In his later days Denny admitted that he should have accepted Cass' love for him (she adored him) and that he should have given her the love that he knew he had in his heart for her......too little, too late, but still a manly admission of having been wrong. You gotta respect that.
James Crane Jr. FozzieatDetour BillNye As a guy most people understand us as being motivated by hot chicks ( as in pretty and reasonably trim ) Obviously he was extremely appealing to the young women which we assume he replied in kind. Why on earth would he or any average guy be attracted to Mama Cass! Any guy that says he is, is a bold faced liar!
Plenty of people aren't repelled by bigger people. And personality also figures in. Cass was vibrant, soulful, funny, & wonderful. She rarely lacked for partners, but apparently carried a torch for Denny Doherty. Unrequited love can run deep. I respect him for recognizing he cld hv had a really good thing w Cass Elliott...
An absolutely wonderful musician, Still love listening to Denny and the mama's and papa's here in 2022, R I P Denny and thank you for the music and memorie's

an end to a super great era Back in the day the mama's and Papa's were a great band among many great bands and great songs, I watch as my generation is beginning to fade away and will just be recorded memories.
Hi Casswell, this is a real nice tribute to a fine man with a beautiful voice. John Phillips wrote great songs, but Denny was the fantastic tenor who will never be forgotten for singin Monday Monday, Spanish Harlem, Dancing Bear, Got a Feeling, Here in my Arms and so many other wonderful songs.
I am glad to see others whom know denny and cass carried the performances.. This truth is what has kept me up all night researching Denny Doherty, just to find out he died in 2007.
@vakantieland4 Denny Doherty and Cass Elliot were indeed the vocal catalysts of The Mamas And The Papas.John Phillips wrote the songs as well as his then-wife Michelle sometimes co-wrote.It didn't hurt at all that Michelle was the eye candy of the group that all the men loved.
Denny Doherty sure wrote and recorded some deep material as a solo artist. He and I are fellow Nova Scotians, but he wasn't a Cape Bretoner like myself.Just kidding,Denny!God rest your soul and catch you on the flip flop!
If they ever make a movie of The Mamas and The Papas, I woild nominate Gerard Butler to play Denny. If you change the nose a bit, and put a mop top wig on Gerald Butler and give him a goatee, he could pass for Denny, IMHO. And, I think that Butler, besides having a decent singing voice, but aslo being scotish, could fake a Canadian accent fairly well. Just my 2 cents.
landrykkb: are you from Cape Breton? I am from Holland but I am very fond of your land. I read "The way the crow flies" from Ann Marie McDonald (l' Accadien errant) and wish to visit New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Cape Breton some day. (Ou restez-vous? Je reste partout, je suis un voyageur).
Were Denny and Cass involved? I know he slept with Michelle but I don't about Cass. I know she was in love with him. Did he feel the same? They would of been cute as a couple. He wasn't married when he died so many now there together in Heaven.

If Cass wanted Dennys attention so badly ,she should have made,an effort to loss weight. She had a nice face and pretty wavy hair .She probably would have lived.
Unfortunately Cass was born a very large baby almost 9lb, and suffered with a weight problem all her life. She wasn't a particularly large eater. It was believed to be a glandular problem.
@@lloydhilton1090 .... Yes, Cass had a deeper issue that created the weight issue for her , glandular and other things as well. She weighed 9 lbs at birth ? My two oldest daughters weighed 9 .5 and 9.6 , respectively but they are also tall ( 5'7", 5' 8" ..thier father was 6'3") so that balanced out certain things.
I still like him though, yes he turned Cass down but he later on regretted it and loved her as a friend. I also loved him on Theodore Tugboat, anyone was an asshole it was John Phillips, John treated Cass like shit and didn't ike her at all, but Denny did love Cass not romantically but as a best friend
What was he supposed to do? He couldn't help not being in love with her, and you can't force yourself to love someone. He did the right thing by being honest with her from the start.
Loved him and his singing style.
60's, 70's, 80's, such a wonderful time to be alive, best music of all time❤!!

@percylipimskiJust because you are a superficial prick doesn't mean everybody is.

Great voice, so warm and personable, a for real wonderful person...wished he was still around with us...thanks for these memories...priceless...
Great voice! One of the best voices in music history. He ranks up there with the best. Even in his later years he could still sing.
Denny loved music and Cass. He was a wonderful musician in his own right. I wish we had talents like him today.
The last of the magic voices!!! Denny was with Cass the essence of the Mamas and the Papas. Dancing Bear is one of my favorite of all time...
R.I.P. Denny and Cass
Each night before I go to bed
I whisper a little prayer for you My Baby
Yeah..
Denny Doherty hosted the CSC awards in 2001. Mentioned the passing of John Phillips
during the festivities.Talented canadian a musical legacy.
Love it. This guy was the heart and soul of the mamas with respect to mama cas. Always in a good mood. Miss him.

awesome. glad to hear him sing so beautifully. he is so missed.
Fabulous collage of The Mamas and Papas and a beautiful song by Terry Sylvester!
Gone but never forgotten !
Denny could sing the birds out of the trees. I agree with that comment.
Well, at least Mama Michelle could sing one Byrd out of the trees and into the bush.😆🤣
I am glad to see others whom know denny and cass carried the performances.. This truth is what has kept me up all night researching Denny Doherty, just to find out he died in 2007.
What a great voice he was endowed with...RIP.
A voice unrivaled...so missed! RIP Denny.
Man I loved him!
This song is simply amazing... I'd love to listen it again and again.....

Denny also was a conductor for a kds show on cbc here in Canada out of Halifax Ns
Beautiful tribute. If it weren't for Theodore Tugboat, I never would have known who Denny Doherty and subsequently The Mamas And The Papas were!
Denny was good looking too
Thanks for posting! Denny had such a great voice!
You did a very nice job. Thanks.
Awesome voices!! And a great love !!!
This song was written by Terry Sylvester of the Hollies and was first recorded by the Hollies and later by Terry Sylvester as a solo.
¿ como se llama esta cancion de The Hollies ?
THANKS FOR THE WONDERFUL GOLDEN MEMORIES R I P AMEN
Someone hold me. That made me sad.
My first hero, wannetd to be lime like him, I'm still doing it , he showed me the path, go where you wanna go, do what you wanna do
Very nice tribute, with pictures covering all ages of his career. Nicely done.
Has Doherty ever sang with Garfunkel? Both have superb voices.

Sorry for the late reply, but I am indeed from Cape Breton.A trip to the Maritimes would be well worth it!Cheers!

Jackie Newberry When Cass asked him to marry her, but he rejected her. So I guess he didn't feel the same.
Fermichelvis Thanks. I'm glad someone answered.
Jackie Newberry Sure thing! (: It's a shame though.. They would've been cute together indeed.
FozzieatDetour BillNye Cass ask Denny to marry her, but Denny say no...... He's in love with Mitch.... desperate in love....

Dont care for Denny, He shut down Mama Cass, then cheated with Michele

I agree. He was messed up.
Love Cass, but you can't make someone else love you if they just don't feel the same. As for Michelle that WAS pretty shallow.
