- When WhatGeek reached out to me to take a look at the Dukharo VN96 I was a bit reluctant as I am not real big on layouts larger than TKL. But my eyes have been opened to the glory of this RGB, knobbed, and stacked monster! This thing comes absolutely packed with value from south facing sockets down to the filler used to give this a super solid sound at no added cost of modding. Please, won't you join me today as take a look at this little beast?

This is not an 1800. That was bad and I feel bad. With that out of the way: What do you guys think about this board? Yay or nay? Who is it for? Let me know in the comments!
Very similar to the EP96 with the layout, and I hate it. My preference for layouts is 1800, so for a brief moment this was a consideration until I realized what they did in order to have a giant 2x2u knob. If youre gonna make a larger then 1x1u knob, you should do it "tastefully", like in the mammoth 75.
@@laffeybunn8557 If you're talking about the Epomaker TH96, this is the same board. The TH96 is a rebrand of this one with switches and keycaps included.
@@DaveAlkema TH96 that was its name, not EP96, sorry too many keyboards these days. And yeah I know theyre the same board but knowing which came first is something that I don't care too much about, even if I should, as theres simply too many keyboard releases nowadays for one man to keep up with. Dierya T83 is a good example of a board I wouldn't of heard of if it wasn't for this channel.
Hello. ran into a problem. When you turn on the charge indicator on the keyboard and the bluetooth indicator, not only the indicator itself lights up, but also the LED under the switch at the bottom of the numpad glows faintly. It turns out a kind of phantom glow. The problem occurs when the backlight is completely off.
Thanks for sharing and hopefully others can use this information to make an educated purchasing decision.
@@punkshoo Have you experienced the above problem?
I did not test for that when using the board before passing it on so I don't have the ability to check that for you now. It sounds like it should be a normal thing. Its fairly common in many budget boards to have the charging indicator per key light enabled while charging, even when the lights are set to off. I had this is in my TH80 and IK75 as well. I don't really use boards wireless though so most of the time I unplug the battery and use them wired which also removed any charging lights.
@@punkshoo If I turn on one LED on the board through the software, the other LEDs around it light up a bit. It looks like a current leak or bad pcb construction.
Ah gotcha. That I did not experience and its the first Im hearing of it out of the several community members who have picked this board up. I'd definitely contact your retailer for warranty support.
im torn between this board and the Dierya T83. im in need of a 75%+ wireless board. i already have a 65%, 75%wired, and a tlk wired. which would you suggest? the dierya t83 at $60 or this vn96 at $95?
Honestly that's entirely up to you. I wasn't overly fond of the design language on the VN96 but overall the board was pretty great. The T83 is the clear value unless you need a numpad.
Could you please tell me if the Royal kluge rk84 is better than the epomaker th80?
Or a keyboard that's maximum 110$ but it should be good
Thanks
If I personally had to choose between those two boards I would choose the TH80 all day. It has an exploded layout I enjoy, a rotary encoder I enjoy, and has south-facing sockets which allow the use of any keycap my heart desires. These are personal preferences, though, so be mindful of that. The Keychron V1 and Akko 5075 or PC75B Plus are also great options.
With blank caps, how do you know which one goes where?
Keycap profile sculpt varies row by row in most cases. You can also get uniform ones so it doesn't matter where you put them.
How are jwick factory lubed vs gateron factory lubed?
JWK factory lube is nearly non-existent. Gateron uses an actual oil on the rails for lubrication and has progressively gotten better and better, more consistent, and overall pretty decent as they launch more prelubed switches.
Wow amazing
Thanks for checking out the video and for the love! Glad you enjoyed it!
bought the same thing but Lychee branding
Seizure warning!
For real! With the RGB lightning on, I couldn’t really tell if it was a keyboard or a rave? Ha ha! I've actually never had anything RGB, so I can't really say whether I'm a fan of it or not, but it would be cool to be able to turn it on or off. Depending on the situation and/or task, I guess it could be either useful, or annoying at times.
The feature that I like the most of the Dukharo VN96, is its giant knob. Once again, having a knob on my keyboard would be something new to me, as I’ve never had one that includes one. But I was actually very close to buying a Logitech Craft keyboard. Mainly, because of the versatile input dial. Yes, the knob. It’s definitely a feature that I would like to experiment with. Particularly, because on a daily basis I tweak parameters on different design apps/software, so it would be very useful for me to have it, as it would increase my productivity. I would think.
I find it so cool that you built it for your wife. I hope she liked it. I’m sure she did.
Oh, and congratulations on your month! I didn’t catch the exact date of your birthday, but I understood that it’s in October, so Happy birthday, man!
Thanks for your insights and for the love!
Not my favorite 96 board layout, as i feel with 96 boards its supposed to be for work, so having a knob feels questionable at worse to me.
The knob definitely throws it off in terms of practicality but there are also many new people entering the hobby that swear they need a numpad but also want an encoder. I think this might not be a bad buy for those people. The knob is absolutely massive, though.
@@punkshoo thats true, i was definately one of those people. Although i wonder if the massive knob is something that people actually want as a newcomer.
@@ryelo5448 As a person who was one of those people, why? I feel like knobs should inherently be for play. Just curious on another perspective.
@@laffeybunn8557 no i have a knob, its just a big one, and most 1800s imo come from work in mind so losing or moving parts of the numpad for a large knob feels questionable
@@ryelo5448 oh yeah the design of this board is shit.
Is this a "real" board layout? I've seen Epomaker make a product that's identical - did they just steal Dukharo's design, like many Chinese companies seemingly do? 🤨
I don't follow the initial question. If you're asking if this is a standard available layout then, yes, for the most part. Its a deviation of the 1800 layout.
As for Dukharo and "Chinese" companies stealing things: White labeling is very popular on items like this. One factory produces them and slaps stickers on it for the reseller masked as their own brand.
@@punkshoo Oh yeah, sorry. I just meant if it was a common layout or just a one-off made by some random Chinese manufacturer, but I guess not. Thanks for the info! 😇
Say, the Cream Soda switch, that's your design, isn't it?
this keyboard is my worst purchase on aliexpress. a depressing mushy piece of crap
Might try different switches if its mushy. What switch option did you choose?
@@punkshoo gateron yellows
Gateron Yellow switches shouldnt feel mushy. They just wont feel sharp like a long pole switch if that's what you were expecting.
@@punkshoo I guess that's exactly what I was expecting: a way more pronounced sound
