And again, Waygoods Otis was the company that built the lifts to RMS Titanic, so amazing to see them working and in service today also!!! Automatic doors in the 1930's was ultra fancy stuff and most defintely State-of-the-art technology, however automatic leveling was standard at that time, even long before. I just found a TITAN from 1908 that have always had automatic leveling and pushbuttons
This is an original installation which was retro-fitted into the building. This is purely for ADA compliancy, so they don't need to modernise the Waygood-Otis lifts.
I would love to see a lift preservation society started up to protect old lifts. Long live the lift industry. I'm a elevator enthusiast and I film lifts and when I upload them you will be able to see the videos and comment on them. Beno I give 10 out 10. You are the best of the best elite. hope you film loads more lifts the same as me. I have many interests. I had a chance to film the lift in Broadmead baptist and was given a tour of the motor room. the lift supply and motor is 415 volts ac 3ph
I love you beno. great video. the caged car lift is one of the best lifts. Very rare you see gated lifts now. there are still a few knocking around. one of the hotels in weston super mare is gated and was installed by a company called Marshall Hunt Lifts. in proper job in clevedon they have a lift with a concertina door and a trellis gate inside. installed by Bennie in 1957. before proper job, it was woolworths. all lifts are the best of the best elite. if I had my way they would all be otis
all lifts are good and are my top favourite machines the best machine man ever invented. They would all be otis if I had my way because otis are the best of the best elite. long live otis lifts
@benobve When you say 'Waygood' in the title of this video, is that your opinion of the lifts as in 'They're way good!' or is 'Waygood' the company who designed the lift? :P
Waygood was a company (R. Waygood and Co) who built lifts from 1830 until sometime around the early 1900s when they merged with the UK division of Otis to form Waygood-Otis.
even all makes are my favourite otis are my first favourite and if i had my own lift it would be otis. as i say again and again, they would all be otis if i had my way.
Or maybe the article you've read is wrong. Automatic single-speed elevators were common here by 1915. Titan and others have built them since the early 1900's if not even the 1890's
Heritage Elevators Hmm. But I got the information from an Otis history book from 1940. Here is a direct quote: In 1915 the effective speed of elevators was still further increased through the invention and development by the Otis Elevator Company of Micro-Drive - an ingenious arrangement for automatically bringing the car platform level with the landing and maintaining this level regardless of stretch of cables or change in load. Self-leveling contributed materially to safety by reducing the stumbling hazard, and sped up elevator service by facilitating a prompt and accurate landing.
The quality of Waygood-Otis’s is in the name!

They must have maintained these very well because they do look nice and clean

What do the U and D buttons do?
Is it for not-so-self-levelling?
I think U is for Up and D is for Down

The last lift got modernized by Generic company.
Bottom drive or overhead traction?
@benobve Great vid mate :)
OTIS lift at it's best! 4:42
what in brighton.
GMA News Reporter JOHN CONSULTA reports that the last lift Beno went in has been modernized by stupid generic.
Heritage Elevators
Otis invented the self leveling elevator in 1915.
So the 1908 Titan elevator i found was just a dream... it doesn't exist... it was just my fantasy... is that what you're saying?
Heritage Elevators
Past modernization or getting the date wrong are possibilities.

Oh. When I say leveling, I mean two speeds.
The last lift you went in was horribly modernized!!!
But no OTIS lifts can be "WAY-GOOD". It simply doesn't make sense. LOL!
They spoilt the last lift by making it too modern. These antique lifts should be preserved and not ,are modern and boring.
