- In a new documentary airing tonight on ITV1, friend-of-the-show Kate Garraway will bravely open up about how her marriage changed as husband, the late Derek Draper, battled the effects of Covid for nearly four years. Kate says while she accepted her role as a round-the-clock carer, one of the biggest challenges she faced was knowing Derek loved her but never seeing signs of it. Ruth knows exactly how that feels as she is the primary carer for her mother, and argues you should never feel guilty for admitting you miss feeling love and appreciation from those you are caring for. Plus Brenda and Linda discuss how it felt for them to rely on the help of their children when they were unwell.

Sick of hearing about it. I lost my mum, step dad, and best friend within 8 months of each other all to Covid. I had zero help with anything.
She said her car was stolen, then tyre went on motorway, then her fridge freezer went then her washing machine went etc etc. She got help with it all.
She got LOTS of help and is still wanting it now, despite books documentaries etc etc. So fed up of seeing and hearing about her.
I refuse to watch anything she is on now.
It was sad that Derek died, but also sad that my beautiful mum stepdad and best friend died.
We as a family have simply had no choice but to get on with it.

Kate is such a strong brave woman. I wish her and especially her kids all the best.
I wonder if some of the cowards here would say it straight to Kates face?
she's horrible. making a drama out of a crisis and using her husband's illness and death as a cash cow.. men know they're just their for women to use as resources, but this is taking it above and beyond.

Watched Dereks story tonight and Kate contradict herself when she said ,she had phone call to sayDerek had died, then said her and the children where by his side when he died holding his hand ,so which is it Kate?

Lovely woman but many thousands of people lost loved ones during covid. Many people who were struggling terribly financially. I feel every time I'm watching TV she's on, which feels slightly odd. I found it unusual too, that she returned to work so soon after his death. Really odd!

Just seen her on the one show saying she struggled to pay the 4 grand a week of care for Derek. What sort of care cost 4 grand a week! How come someone earing over half a million a year couldnt afford care! How can anyone normal struggling for care really relate to this woman?
24 hr 7 day a week care thats what!! Part time care can be £2200 per week .. ask you local authority for a price list!!
Yes they can. You can be earning a good wage and not be able to afford 16 grand a week, on top of everything else in life bills, kids, you know all the compulsory life stuff we have to pay. And Kate was not eligible for government funded care for Derek because she was deemed to be too rich. Even if you own a house they'll just tell you sell the house to pay for the care. It's ruthless

The care costs also are huge - can mount up. So 3 years of care costs £1million. Why did she not get NHS help as he was so ill?

Most people had to survive their times in cramped apartments. Work from home, helping kids with school online, taking care of sick and dying family members.

What disturbed me most was her saying that bringing her husbsnd home and having to care for him herself with probably 10 nurses was like falling of a cliff.
Toooo much work for her. She would have preferred if he stayed away these last 4 years being someonevelses burden.

Maybe people should not be overweight, evidence shows that being obese was a risk factor for covid, and should take better care then these adverse effects would be less likely take responsibility for your health folks please for your health
