  • Garmin Catalyst: Don Kitch & Ross Bentley Review & Discussion
Most of you know that I was involved in the development of the Garmin Catalyst (hint: some of the confirming feedback it provides is based on my coaching; the Optimal video lap is something I asked for...). A while ago, I got together with my friend Don Kitch from @proformanceracingschool - we tested it, had some fun with it, and then talked about what we like most about it. Oh, and this video was put together...

How come it doesn’t have obd2 integration? Complete failure for a device like this…

The Catalyst is a tool to help drivers improve their driving, not the car. It doesn’t need OBD2 to do that.

@@Speedsecrets1 so being able to see throttle input and brake input wouldn't be useful? and sure its to improve driving, but being able to monitor some car metrics would be nice still to not have to have 17 different devices to setup before heading out to a lapping session

@@boblast5582 Are you tenths off the potential of the car, or seconds? If it's the former, throttle position and brake pressure come in very handy. If it's the latter, that level of detail just adds complexity.

@@slack3001 everyone starts with seconds and works down to tenths… so after spending 1k on this I gotta buy a different thing as I become a better driver? And beyond that, obd data is good for more than just driving, could be used to help diagnose the something went wrong with the car, help keep track of temps and stuff to make sure you’re not over heating, etc. any way you slice it missing obd2 integration on this is a fail.
