The greatest thing about this movie was that it was based on an actual mission. I served in the Navy and there are just a very chosen few that are given the honor to serve as SEALS. Much respect to the real life men that accomplished this mission.

In this small segment of the film you have music from Hans Zimmer, Lisa Gerrard, Lebo M, and Steve Jablonsky. Literally a combination of The Lion King, Gladiator, and Avatar. It's such an amazing piece of music, its a shame they didn't utilize it more like they did with the scene in Platoon. No words, no sound effects, just the music telling the story.
this movie started out so cheesy that i nearly gave up on it. glad i kept watching though because it just got better and better. by the end it was so intense that i was totally riveted. that final firefight was an underappreciated feat of filmmaking... so chaotic and yet you never lose track of what's going on. honestly i feel like this is one of the last vestiges of american military patriotism in film. and i kinda love that they fake you out a bit, making you think it's gonna be some sappy love story between monica bellucci's character and bruce willis's. and while the chemistry is definitely there, it turns out the story was actually about the tribal king of ibo getting across the border to unite his people and save his home.
When I was in the Army, "danger close" was a phrase NOBODY ever wanted to use, especially with aerial delivered weapons. At a time like that, you can pretty much assume you're going to be knocking on heaven's door any moment

What I've learned from this scene: -Fire all together in an arch upward to something you can't see. -Air to air missiles turn in to bombs in a split second. -Helicopters can pop up out of nowhere.

I just created a very sick similar scenario in Arma 3 game lol. Me and my Army pals got overrun like CRAZY ( Didn't even expect the A.I to be THIS aggressive when I finished creating the mission )! It was totally unexpected and we had to hold out for at least 5 minutes until a squadrons of A-10s & Apache helicopters came to bail us out!! I tell ya.....the sound of those birds engines finally coming to the rescue right when you're about to become cooked alive is the BEST feeling in the world! My God....I didn't expect that mission to be as dramatic and fun as the movie lol! And yes, an Epic emotional song was playing at the same time! It fit the scenario hands down! Arma 3 for the win! Can't wait to create more awesome sick missions!

Most of the missions I create ALWAYS end up being a bigger blast than I anticipated. For instant, I just finished playing a Air Raid mission at night that I created. Dozens of Squadrons ( 2 seats and I played as the gunner while my AI partner piloted the jet 🤗 ) F 18s against a 100s of Technical enemies. This battle Air Raid was more intense and scary than Modern Warfare at this point lol. Not an easy mission either! Regardless, yes! This game is basically everything depending on your playstyle = )! But still mostly realistic no matter what! Fucking love it!
That is the worst noise I will ever hear, watch a doc of the Falklands conflict, the noise of those jets gets inside u , doesn't leave ...wait I wasnt there, but that's the best representation of it when u hear it up close, it's not a roar it's a shrill almost like a made up noise , they just dont use the noise for some reason
My husband a veteran of the South African National defense forces always saw this movie as something he saw played out in real time. He was part of UN peacekeeping forces in the Congo a few years ago. I can still see it in his face

Every time I watch this scene after Bruce Willis says to "let er rip danger close" and it shows the one pilot flipping the switch to arm his missiles and that song plays I get a cold chill

@@LtActionCam Not sure what you mean by "plan talk". Comms are usually brief, precise and to the point. No extra chit chat on a mission channel. Especially if they are not on secure comms. Every transmission in the "open" is information to the enemy, including calling each other by real name, targets by location or familiar names, types of weapons you are using or even what kind of aircraft or squadron or ship you are from. Code for everything, make the enemy work for his intel.
Would have been slightly more badass if they had used the A-10's gatling, that sound plus the just wave of heavy calibre rounds impacting in a line would have been not only more realistic, but far more haunting of that aircraft's incredible power.
Like Adrian mentioned, the A-10 will be too slow for such urgent situation. They will be toasted by those nigerian troops before the A10 would have even reached halfway
The soundtrack to this movie helped make this a masterpiece. I always believe that a movie, even a bad one, can be redeemed with good music. No absolute shit movie had anything decent music wise. This movie wasn't bad in any way and the music reflected everything this movie represented. Obviously it's a movie so a lot of things could've been done better without the need for movie magic, but it's still amazingly well done.

