I think it's written in the lore that Monoblos and its subspecies are endangered which would explain their absences in many games and if they do appear, they can only be fought in offline quests.
lore wise, monoblos is also traditionally only solo, that's why they're always in the village quests, not in hub quests
thing you are close the monoblos and their one horn is a form of gender dysmorphia because the monoblos is the male half of the species and the diablos is the female half, heck black diablos is actually a diablos in heat and only the strongest monoblos that can subdue them would be able to mate with them.

100% agree, it was always more interesting than Khezu to me and it got shafted in Rise when they brought back a bunch of 3rd gen stuff without Gigginox

i think the devs need to come up with new moves for the monoblos, could be nice in opposition to diablos it uses its wings to do a impaling dive dunno, use his horn more like a sword or a spear and not use the charge as much so it moves away from sharing diablos moves.
i'd have him inflict bleeding and be overall more focused around cuts and thrusts rather than charges and breaking bones
Agreed. You could do a lot with making it a monster equivalent of the Lance, thrusting and stabbing rather than bludgeoning you to death like Diablos does.
Monoblos charges 4 times instead of diablos who only does 3. Monoblos also digs and jumps more often. You can definitely tell the two have different behaviors, it’s like using the same weapon but with different play styles.
I was thinking of a spiral thrust that only monoblos can made, like the counterpart of diablos horn swing, he charge ahead then he jump foward and star spinning like a drill of death... he doesn't land, he bury into the ground like agnaktor and then he jump out like allways, then he make his small roar, the one when he enrages but is only a opening cuz this move is brutal and the hunter need a opening to attack... this move obviously can't be blocked, he is a massive drill, and make a hell tone of damage
The thing with that is Diablos and Monoblos are too fundamentally similar to just give it a couple new moves. It'd have to change its entire moveset and attacks patterns like Glavenous and acidic Glavenous. The problem with that is Glavenous was made with greatsword in mind so making acid use more longsword like techniques was fresh and interesting. Diablos and Monoblos on the other hand share too wide an area in their attacks for Monoblos to look like anything but a copy no matter what moves they add on. If Monoblos worked like a Lance while diablos was more of a hammer type monster it could be easier but Diablos effectively works as both while Monoblos only works as one.
Even bloodbath and now Apex Diablos have a spinning horn move and quick charge spin which would have been perfect for Monoblos, making it even harder to really set the two apart without basically making an entirely new monster outta Monoblos.
I do want Monoblos back tho and would even be cool with it just replacing black Diablos if they brought it to Rise, but I just can't think of anyway it could happen besides a complete redesign.

What the Guild is first foremost about is protecting the balance between people and monsters. That not only means to take care of monsters that pose a threat due to odd behavior, but also of poachers. And a good reason for why the Monoblos could only be hunted so late in the first game (and why it usually can only be hunted in Village quests) is because the Monoblos is an endangered species.
I feel Garuga got a similar treatment but for different reasons. Garuga was I believe the original secret super boss montser (like Rajang and Jho) but he’s been reduced to just another Rathalos tier monsters in later games. He should have been a terrifying invader monster.

Yeah. Hyper aggressive like the others but far more focused on being small and fast. Hits hard still sure, but not like jho or Bazel. And if not Garuga (one of my favorite monsters), maybe seregios (another one of my favorites) should take that role. Every invader we have is just pure power after all

I remember when I first saw a Monoblos in MH Stories 1 and asked my friend, who is a MH nut, what was up with the Monoblos? What was its story compared to the Diablos? He told me something akin to this video and how it’s barely been seen since the beginning games in the series. I told him I was glad that it at least got to appear in Stories so it wasn’t truly forgotten. Now that I’m doing another playthrough of the second game in the Stories line, I decided to pick up the royal monster Monoblos at the beginning of the game to have as my back bone to the team. May the Monoblos live on in spirit and one day return to the main games!
It was present in Monster Hunter Stories 2, but it was also in the original Monster Hunter Stories with them both having a white variant as well. Also in Stories 2 it was one of the first royal monsters introduced, meaning it provided a way to get a high star monster early on. I fought the royal Monoblos as early as possible and found the battle to be quite memorable due to the fun challenge. I kept the Monoblos in my party all the way until after the final boss and it was probably my most used monstie.
So Monoblos may have been wronged in the main series, but it was pretty notable in the Stories series at least.
Yes - I was wondering if this would be mentioned! Monoblos has been very memorable in Stories as an enemy and assist due to his unique skills, as well as the fact that he’s difficult to find and fight in his introduction

As weird as this sounds i can see white monoblos doing really well in tundra regions like harpooning a beotodus in a turf war or the red markings on its frill when he's pissed contrasting with the white snow

White Monoblos are incredibly rare and seeing one out of habitat would be even more unlikely.

