Thank you for Manhattan (Rodgers and Hart) by Ruth Tester and Allan Gould from Makers of Melody. Loved how all the lyrics were captured in this piece, along with real life views of Manhattan. Also, another person with this same piece (although he uploaded the entire film short) claimed that this was filmed at the New York Vitagraph studio in Brooklyn instead of Paramount's Astoria Queens studio (which was what I thought). Usually with Paramount, any of their New York-based productions was filmed at the Astoria studios. Finally, I didn't know that Sterling Holloway (of Winnie the Pooh fame) introduced this classic in the Garrick Gaieties of 1925. I'm greatly surprised.
There are two things that stand out to me: One, the fact that the couple waxes nostalgic for "the good old days" (i.e., the 1890s) at the beginning, then change into more modern attire for the 2nd verse. Two, the lyric (written in 1925) already dates itself with the "Abie's Irish Rose" reference, since that show had already closed in 1927, and this video was made in '29. Still, I love the casual approach of this duo. There's nothing stiff or stuffy about them!
What perfection, especially when you consider that this- what was common of talent then- is these days, unknown to the tuneless efforts hits of today, - especially in the rapper world -, of - non music. I fear the use of the Melodic Scale is in danger of being ignored by all and sundry who, these days, try to convince us that what we saw as perfection was merely ignorance on our part. I live in hope though , that this current wave of what is , of an almost Woke mentality, a passing thing , and will in the end be exposed for what it really is : sheer laziness trying to convince , the aged , that generations of what was for us-I'm 85- a joy to listen to AND sing along to was all misguided and pointless - I ask you !
This is one the best arrangements of this classic by Rodgers and Hart

Original SOF or disk?
This is grat
Great work. they get it all. balmy breezes in the subway, plus Abie's Irish Rose. not exactly what R and Hart would care for :)