Harm missiles are used against radar installations. I’m guessing in the scene where the pilot arms his payload (switch says “missile arm”) people mistake that as “missile harm”. The payload dropped in the scene is absolutely Willy Pete or White Phosphorus.
Lol no! Danger close is in less than 600m iirc, not 100m away. That call would be suicidal and they could be killed easily by the explosion or just the side effect of the explosion ( the shockwave)

Doesn't really pack a lot of punch, because breaking a radar dish isn't that hard. Mostly just fuel so it can burn its engine long and hard. There have been other anti-radiation missiles before it, like the Shrike. The idea of the HARM is that while it can obviously be used for deliberate SEAD missions to take out air defense, it can also function as a sort of active counter-measure to SAM's. The "high speed" component means that an aircraft which has been fired on by a SAM can counter-fire with a HARM, and the HARM will arrive at the SAM's fire control radar before the SAM arrives at the targeted aircraft, rendering the incoming missile aimless.

This movie is underrated!! It touches the heart and soul of Mankind, steeped in hatred, true in Humanity.
Bruce Willis has made 1000 action movies, but he's at his best when mixing action with HONOR.
The SEALS stopping to put an end to the ethnic cleansing in that village was immensely powerful. You're not human if that scene didn't get to you.

Every time I watch this scene after Bruce Willis says to "let er rip danger close" and it shows the one pilot flipping the switch to arm his missiles and that song plays I get a cold chill
You know what ...i think the message this movie sent is that no matter the position your in put your human responsability your human believe and your human concern above anything in life ...this is what happened when the lieutenant went back after seeing his camarades faces .. just awesome movie

Anthony Miller Maybe you guys don't travel much, but it does mean something you morons. A U.S. passport can get you into most every country easily along with maybe a dozen others. This isn't true for the majority of countries.

@@taoliu3949 Not in combat. If anything they are called by their "call sign" if they are squadron mates or by their mission designator if being called in by ground forces or AWACS. The likely-hood of the guy on the ground knowing personally who is on station for CAS is really low. USN 1988-2008.

@@LtActionCam Not sure what you mean by "plan talk". Comms are usually brief, precise and to the point. No extra chit chat on a mission channel. Especially if they are not on secure comms. Every transmission in the "open" is information to the enemy, including calling each other by real name, targets by location or familiar names, types of weapons you are using or even what kind of aircraft or squadron or ship you are from. Code for everything, make the enemy work for his intel.

Would have been slightly more badass if they had used the A-10's gatling, that sound plus the just wave of heavy calibre rounds impacting in a line would have been not only more realistic, but far more haunting of that aircraft's incredible power.

A10s don't fly from carriers, and besides, a10s wouldn't make it in time, they don't fly as fast as the f18s.
Like Adrian mentioned, the A-10 will be too slow for such urgent situation. They will be toasted by those nigerian troops before the A10 would have even reached halfway

The soundtrack to this movie helped make this a masterpiece. I always believe that a movie, even a bad one, can be redeemed with good music. No absolute shit movie had anything decent music wise. This movie wasn't bad in any way and the music reflected everything this movie represented.
Obviously it's a movie so a lot of things could've been done better without the need for movie magic, but it's still amazingly well done.
F-18's arrive and it's....C-YA bad guys. That entire end battle scene was terrific.

A Very Under-Rated Film, I remember thinking that after I 1st watched it and still do. Not a Epic but I was expecting a Meh Film and it delivered more, Great Cast, Acting, Score & though the Story isn't anything new it was way btr than I expected.

Harm missiles are used against radar installations. I’m guessing in the scene where the pilot arms his payload (switch says “missile arm”) people mistake that as “missile harm”. The payload dropped in the scene is absolutely Willy Pete or White Phosphorus.
I like how he hits the spin recovery switch with the clean, newly labeled "missile arm" sticker over it. haha

High-speed Anti Radiation Missile.
Basically a passive radar seeking missile. Homes in on enemy fire-control radars to disable air defense systems.
Doesn't really pack a lot of punch, because breaking a radar dish isn't that hard. Mostly just fuel so it can burn its engine long and hard. There have been other anti-radiation missiles before it, like the Shrike. The idea of the HARM is that while it can obviously be used for deliberate SEAD missions to take out air defense, it can also function as a sort of active counter-measure to SAM's. The "high speed" component means that an aircraft which has been fired on by a SAM can counter-fire with a HARM, and the HARM will arrive at the SAM's fire control radar before the SAM arrives at the targeted aircraft, rendering the incoming missile aimless.
This movie made me so emotional. The sad thing is things like this did happen. But, it's a good movie.
