- The Tata Sierra was Tata motors' first indigenous SUV launched in 1991.
It was a lifestyle 3-door SUV with 5 seats sold till 2003 in India. It was also exported to foreign countries till 2004 and sold in various other names such as the Telcosport, Tata Sport, Gurkha, etc.
The Sierra was based on the same X2 Body-on -frame construction as the Telcoline pickup truck and was available with the 2.0L turbo diesel engine.
Initially the Sierra was powered by a non-turbo engine which produced 70PS at Max. The turbocharged version was later introduced with Max power output of 90PS. A 5 speed manual gearbox was commonly used on all versions. There was also a 4x4 option apart from the RWD configuration.
The Sierra had some highlight features at that time period:
Hydraulic power steering
Tilt adjustable steering wheel
Central locking
Power widows
Rear AC vents
Rear dual wipers
Rear windshield defogger
Unique 3-door design
Panoramic rear windows
The New 2024 Tata Sierra will be introduced as a 5-door electric SUV while a Turbo petrol version is likely to follow later.

The then SUV in market. Very comfortable. This vehicle is well maintained, turbo version has twin warning light assembly, not customized indeed. Also the broad wheel arches are original. The negative point was getting in the back row, for the then old people found it difficult and also ladies especially. I owned a 1998 model NA model. I was using it in the hilly area. Performance was very good. The only problem I had was with the torsion bar which snapped thrice. The turbo version was very good and it was in the defence as 4 wd . It's the real SUV. Wonderful review about the well maintained iconic SUV👌👌👌👌👍🏻

Roof rail is not original and ruins the smooth flowing roofline.
There was a plastic trim underneath the front bumper and that is missing.
There was no rear spoiler even as an accessory for both normal and Turbo versions of the Sierra. There were no side steps too on either versions
There are quite a few differences between the normal Sierra and the Turbo version in the looks. Main one being the headlights and rear tail lights.