As someone who never played mh1 but played 4u, I cannot even imagine that monoblos was the final boss. That being said his armor was pretty good for the attack up and I vaguely remember grinding him in high rank, so at least he was somewhat useful.
He was the final village boss which isnt the true big bad. The final village boss tends to be the flagship or a variation of it with ivory lagiacrus being considered the final village boss for 3u and magnamalo filling that role in rise. The true final bosses of mh1 were fatalis and lao shan lung with lao being in base game
yerfleflerdle Yeah but Shagaru Magala was 4’s village final boss, and was clearly a way more important monster than Dalamadur.
3:50 I know the focus is on monoblos but I always thought the MHFU quest scaling was really odd, like the fact that Kushala Daora is also fought not just once but twice at 4 star village level. Also the fact that rathalos and rathian aren't unlocked until AFTER Black Diablos, Black Gravios, Lunastra, Teostra, Chameleos, etc. Or the fact that in the guild hall, Ashen Lao Shan Lung is fought at the same quest rank as "Hunt a Giadrome" in highrank. Why is the largest monster in the game with the most health fought at the same quest rank as a single, individual, Giadrome?? Also not only does Monoblos get nerfed in low rank, but in high rank, you are supposed to fight not just 1 Monoblos, but TWO Monoblos, one of them being white, at the same quest rank as "slay 20 velociprey".
Anyway, given that MHRISE brought back the seperation of village quest and hub quest, I'm really hoping this means the return of Monoblos in future games (Monoblos for MH6???? please????) White Monoblos in 4U was one of my favorite fights and as someone who played the original game as well as freedom, he's always been one of my favorite monsters. Hope to see him sometime soon, hopefully.
Thats true, I think the second generation in general kind of struggled with quest balancing/scaling. A brand new Monoblos rework in Sunbreak/6 to separate it from Diablos would be *chefs kiss*
Just to say, while Monoblos is absent from the recent games indeed, MHW still has a music for the Seliana suite named "Monoblox theme", not much but shows they didn't forget it!
Monoblos definitely got a big downgrade in power; but at least it still shows up.
Personally; Gigginox feels more forgotten, poor thing is still stuck in 3rd gen; outside of mobile outings.

decent Plesioth fights (seriously, that thing was a staple in older games but after finally being able to fight it underwater in 3 Ultimate Capcom just went back to the old fights for Generations)

decent fights against Lagiacrus and Royal Ludroth (I felt like those fights peaked underwater, land only battles against them are kind of lame)

I felt like the Devs didn't plan for MH overwhelming success as a series. Looking back at the first MH, basically they just use the same skeleton and slap on different skin to it.
Monsters like Monoblos and Plesioth became kinda redundant as the monster roster grew larger.
They can't bring a GOD to the next game. There's not enough memory to code for the game-breaking hip thrust.

They had the artworks and designs of other type of monsters with different skeletons, but probably didn't have enough budget for it in the first game. Dos proves this.
A real shame, honestly. Monoblos was definitely an early favorite of mine. I've hunted it so many times, yet I never EVER got that Monoblos Heart for the SnS upgrade.
Just would like to clarify that Gravios and Khezu were actually secret post-Monoblos hunts that you could only unlock after making certain armour pieces.

