  • A selection of slides from the late Bill Palmer's collection with postcards and others I've found illustrating our town's changes over the last century and a half. It takes the form of a tour of the town starting on Windmill Hill. It's in two parts. This is Part 1, running time 19:56.
Part 2 follows and runs for 21:15

Well the order doesn't matter really. I tried to make some sort of sequence out of the mass of images.

Thank you for this awesome video.
Brought me back to my childhood in Hitchin, I now live far away on the other side of the world and haven't lived in Hitchin for decades. I now feel like going back, it will always be my home.

Haha, my aunt used to live in the flat over FH&W, I spent many a happy weekend as a youngster (up from Bristol) in the late 50's early 60's used to play cowboys on the flat roof of the shop below, great times.

Hitchin has some cool history and looking buildings but I can’t help feel slightly sad it’s not get upgraded for the better looks wise. Maybe more functionality but we had two cinemas/theatres and a KFC I think that’s regression.
