As an Argentine, I offer JustKunzy my time to re-subtitle this video to make more sense of the conversation.
I live in the US and paid attention to them and, sadly, so many details are lost in translation. The interviewer used *so many* regionalisms that are pretty funny and hard to catch for a non-Spanish speaker and even for a non-Argentinian 😂 - So if there’s popular demand for fixed subtitles, I’d do it just because I want everyone to understand and love Messi even more.
We Argentinians smile every time we see his face. Do you know what that is? We are happy for him. Not only that, many of us even cry, we are in love with the guy. This probably is the most platonic relationship ever: Messi and 90% of the planet.
Messi is the type of Argentinian (and person) we all want to be.

I agree. The subtitles were woefully off. They did not capture what he was saying at all. As a native speaker I am grateful I know enough Argentian slang to get everything. Such an awesome a humble man. Full everything that makes people human.

disrespectful, doesn't matter if your guest is the king of the world or a homeless man, its's extremely rude to do that like he did. Enjoyed the interview a lot and seeing the humbleness and personality of Messi, the interviewer was good in general but that moment was very bad thing to do to someone who is your guest, he shouldn't have done it and I think he realized straight after. Kudos to Leo for being himself but I really didn't like that move from the interviewer.

They have that Argentinian thing going and you can hear it in their tone and the way they constantly joke. The translation doesn’t always pick up on Messi’s dry sarcasm but he definitely tries to be funny as well throughout this lol

The last few minutes was hilarious. Leo was soooo nervous. This interviewer guy, I have no idea who he is but I knew he has to be a comic. Only comedians do and say the most wild things and get away with it.

As someone learning Spanish, I thought I was getting a grasp of listening to it being spoken but he speaks so fast and quiet and trails off sentences.
Because Messi has an accent very typical of his province, where they hardly pronounce the "s" or do not modulate the words as they do in other countries. For someone who is learning Spanish it is difficult to learn by listening to Messi's accent. I say this being from Argentina.
Cause he's speaking Argentine Spanish. It's a little bit like someone learning American basic English and then hearing someone from Scotland or Ireland speak English. The lack of exposure to it makes it difficult to comprehend.

I notice the translation is a bit different. I'm pretty much sure it has to do with how Granados makes a lot of references that would be only understood by an argentinian audience. Still, nice job to bring a translation for english speakers, it's an entertaining interview.

The host is Miguel ‘Migue’ (mee-gæ, fonetically) Granados.
He started appearing on Argentinian TV following his dad, Pablo Granados, a beloved comedian. Pablo and Migue are both born in Rosario (a city in Santa Fe province), just like Messi; but more than that, Migue’s personality has been always like this, very confident and funny. Leo has been in touch with Argentine culture even though he left the country so young. So the Granados family comes very easy and familiar to many argentines. Besides, it’s not the first time they talk, clearly and Migue has been around for quite a few years now.

I don’t think so. The subtitles are 90% off and the interviewer used so many regional references that many things need to be put into context by an Argentinian.
Mexican here, I understood 99% of it. Some Argentinian colloquialisms I didnt, but I can infer the meaning since I understood the rest of the sentences.
As a Costa Rican, I understood 100% of the words exchanged. Even though we don’t speak the same spanish is like American English and British English. You don’t speak British English but you would understand their slang because of the jokes and everything.

These subtitles are terrible, missing the mark on every beat, every quirky nuance. I speak both as a native Argentinian and as a fluent English speaker. We speak fast yet sharp, with comedic timing dipped in slang in e v e r y sentence, all along quite cultured words in the same way london's cockney works. In fact, if you look at medieval sources, our spanish is even more proper than the one spoken in Spain today. If you don't get it, that has nothing to do with Messi being from the country's side.