I love how both Monoblos and Diablos are based off ceratopsians and they were named that way due to mono meaning 1 and di meaning 2.
Can i just say i miss duramboros so much we havent seen my boy since gen let alone the game he released in he was such a fun fight he was the monster that was my first wall when i started in 3 ultimate and he was the first monster that made me switch my main weapon and try something new
I remember playing mhfu and to be honest I actually like Monoblos a little more. I agree with you, his design is a little more likable. Here's hoping he appears in sunbreak or in 6th gen. When it comes to moveset I think it would be kinda nice to see him doing ranged horn air attack. As he swings them fast enough to create this powerful air blast to knock you down and instantly charge right at you. Seriously they could make Diablos and Monoblos appear distinct from each other but still related. Just look at Glaveneus and its acidic subspecies
I think the ultimate way they could bring Monoblos back would be to make it the agile foil to Diablos's huge bulky battering ram, exactly like how Acidic Glavenus is about technique and normal Glavenus is about hitting things really hard with its tail. We've seen in a few games that Diablos CAN FLY, its not landlocked, but its likely the massive bulk of the creature weighs it down too much to use this effectively. What if Monoblos, a skinnier and less bulky wyvern of nearly identical body proportions, actually USED its wings to set up for attacks? Jumping high into the air to come crashing down, or even better, using them as propulsion in order to charge EVEN FASTER than Bloodbath Diablos in a straight line, using its lance-like horn to brutally impale anything in its way, almost like how Valstrax uses its jets to shoot himself forward. Plus, since its not as bulky and overweighed as Diablos, it can turn faster, meaning it can chain charges back to back or maybe even redirect itself mid-charge with its wings.
I think the most likely reason its been nearly forgotten by the series (Being a smaller and meeker Diablos) could be completely flipped on its head to become its greatest asset: a charging wyvern defined by the blistering speeds it can reach when attempting to impale hunts on its spike. Think of it like a Rhino vs a Mountain Goat. Rhinos are huge tanks that can go pretty fast (About 34 MPH) but have horrible turning potential and have problems maintaining their stamina. Goats, in the meantime, while not nearly as beefy, can sprint up to 50 MPH and are incredibly agile, able to stop quickly, whip around, and charge again, along with climbing up mountains and slopes that a Rhino would never be able to ascend.
Both are harmful to humans, but IN TRUTH, the goat is legitimately the HARDER animal to not get hit by, since jumping out of the way of a Rhino attack at the last second leaves the Rhino unable to turn to hit you and they'll barrel past you, being forced to slow down and lose their momentum, which gives you potential time to escape. A goat, on the other hand, can immediately redirect itself even while sprinting to still hit you square in the chest with its horns, knocking you off your feet. It won't instantly kill you like a Rhino would, but its faster and harder to dodge, exactly like what a Monoblos should be to a Diablos.
I prefer Monoblos and his subspecies over Diablos and his wife. Although I do wonder how it digs, since its horn is at such an angle that it would get in the way.
Anyway, I want Monoblos to return, along with a lot of other monsters the series has abandoned
Hopefully we'll see monoblos return in a mainline game soon. It's definitely been more than a little while since he's made a reappearance. Granted there is a lore reason from the Guild classifying monoblos as an endangered species but hey they should've re-populated by now hopefully.

I feel the Great Jaggi got a similar hit. It was Tri's flagship "pack" monster, but gen got rid of Great Jaggi. Then in Rise, Great Jaggi's siblings Great Baggi and Great Wroggi came back, but not Great Jaggi
Baggi came back because the community asked so hard for it, we did the same for baggi but i guess we cant have it all

Seeing a Monoblos use its singular horn for more stabby/Smashy attacks, while the Diablos counterpart would use more charges and sweeps to account for the more horns would be nice
If you think about it, it kind of makes sense why it wasn't in World. Monoblos is solo only. It always was and most likely always will be. World didn't have solo. You could play solo, but essentially every quest was a hub quest, quests that never had Monoblos. Though they could have just restricted it to one player. I'm holding out hope for it to be in Sunbreak's high rank village.
Eh, I've always treated Monoblos as a prototype for Diablos, you simply cannot beat its intimidating design and name, it was a necessary upgrade.

