  • www.which.co.uk... The Honda Civic isn't quite the force it once was; the Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra dominate the medium-car-sector sales in the UK, Kia and Hyundai undercut it substantially on price and the VW Golf still has a stronghold on the higher end of this car class.

    Honda is hoping the new Civic Tourer will invigorate sales, with a dash of style, a shot of driving performance and a whole crate of loading space.
    Based on the existing Civic hatchback, the Tourer has the same width and height and, more importantly, the same wheelbase (the distance between the front wheels and rear wheels) as the five-door version. But it is 235mm longer, with all that additional length coming from behind the rear wheels.
    That means all the extra space is devoted to the boot. And it's a whopper. Claimed capacity is 624 litres up to the window line and including 174 litres of storage space under the boot floor.
    The Tourer's powered by two of the engines you can select in the Civic hatch: a 1.8-litre petrol with 140bhp with the choice of six-speed manual or six-speed auto gearboxes, and a 1.6-litre diesel that's capable of returning sub-100g/km CO2 emissions and 74.3mpg from the 118bhp unit.

    Civic forums have endless jokes about car reviewers blatant bias towards VW and Ford. Isn't it odd then that most Honda owners either owned these or tried them before getting a Honda. I own the new Hatchback (Euro version) and I absolutely love it. Rear visibility is not compromised at all, I've never looked in the rear view mirror and thought "I can't see what's behind me". The thought of a Focus or Golf to replace my Civic is laughable, they appeal to people who go with the flow.

    The Civic Tourer is one of my favorite Hondas out today. Just look at the beautiful lines and that gorgeous back end! The largest cargo room and available with diesel or Petrol. This new Honda is a winner in my book.

    first review ever about this car with this particular engine where I hear that the engine is loud, everywhere else it is known as super quiet and some even say that sometimes is so silent it may be mistaken by a petrol. If we come to realize it is the first 100% alloy diesel engine in the world, it starts to make some sense. Well, in my experience and I have driven some of these new age 1.6 diesels from this and other brands, IMHO I do think it is the more subtle and quiet. Whilst being one of the more punchy. I would really like to see a dyno test, 'cause it doesn't feel like 120 hp only. Especially after testing a VW1.6 or a PSA1.6., or even the later Korean Kia/Hyundai 1.6 115hp. Perhaps the gearbox makes all the difference because it is much nicer than all the others, but it is really to fast in the highway for 120hp.

    I agree with the boy in so much that the estate version of the Civic while still striking appears visually better resolved the hatchback. But that's a little bit like saying Ginger Spice is a little better looking than Scary Spice. Hm. No, that's a little harsh. In a market where car makers such as VW cynically give you a 'new' car and call it the Mk7 Golf (I'll give a tenner to anyone that can really tell the difference from the Mk6) it's good to see car makers that are bold enough to put out something the genuinely looks progressive and 'modern'. I think the looks will grow on you.

    I like the Tourer better then I do the normal one.
    for the interior, as with the hatchback, it's a step back from the previous Civic, the best Civic ever that was.

    I've had both VWs and the Honda. I don't recognise this guy's comments at all regarding quietness and comfort. I love my Tourer and never want to get rid of it.

    Good review and I think this Civic Tourer is going to be a winner. My wife drives the top spec hatch, Pearl White with 18's, I LOVE this car and for our kind of driving works well for us. I have driven the MK7 Golf and liked it heaps but feel it's SO bland. I love the Hatch design but do also understand why some don't like it, the shape does work well as an estate and looks brilliant.
    If this makes it's way down to NZ I will order one......or perhaps the Type R instead!!!

    I've had two Accords. and now have a Civic Hybrid, as I wanted something smaller and hate the Civic hatchback. Or any hatchback come to that.
    I'd also rather go for the reliability of a Honda, than that of a VW.
    I may well look at one of these in a few years time. Over 70mpg and zero road tax, has to be a bonus.

      For a family of 5 which will be better this or the new accord estate ?

    • @tectorama
      @tectorama 9 лет назад +1

      Gecko I'm no expert, but I would probably say the Accord better for a large family.
      The Civic hybrid in no longer available in the UK, and we've never had the Accord hybrid here. Mores the shame :(
      The only Civic tourer I've seen in the showroom is the 1600cc manual gearbox.

    This probably the poorest review of this car I have seen.
    1. it has excellent rear legroom especially if the driver is only 5ft 7,
    2. I does not have lots of low down grunt
    3. no mention of the "magic seats" which lift like cinema seats to give extra height storage space and can have gear stored under when flat
    4. "button cluttered steering wheel" not really by modern standards.
    I have one. I am not overly in love with it. My previous Octavia was a lot better for ergonomics and upgrades, like the ability to take a large water bottle in the door holder and a entertainment unit that was not 5 years behind.
    But saying that I love the reliability and the economy of the 1.6 diesel for my 28k miles a year commute.

    Come to this in 2021 cos I've just got a 2017 diesel. I'm a stickler for criticising cabin noise and this guy has got it so wrong. My diesel is a pleasing low thrum that belies the engine type. Surprised even Which? is biased.

    Zajebiste auto, bez kitu! Jako użytkownik tourera polecam gorąco, a szczególnie fanom Civica, ale nie takiego agresywnego po wiejskim tuningu, tylko jako auto rodzinne. Kosmiczne wnętrze i ogromny bagażnik jak na tę klasę, tylko Skoda ma większy.

      The US is a tough market for hatchbacks. Most people still go for sedans so the manufacturers only bring in what they think will sell.

    Why does Honda focus on their Euro markets than here in America. Honda is becoming pre-2010 Ford when Europe got the cooler cars and the States got the boring cheap cars. C'mon Honda, stop being conservative and let loose for once! Gives us new radical fun cars like the Civic Tourer or the Urban SUV Concept. Don't worry, your sales aren't going to go down because you guys are catching up with the rest of the automotive industry, on the contrary, their gonna sky rocket!!! Just some important advice to Honda from a Honda loyalist.

    In my opinion this is one doesnt work for me, but then I love the hatchback shape. Also regards the shape as soon as I saw it I thought of Citroen from a few decades ago. My Dad had a Citroen Club G Special and neighbours had several Citroens and just shows in terms of aerodynamics Citreon were years ahead of the game. But this Honda Estate, yuk! The Golf looks far more the part, its saying I am an estate but I'm not going overboard in the 'oh look at me arent I funky' stakes. Honda wont sell many of this Estate, looks like something from planet Zog :)

    • @which
      @which  10 лет назад +1

      But the Golf really is a bit bland. I suppose it will sell lots for people that don't want to stand out but it really isn't very interesting. We've just tested the Seat Leon ST and that is much nicer looking and based on the same platform as the Golf.

    Now I get it! The designer designed it in a 'crazy mirrors' hall, hence the stretcheddddddddddddddd appearance. Yes its a van and we know how stunning they are to look at :) Thats it, now I get the butt ugliness. The reviewer here ran down the ride comfort and settings (comfort/normal/dynamic), noise from the suspension (crashy/bangy), noisy in the cabin (noisy at all times), noisy diesel engine, not enough room in the back, yet liked the heavier steering! Really makes you want to go out and buy one dont it???

    • @which
      @which  10 лет назад

      That's right, the heavier steering setup than the Civic hatchback is most certainly a good thing. While it's still light enough for easy town driving, the additional weighting around the centre point makes the car feel more responsive to initial turn-in. It doesn't feel vague in corners when you're travelling at higher speeds like the hatch does.
