Your videos are so helpful, thank you so much for all the wisdom you're sharing! Your channel is probably my favourite all over RUclips and gives me a lot of motivation to get back to swimming again after having to take it very slow for awhile due to long covid. Best wishes from Austria!
Hey Jane, welcome to the Covid slow lane. I’m still on a go slow 2 years after first getting Covid. Slowly we get back to the fun stuff. I hope you can be by the water even if not yet in it. Thanks for joining me. I appreciate you (virtual) company xx
Stumbled across one of your videos while looking at ones for sharrah pool and ended up binge watching about 8 of your videos. I live in Plymouth and just recently started getting outdoor swimming. Great videos, keep up the good work🤜🤛
Hi Adam welcome to my channel. I hope you make it to Sharrah Pool - it’s super fun. Take some goggles as the water’s so clear and full of bubbles it makes fascinating watching if it’s not too cold! There are one or two filmed in your area. See if you recognise the location of this one How to warm your feet up after swimming: ruclips.net/video/xpmRPOdfCvY/видео.html
60 yrs old, aint swam (is that a word) for "donkeys" singed up for a tri in May, cant run for a bus, and never got the hang of riding a bike, ummm what could possibly go wrong !!... Crackin vid Rachel, love it and in all honesty a major, major help. Thank you very much for sharing.
Hi Rachel... former PE teacher here living in the remote wilderness of northwestern BC 🇨🇦. I have have many orthopaedics surgeries on my left knee and foot... I’m only 56, but sadly I am finding that fitness and exercise have become difficult due to joint issues. No worries...this summer I have started into outdoor swimming at a local lake and am loving it. I’m a decent swimmer, but have a lot to learn about cold water/outdoor swimming and this video is a great place to start. Going to check out your other videos... thank-you so much!
Hi Mary, great to hear from you. I'm really pleased to hear you've 'found' outdoor swimming! It brings me a great deal of pleaseure swimming and being out in nature, but also the actual exercise aspect too. Thanks for watching. Swim safe 🏊😀
@@EverydayAthleteRach Thank to you, too and also for the tip about the swimsuit. I learnt a bunch of things from your videos and of course I started to follow you. Best wishes!
Thanks for making these. I am an avid swimmer (in pools usually) but due to the current restrictions I have been unable to do any exercise. Aching to swim I am now mentally (and physically) preparing to get completely demolished in the winter north sea and these videos are giving me all the tips I need to know to accomplish that.
Hey! Thanks for watching. There are lots of groups dotted along the North Sea coast if you are after some company or new friends to egg you on! At this time of year it’s all about just getting in and experiencing the water. Don’t stay in too long 🏊♀️😀
@@EverydayAthleteRach Thanks for the response. I'll keep an eye out for any groups of people to join. I just ordered some items to help me start off comfortably so soon i'll be able to go for my first dip. I doubt i'll stay in for too long on my first attempt haha. Have a good one :D
Thanks Rachel, I am delighted to hear that can give outdoor swimming a try with just booties and gloves (wich I have because I do kayaking). I always thought I needed a wetsuit and was reluctant to buy one just to try it out. Personally, I think I also need earplugs.
If your face is going in the water earplugs make a huge difference. I prefer Zoggs Aqua Plugz or their ear putty, both are really comfy. Get on in and give it a go. Your gloves and booties may not be as great as your homing for swimming if the don’t have a gaiter at the wrist and ankle to stop water ingress, but give it a go and you’ll see!
Ive just started, bout 6/7 weeks ago, I Absolutely Love it, cannae wait to get into the water, safely, I tend to swim across the way, as not as confident in the water, as I use to be, but building my confidence every week, try to get in at least twice a week, more If I can get a buddy partner with me x
Great video. I have been wanting to try outdoor/wild swimming for some time now and hopefully will be getting the chance to do it this week (now I have found someone I can go with).
Hi Deborah, I mainly wear Speedo and for anything other than just floating about I look for a cozzie with a cross over back, otherwise I find the straps slip off my shoulders.
Hello Rachel I’m doing the harvest moon swim tonight and was wondering would you say to wear my wetsuit gloves? As this is the first late swim I have done. Many thanks
The water is generally still warm until the end of Sept, so I think you’ll be fine without. That said you could go in with them on and take them off off too warm! Enjoy!
Do you wear earplugs Rachel? I was getting really dizzy in cold water, and found they helped. But I still sometimes feel a bit seasick when the waves roll me around!
Everyday Athlete I forget to put ear plugs in for pool swims... must start! Any tips for ‘sea sickness’? I think it’s worse when the water is clear as I then see sand particles etc moving around. Think visual information is at odds with what body is doing, what ears are telling me. If I shut my eyes I might have a collision!
Hi June, seasickness is a terrible feeling. I suffer motion sickness in cars and on boats, but so far not in open water, but it is a worry. This article may help: www.220triathlon.com/training/injuries/how-to-prevent-motion-sickness-and-nausea-when-swimming/12797.html
I love your videos! I’m a new open water swimmer and I find it very difficult to remove my gloves after swimming. I end up peeling them off but am not sure if this may damage them. Any thoughts?
I have just received an Aspire Zone3 wetsuit for cold water swimming and found that zone3 also do a breast stroke wetsuit. My main stroke is breaststroke but do I really need a breast stroke wetsuit or will the Aspire work just as well. The breast stroke wetsuit has some nylon panels instead of neoprene and may not be as warm. Anyone else do breast stroke in a normal wetsuit?
The problem people tend to find in a normal swim wetsuit is that their legs have too much buoyancy which can ghive back ache. But you've got it now, it may not affect you that way. Enjoy the warmth and time in the water 🏊😃

Hi Rachel. Do you have advice on choosing a swim suit? You have a great selection and I wonder what you look for in a swimsuit. Thanks!

The Swedish goggles are great for females, but if you are male and havent a really close shave they are terrible for keeping water out
Which Swedish goggles are they?