Both mono and diablo were introduced in the first game. It take a lot for me to dislike a monster but I personally like diablos's design because his head seems more unique to me but that might be because I can only see styracosaurus in mono. But it was the first generation so it was far from perfect including make 2 separate monsters with such similar appearances and movesets. Maybe a new moves to make mono more unique because it's not uncommon for separate species to evolve similarly it's called convergent evolution iirc. But maybe they could make mono more nimble and quick but fights diablos for a similar food source

White Monoblos is in my top 5 favorite monsters, it's such a shame that it got overlooked and forgotten by it's cousin. I would love to see it make a return and better yet, if it was significantly harder than Diablos to stand out even more
Fun fact: Monoblos is actually stronger than Diablos in the original MH.
-Monoblos can be carved 4 times while Diablos can only be carved 3 times.
-Monoblos armor has 15 Defense, while Diablos only has 13.
-Monoblos' head will bounce off your weapon with green sharpness, while Diablos won't.
And also back then you could only hit the lower part of the Blos family tail without your weapon bouncing off. Whereas now you can hit them both lower and upper part and they'll deal the same damage.
It's somewhat understandable for why Monoblos didn't come back mainly because lore wise they're actually an endangered species which is why it's probably in not so many games. But we could've at least had some deviant/Apex versjon and possibly a different moveset to Diablos like come on Capcom!
Not only Monoblos, but I feel that Gigginox also got the short end of the stick over Khezu who for some reason keeps coming back to games. I want to see poison leech again. I hope he gets in Sunbreak with maybe a unique Apex form unlike other apexs who are just knock offs of the deviants

Yeah the power creep in monster hunter is bad. Poor barioth is consider to be on the same difficulty scale as basarios. You telling me that a giant saber-tooth dragon that can shoot ice tornadoes is as dangerous as a infant rock that can barely shoot lasers.
Especially since he was supposed to be the strongest of the bunch in his intro gen. Dw tho. Star ranks in hunter notes aren't indicative of lore power

I also feel it’s time for MH games to show other npc hunters on hunts to help scale the player characters strengths. Cause our hunters by themselves are doing things that other hunters in groups can’t do.
@@darkvirus5562 the npc hunters thing I feel can only work in sieges. Also canonically most hub hunts including world fatalis were done in a group even if you soloed it. Plus our player hunter is just super skilled
@@yerfleflerdle4309 I was trying to say from a world building point of view to show us what top hunters look like.For so long, MH games have told you that u r skilled. But we haven’t really had someone to compare ourselves with. The best we have is in MH4u with the Ace Hunters and the huntsmen. Like would it have been cool to see a cutscene of hunters, who were established as aces, failing to kill narwa. Would it have been cool to see Utsushi or Fugen struggling but eventually repelling the magnamalo that attack on the first rampage.
Also for our hunters feats, I was talking more about offline quest. Especially in the older games. I mean in mh3u and MHGU, the hunter was capable of hunting an alatreon by themselves. Our hunters are legends and we the people don’t even know the top level hunters in the world of MH.
Lastly, even in online quest our hunters are unnatural. Most elder dragon hunts in failure. It’s actually quite rare for someone to kill a elder dragon at most they repel them. Ours hunters have never hunted a elder or seen one and they are able to kill them in one try. So it’s an actual achievement to see the ace cadet wear kush armor. We been desensitize that monsters like rathalos is considered fodder. But it is an actual achievement to kill one and makes you a top hunter if you do kill it.

You get tired of seeing Diablos in every game that when you first encounter a Monoblos it looks far more interesting. I fought him for the first time in 4U and I also fought him and it’s subspecies in MH2 Dos, and I think he is a lot better than Diablos. White Monoblos is also one of the best looking subspecies and when it gets enrage, the red stripes make him even cooler.
I wish Diablos took a seat already and Monoblos was featured in MH6. Here’s hoping that he appears in Sunbreak too
Personally I agree with you. I’ve always never liked diablos, sure he’s cool but a lot annoying to fight always. After a while I get tired of seeing him and me struggling against him, made me think that monoblos was stupid. But after fighting him in 4U he’s was actually fun to fight, he might have the same thing as diablos but he’s more faster, lighter, and other moves that makes him fun.
After all the games I’ve played, one hunt made me choose mono over diab

In the first stories game monoblos was one of the best monster due to having power, speed, and technical skills.

