This company released ‘Shrek 2’ and ‘Shark Tale’ in the same year (I like both movies, but I know that is an unpopular opinion). This company has also released masterpieces like ‘Megamind’ and disgraces like ‘Turbo’. They fluxuate in quality. However, when DreamWorks movies are good, they are usually very good.
For reference a writers strike was going on during the production of Kung Fu panda 4 which is why there is almost no plot. The bulk of the story was created by the animators (who were then promptly fired)
@@skelet8337Its a thing that always happens n the animating industry, they are HEAVILY OVERWORKED, 95% of them cant even live off of animating, the studios says you're easily replaced, and worst off all, they always fire animators RIGHT after the ene of the production (depending on the movie) right before it does well just to avoid giving them a bonus
Eh, with DreamWorks’ inconsistency, I’d say their experimentation can be a good thing, as it can show that when the company cooks, then they *cook* with these films, ya know? 😁👍
Fun Fact: You remember that whole part about the wild robot's great writing? Yeah, well that would actually be on the works of Peter Brown: a children's storywriter who wrote the original books of The Wild Robot, The Wild Robot Escapes, and The Wild Robot Protects.
Inconsistency has always been Dreamwork's quality. Remember how they once went from Antz to The Prince of Egypt? If anything, that's their main appeal, because you never know what you'll get.
I think what it is, is that they make the safer and more marketable movies to make money so they can actually fund the better movies. Unfortunately as much as people say they want original and new things, usually they end up going to watch the safer films in theaters, especially with how expensive it can be to go to the movies. So, they make the stuff that appeals to the common denominator, make as much money from that as they can, then use that money to make the more risky and experimental films.
What I love about DreamWorks is that they focus on innovation and storytelling rather than pushing an agenda. Whether their films succeed or not, I give them credit for taking risks and exploring fresh ideas-something that is lacking in the film industry today.
Dreamworks' inconsistency is why I was (nearly) perfectly satisfied after watching Ruby Gillman, since after having watched two masterpieces of animation I doubted they had the capability to follow up that streak with a third, so I rightly set my expectations lower. At worst I'd have my expectations met but at best they'd be far and away surpassed, either way I'd be thoroughly entertained.
Great video as always! I‘ll say that dreamworks (and pixar to an extent) are inconsistent in terms of quality. Some are really great (Like HOTRD or Kung Fu Panda 1 & 2) But some are mediocre (Like Kung Fu Panda 4 or Trolls 3). “Beware of the person who stabs you and tells the world they are the one whos bleeding” - Jill Blakeway
I’d say Blue Sky Studios (despite not being mentioned) is also inconsistent as well prior to Disney buying them. It’s usual on there sequels of Ice Age, and Rio 2.
Despite being inconsistent, you can always sort of tell which upcoming Dreamworks film will either be good or bad. The first trailer of Wild Robot already proved it would be a masterpiece

I hate it too, but honestly if it gives them the budget and ability to make movies like The Last Wish and the Wild Robot, that makes me hate it a bit less.
I personally thought it was them making some movies as low-effort money makers and then spending that money on passion projects. That's how I felt about Sony making the emoji movie - one giant sponsorship that probably make a lot of money in advertising alone and then spiderverse - a beautiful art piece filled with love from the creators
Was anyone else seeing the connections for wild robot being a movie about neurodivergent parents and disable children? Like that it was against “usual” programming and bright bill was smaller and wound not have survived without help from his mum. Plus all the stuff about instincts just set all this off for me
Inconsistency has been Dreamworks's motus apparundi since their inception. Their very first movie was Antz, and then immediately after we got The Prince Of Egypt, and then The Road To El Dorado.

4:41 When you compare Dreamworks’ strategy to Pixar, I assume you’re talking about their post-2009 strategy. From Toy Story to Up, they only had 1 sequel.
Bruh so why berserk 2016 was bad, while berserk manga is peak? If that had been a peak book ( I have not read it before), it would have not meant easy for them to convert it. Because you have to keep the quality of the film the same as the book, while adding some changes to make it more perfect.
As someone who read the books first, I love hoe they turned it into a movie! I first read it with my family in grade school and than watched it with my family as well and we all loved it! it differently made us all cry haha
the thing is that when the kids grow up they're def gonna re watch it and even tell their familiy about it but the same cant be said with disney anymore ,the kids that like watching it will eventally grow up and they will change , ALOT
That's DreamWorks for ya they are always all over the place and ironically their inconsistency is the reason they are not in a shithole and stagnation like Disney is in now they always willing to take risks!
THANK YOU! DW's fandom is kinda wishy-washy, like when they make one great film, it cancels out everything else. Disney fans are the reverse with Disney's failures, as if they can't bounce back.
The Wild Robot is literally 1:1 with The Wild Robot book, which I read :). It's so cool for DreamWorks actually following through with everything that goes on in a physical book
There is something very refreshing with DreamWorks by being inconsistent, a sort of decorporatization in a industry that sometimes feels like it's more assembly line than art. It's a willingness to not make every product maximally effective that allows the studio to produce some of the strongest original franchises in recent years (in comparison to studios like Pixar or illumination)
I agree that DreamWorks is definitely one of the more creative animation studios. While I enjoyed The Wild Robot, I wouldn’t call it a masterpiece or the best animated movie of the year. For me Inside Out 2 is better. As for DreamWorks recent films, I really liked The Bad Guys, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, and Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken, I thought Trolls Band Together was mid, and I hated Kung Fu Panda 4.
I feel like it's because of the animation style. The more well-received DreamWorks movies use the stylized animation style while the more poorly received ones use the CG animation style.
I don’t think that’s accurate cuz their original hits like panda, ahrek and dragon were classic cg animation and prince of Egypt was a Disney esque animation. It’s literally a flip of the coin.
This stylized animation style trend started off in 2018 with Spiderverse which really wasn't that long ago, lumping the entire studio for this reason is dumb lol
@@bellssbasement No it started with The Peanuts Movie in 2015 and Captain Underpants used the style before Spider-Verse. The problem is that people ignore The Peanuts Movie for whatever reason (same with Captain Underpants) which is why they act like Spider-Verse was the first one.
Because the studio has separate teams that work on different films at the same time - there is little overlap in the story/edit departments which are essential to making good films.
I say 2024 was an okay year for Dreamworks, both Orion and the wild robot showed they can still make great original movies. However, Kung Fu Panda 4 shows maybe they should set back from making sub par sequels. As for their television banner even if it doesn't count, it's been noticeable how that group prefers quantity over quality on top of the division being dismantled to make room for producing a gabby's dollhouse movie.
I listened to both the wild robot movies whenever I was littleler and whenever I seen this coming out I was so excited cuz those were probably my favorite books I’ve ever read/listened to and then I went and watched it,and it was amazing. W movie overall

