Sorry for the late reply they are a lot more now. At first the entry level one was going to be 1,600 now they are much, much more like over 10 grand now from the looks of it. They are being sold as part of a marketing solution.
I only came here because someone wrote a saddening piece on NHS and nurse care in the FT today, things are not functioning so well basically. He welcomes robots to take care of patients with dementia as the current caregivers seem pretty careless. Having worked in that area I know too well all that he mentioned, though it's probably easier to incentives the caregivers to give a better treatment. For instance don't allow double-shifts unless absolutely necessary, give classes on empathy, managers must look after their departments better and so on. Also, engineers, what is up with all these boy-fantasy toys? Give us something more efficient, can this robot move a little faster and clean? That'd be dope!
Lmao. When I was 12 I broke one of these when i went to Taiwan. I’m not sure what I did tbh. Me and my weird imagination decided that pepper was harassing a little girl so I started beating it up and when that didn’t work, I touched that little dot in between her eyes and it started moving it’s hands and freaking out? I was scared, but I didn’t let go and she just shut down. I’m not sure what happened but they shut down the area where pepper was located.
More junk why can’t they achieve a more realistic life size interactive robot with technology we have of today , that pepper robot has gone back to 80s a non walking statue that waves its arms! I could make that in a wkend !!