Perhaps they can make Monoblos more intelligent (kicking up sand to blind and damage you, drops rocks from above, and even creates its own pitfall trap in the midst of battle) and passive to contrast with Diablos. Perhaps they could go crazy with the subspecies such as making one a quadrupled or having one with no legs at all.
Thank goodness Monoblos showed up in Stories 2. That one shot attack on the White Monoblos in particular left such an awesome impression!
I really like the gimmick in 4u that you could only fight monoblos solo.
White Monoblos was such a surprise in mh4u and is now probably my favorite monster/fight. It's such a personal fight.
I remember fighting White Monoblos because I needed it's head armor for a mixed set, did not know it basically did not get much love after or before that

It was a sight to behold, especially when baiting rathalos into pitfall trap for the first time and the intense heartbeat on the first egg delivery quest.
Btw I'm just searching this recently, but 1st gen rathalos has whooping 60% attack increase in rage mode, meaning if you stuck on rage roar animation near him and then he does the backward fireball, it's guaranteed oneshot. He later nerfed in 2nd gen onwards to be having 26% attack increase only on rage mode

I feel like, even though you fight Monoblos earlier, Diablos was probably designed first and then Monoblos was derived from that design. Would explain why Diablos is favored more (also his horns are better-suited for digging)
Regarding the 4 star quest for Monoblos in freedom unite, it really is a sad thing, Monoblos in freedom unite seems more intelligent and faster than Diablos and for some weird reason you fight him before Diablos.
Same thing happened in MHP3rd with Nargacuga, for some reason a monster that was introduced in high rank and it was a urgent quest in G rank was brought down to low rank... Sometimes the quest selection is really weird.
I really want Monoblos to come back, maybe with a faster moveset, that would be cool. Diablos with the strong/heavy charges and monoblos with fast and agressive trust. Considering how well MH can redesign a monster (lunastra and the silver and gold raths for example) they would certainly do a amazing job with Monoblos... If they ever want to...
I feel like MH4U actually managed to fix Monoblos/W.Monoblos. After playing for hundreds of hours, doing G Rank, lvl 140 Guild Quests, Event Quests, whatever else there was I still considered Monoblos to be a lot harder than Diablos/B.Diablos and probably on the same tier as Yian Garuga (which to me is one of the most annoying and dangerous Monsters in the endgame). His movement pattern felt a lot more aggressive and harder to dodge than that of Diablos/B.Diablos. He was also usually bigger than Diablos/B.Diablos, which also made dodging his attacks harder.
I always just assumed it evolved into the Dah'ren Mohran.

Finally. Some Monoblos appreciation. Very weird that Diablos, the Extra of MH1 gets to be on every series, but Monoblos the OG digging wyvern didn't.
Because his name is hard to pronounce and he looks like a Goofy Triceratops.

Although I never had a fight with this thing (yet) it's remains sure did gave me an impact.
I hope we get a Monster Hunter game that gives the spotlight back to some forgotten monsters just like how Rise brought back Wroggi and Baggi which were passed over in every game since they were introduced. Monoblos, Gigganox, Gobul, Qurupeco. They already announced the giant enemy crab for Sunbreak and I'm hoping they bring back the giant enemy spiders from 4 as well. I thought it was weird that they made a Japanese themed MH game without any crabs or bugs.
Didn’t making a piece of monoblos armor in the first game unlock the diablos hunt though? Making monoblos the final story boss but not the final fight offline?

I fucking hated that thing in Freedom Unite since you had to hunt multiple diablos/monoblos in some quests in Freedom Unite KEY Quests and Monoblos was doing more of that digging than diablos it felt like.

I feel like a way to make monoblos different from diablos, is to have him charge lesser, I doubt that singular horn could withstand impacts from charging into walls. Make him do more spinny attacks

Monoblos wasnt Five Star anymore but In Bonus Quest Instead with others like Kezhu Diablos ETC.(Need to Got some Armor Part condition to Unlock those Bonus Quests except Monoblos) In Fact if you Clear all five stars (You Got Red Clear)
Bonus Quests was for NG+ even to Unlock Ralo shenlon by Clear All Weapons Challenge Missions in your save Data
Plus You need to Unlock All Weapons Challenges yourself to be consider Unlock Ralo shenlon Bonus Quest

Monoblos should comeback in sunbreak. He should focus on charging, seeing has diablos was made to have more close combat moves in rise.
Well, the crabs have the skulls of big monsters as caparaces, Hermitaur uses a Monoblos skull and it would be weird to have the skull and not the monster... and that´s why Gen was bad!
His AI did in fact focus more on charging.