This company has also released masterpieces like ‘Megamind’ and disgraces like ‘Turbo’. They fluxuate in quality. However, when DreamWorks movies are good, they are usually very good.

At least Disney managed to rebound, Dream Works are not doing so good, only 4 penguins can save them now
I hope skipper and his crew can save the day!
More like 4 penguins and an orange snail
KOWALSKI!!! ANALYSIS!!!
Omg, I missed the Penguins. It's been 10 years since we last saw them.
Do u mean the penguins of Madagascar 2 or Madagascar 4 (for me anyone is fine)
Despite being inconsistent, you can always sort of tell which upcoming Dreamworks film will either be good or bad. The first trailer of Wild Robot already proved it would be a masterpiece
It was *beautiful* I loved it

I hate how they keep milking the Kung Fu Panda movies. Kung Fu Panda peaked at the second movie and it keeps going downhill from there.
I hate it too, but honestly if it gives them the budget and ability to make movies like The Last Wish and the Wild Robot, that makes me hate it a bit less.
Kung Fu Panada
@@jupiter776 lol I didn't notice my spelling error until you pointed it out 😅
I personally thought it was them making some movies as low-effort money makers and then spending that money on passion projects.
Plus all the stuff about instincts just set all this off for me
Think they fired a lot of people who worked on "The wild Robot". Thought they were gonna outsource a lot overseas.
Inconsistency has been Dreamworks's motus apparundi since their inception. Their very first movie was Antz, and then immediately after we got The Prince Of Egypt, and then The Road To El Dorado.

Dreamworks isn't inconsistent, they just hide their true power from the competition by making mid films every once in a while
😂😂😂
4:41 When you compare Dreamworks’ strategy to Pixar, I assume you’re talking about their post-2009 strategy. From Toy Story to Up, they only had 1 sequel.
I actually read both "The Wild Robot" books when I was around 10, I'm so glad the movie did them justice.
the only reason wild robot is peak is because it's based on a peak book. (i was literally obsessed with that book when i was younger)
Because they either wanna be mid or peak, its just that crazy.
the thing is that when the kids grow up they're def gonna re watch it and even tell their familiy about it but the same cant be said with disney anymore ,the kids that like watching it will eventally grow up and they will change , ALOT

The Wild Robot is literally 1:1 with The Wild Robot book, which I read :). It's so cool for DreamWorks actually following through with everything that goes on in a physical book

Best movie of the year by far, my absolute all time fav
I remember reading the book when I was younger and now that I see the movie, I’m so satisfied that dreamworks was able to do the book justice.
Not really. Main Kung Fu panda trilogy is a hit and a masterpiece, and CGI looks beautiful in this whole franchise

8:46 Amphibia?
Ya'll forgetting one feature every Studio has
They'll can release both good and bad movies
I cried like 4 times watching the wild robot, it's such a good movie and book and I would say this is probably my favourite movie of all time.
I WILL NEVER FORGET SHARK TALE
Because the studio has separate teams that work on different films at the same time - there is little overlap in the story/edit departments which are essential to making good films.
I wonder when ratatouille 2 will release, you can never tell the future
Rata2ee
this time we would have a spider cooking
Oh hell no don’t give them ideas
They just set the bar so low that the movie after the bad seems extremely good
I say 2024 was an okay year for Dreamworks, both Orion and the wild robot showed they can still make great original movies. However, Kung Fu Panda 4 shows maybe they should set back from making sub par sequels. As for their television banner even if it doesn't count, it's been noticeable how that group prefers quantity over quality on top of the division being dismantled to make room for producing a gabby's dollhouse movie.
What’s even the point of that Gaby Dollhouse movie that’s coming, besides making toys of the characters?
I listened to both the wild robot movies whenever I was littleler and whenever I seen this coming out I was so excited cuz those were probably my favorite books I’ve ever read/listened to and then I went and watched it,and it was amazing. W movie overall
Others are either Disney, DC or Marvel kids. I was a DreamWorks kid, Freamwo went from failure then instantly back to peak, how tf!?
SHARKTALE WAS PEAK, DON'T DISS ON IT
Plot twist: The peak movies just absorb the budget from the surrounding bad ones
