive to and from NDC regularly and I’ve seen the new complex it’s huge. With a direct link to the WCML I believe the North West and Scotland will be first to benefit from the rail link? As it expands RM can downscale it’s hiring of trailers and units and any surplus can be diverted to the Amazon contract.

I love the Royal mail train still 2 this day, it’s the only full-fledged mail train I know about still in active service.

It was cos there is a mock cab made and that was the first as I understood it was in nrm at one point not I think it's at the nvr but not sure

In fact the company I work for are doing the bogies overhauls for the 325 units to keep them running