monoblos... i rember fighting that guy in the japanese version of monster hunter online few years back. couldnt understand a word but nice to know the name of it xD
Monoblos seems to be an attempt of Capcom to make a low rank variant of a monster instead of only altering its status numbers. But it soon becomes obvious that players will only hunt low rank monsters for a few times and 90%+ of the play time will be spent on end game monsters, so it's pointless to make low rank exclusive monsters (including high rank monsters in G rank expansions). Monoblos is a cool monster though, its armor set was the first armor set I ever made.
Monster Hunter had so much for it, Rathalos was on the box, the Monoblos was the last village quest, THEN you had if you could access it, the Town mode (online ON the PS2?!), where at the top was Fatalis, if I recall he was a secret quest? Look, it was a very LONG time ago.
Fatalis Armour looked like a black version of Rathalos and you made it when you had that armour and Eternal Annihilator, and that sword wasn't easy to get, you needed Lao Plate, 5 Rathalos and Rathaian Plates and the only way to get was from the Tail carve and THAT was rare.

Both monoblos and its white subspecies appeared in event quests in mhgu so they did appear in that game
They didn't. Aside from the metal raths GU didn't even have subspecies.
Another funny thing they did in 4U was to make the monoblos a village quest only monster, and the diablos a gathering hall one.
You could never hunt a monoblos with friends and the diablos would always have his damage and HP way up if you tried tangoing with him alone. It was kinda great how they'd set them apart like this
..Now obviously with only one of the two remaining, that's completly dropped and diablos is just available everywhere, boo

MH Freedom Unite was my first-ever Monster Hunter back in 2017, knowing nothing about the franchise beforehand. Playing it on my Vita, I wondered whether the game had almost *too many* monsters: I didn’t know the history of Monoblos whilst fighting that one, but it looks like Capcom ultimately thought he was bloat, too. 😔
im watching this on my quest 2, and some elements seem to pop out, such as your character and the art you bring up. Why is that? Did you mean for that to happen?
Also interesting the monoblos got removed , but that crab still keeps the skull. The skull of a monster you'll never be able to fight yourself lol...
Completely unintentional but awesome to hear it turned out kind of 3D. And yeah its weird to have the crabs without the monsters their shell is based on, just a weird oversight I suppose.
There's alot of monsters everyone wants to come back. I started with Tri and honestly would love Qurapeko back as it's mechanic was a unique one and used the invading map monsters to it's advantage. Same as Mefestio, it's confusion mechanic was unique and I loved fighting it because of it. While I don't expect them to ever return in the same vein as Narjaralla or Nercyilla at this point, but id would be nice to have another monster use these mechanics to throw newer hunters who think they know everything about the game under the bus and give them a challange.
I honestly thought Monoblos would be a great monster to port over to more recent games as a sort of “solo-exclusive” monster. I really liked that aspect of the monster, as it ensured that you actually learned the fight by the time you got the gear, instead of just blitzing them down with 3 buddies like a lot of the those of the same difficulty. Maybe Master Rank White Monoblos gear could let you show off the fact that you’re a competent hunter, in a group or solo.
I prefer monoblos by visual design. Diablos's tail looks unsettling to me, am i the only one?
Nah I completely agree, Monoblos in general is more appealing to me and Diablos has the weird fleshy club tumours on its tail

Plenty of memories of getting Monoblos to ram his horn into a ledge so I could bop him with a greatsword over and over

Monoblos is my favourite Gen 1 monster simply because of the High Rank version of its armour basically being ITS FACE ON YOUR CHEST.

I was dead set on getting that Royal Monster Monoblos in the early game areas, imagine how i felt when i saw the White Monoblos later on.
"Mono" (the white one) pretty much became my pikachu, have used him much more often than the physical meta pick nergigante and maybe i just built him better than my nerg but he feels more reliable.
No pet poogie is the biggest betrayal on Monster Hunter Rise.
I have a sneaking suspicion Monoblos may reappear in Sunbreak. Daimyo’s in it, and newcomers are gonna be wondering just what exactly that skull is comprising his shell. Just about every old-world monster they referred to in MHW/I they’ve implemented into base Rise, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they give some context for that.
Here’s hoping! Shogun also had Gravios Skull on in the most recent trailer so I think there’s a solid chance of both of them coming back

My white monoblos monstie in stories 2 is my favorite boi. Hes my powerhouse and has been with me since i got his egg from the royal. I wouldnt trade him for anything, even made art of him a week ago.
