  • PCGS Unboxing #5 - The HIGHS and LOWS of Getting Coins Graded...
    It's PCGS unboxing time! In this video, we open and check out the grades I received when I submitted a total of 13 coins including a Morgan Dollar, half dime, and various quarters, nickels, dimes, and pennies. I feel as though I am getting better and understanding the submission and grading process and am working on getting a reasonable expectation for what my coins will grade when I get them back. Places like PCGS, NGC, and others offer this service as a way to get a qualified and professional value on condition and grade. I have some idea where they will end up on the scale of 1-70 but I rely on them to make the final call.
    As with many grade reveals I have seen on RUclips, most of the time you get a few that grade higher than you though, a few that grade at the level you though, and a few that get disappointing grades. At the end of the day you have to take the good with the bad and ugly. This is PCGS's OPINION and you are paying for that and their reputation. I believe them to be the most consistent and fairest of the coin grading companies and it is who I use for all of my submissions.
    Please leave a comment below and tell me what you think of the grades I received and if you agree with them or not!

    The strike is what gave your Lincoln cents the high grade. Understanding individual high points of coins and the details of the strike in the high points may help in understanding grading. Serface preservation, luster, and strike quality are the 2 top qualifiers. Eye appeal is the main descresionary qualifier. understanding how to determine strike quality is in my opinion the most misunderstood in the coin collecting community. A coin may appear nearly flawless but will lack detail in high areas. An example being the hair behind the ear on a morgan dollar. Thanks for posting your video! I plan to start a video channel myself. Understanding nusmismastics well requires much time to gain a full understanding. I have collected since the age of 6 and only recently have I decided to more fully understand coin grading. Enjoy the hobby and keep learning!

    Nice bunch of coins and now protected. A one paragraph explanation per coin would be nice.

    It's nice to see you finally get those coins back. But PCGS really hosed you on some of those grades if you ask me. It seems like they got quite a racket going on having people trying to chase those top grades. Only to be marked down below where they probably should be. Hey they gotta protect their top grades! At least none of them came back with "Questionable color"

      They are really hard to get the top grades which is why I like them.

    Gotta love them submission results, except for the Morgan dollar, which is a bummer despite being an uncirculated one.

    Seems like every submission to PCGS I get a lesson coin. Pretty good overall though. Keep it up.

    Good to see your submission finally get back to you. A couple tough grades in there but overall not bad. And now they are protected 💯❤️‍🔥

    Great un-boxing. I'm still waiting for my last submission. 128 days and still in Imagining. It has been in Imagining for over a month. I'm done with belonging to PCGS as a Platinum member. Send a message to PCGS and just get a run-a-round and a line of crap that they are working hard at getting them out. Why can you go to a show and get them in a day? It seems dealers get them faster. Anyways the un-boxing was GREAT....

      Sorry to hear about how long your coins are being held at PCGS. It’s getting crazy and they just announced they are increasing their prices for 2023.

      Yeah I just a notice with my renewal to PCGS. I'm going to quit been a Plat member and drop down the silver member. I'll be watching your other un-boxing. I have been surprised on a few PCGS grades also on some of mine submissions. I have a complete collection of Morgans except for the 1893 S & O, I also have a alot of extra Morgans in PCGS slabs. Now I just keep going for up-grades. Just about all mine are MS 64 to 67, I only have about 10 that are below MS. never ending hunt for nice ones.

    Experience really helps with grading coins. I can usually get the grade of a coin within a point or 2 and know whether or not it’ll get a details grade or not before sending it in. Then again, I’m used to sending in older coins in rather than modern coins.

    Great submission! I've been submitting to PCGS for a little over a year now, and it's definitely a learning curve.
    Did you submit for FB on the dime and FS on the nickels? Definitely looked like they had them.
    I've done quite a few Morgan's, they can be ridiculously finicky when grading those. I've never seen the wheel marks designation though. Doesn't make sense on a Morgan Dollar, they don't go through machines!
    Great job! Keep submitting, and keep learning! Take a look at some of my submissions when you get a chance, we can all help eachother learn as we go!

      I did not submit them for FB or FS but my understanding was that they check for that with the submissions if they are eligible.

    Grading ultra moderns is a crap shoot. I feel like if you cracked them and sent them in again you could get different grades.

    • @EnigmaCoinCollector
      @EnigmaCoinCollector  Год назад

      Yes I can absolutely see that happening.

      Getting modern coins graded is a waste of money. Unless you have a Time Machine and can go a hundred years into the future to cash in

    How can you tell a 2000 "Cheerios" cent from a regular one?

    • @EnigmaCoinCollector
      @EnigmaCoinCollector  Год назад +2

      If it isn’t in its original packaging there is no way to tell.

    How do you know the grade of the coin when you haven’t turned the coin around yet! ?

  • @thomasthompson6378

    How is it possible to identify a "cheerios cent?" Don't they look pretty much the same as the non-cheerios cents?

    • @EnigmaCoinCollector
      @EnigmaCoinCollector  9 месяцев назад

      Once they are taken out of their packaging, their is no way to distinguish them from regular 2000 cents
