This video is worth millions....it helped me a lot....my exam's gonnna commence in about 2 hours and this video just nailed it... Kudos to professor dave!
10:22 "Now this chair it's going to be THE MORE ENERGETIC..." internally freaking out "... favorable" filled with relief. I love this channel so much, your explanations are amazing.
Jesus christ... I've said it again and I'll say it now, you are by far the best educator for the sciences on this platform. This video in particular... it's absolute perfection. Actually humanly physically impossible to have presented it any more clear. Thank you as always...
Thank you very much for you help, I have my organic Chemistry exam coming up and the past couple of days I have been just watching your videos. They are so helpful and I actually understand, you taught me a whole semester full of organic chemistry through your videos. Much appreciated!
but then how do you know which direction to draw the first equatorial position??? ahhhhhh Dave didnt check comprehension we're all gonna DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so so so so so so much I cannot stress how much this helped me. You are so clear and concise and I loved how you showed the conformations side by side to compare them.
my god you explained ring flip so much better than my professor. i kept making the mistake of when you ring flip the carbons don't stay in the same place
Hi Dave! Loved the way you explained them! Can I classify the conformations with their responding strains as followings? Staggered = no torsional strains Anti = No Strains Gauche = Steric Strains Eclipsed = Torsional Strains
+Milton Chow hmm, I've never really thought of it that way, but i suppose it makes sense. however, let's just say that anti involves the least possible amount of steric hindrance, though not necessarily zero.
Thank you so much for these videos. I just started O Chem and my professor was NOT explaining this in a way that made sense. I thought the chair analogy had to do with the hydrogen bond angles or something, gosh! That's how he made it sound!
After having seen this, I'll be laughing while thinking of 'bow tie syndrome' during my exam, lol. Anyhow, it's amazing how you managed to simplify this so much while keeping all the essence. Great work!
Thank you so much for those videos!!!!! Professor Dave is the best ! your explanation is super crystal clear =)))))) By the way, I like your hair! haha
You are such a great perSon. . you are such a great teacher. . .everything is going to be funtastic about you.... Plz...upload a video. on fractional distillation of liquid air and isolation of noble gases
Thank you very much for teaching how to draw this chair conformations correctly. I tried to understand this with my books and failed. Then I found this amazing video. 😊😊😊
눈누난나 안녕하세요! 한국 사람? It looks like you're learning english..Would you like some help? And I would appreciate any help with my 한국어 ㅋㅋㅋ Please reply to this if you're interested ^^
Im in my second last year in chemistry studying for my finals and i had to come here because i couldnt get what my teachers did and i was feeling the most stupid thing on earth, after finishing the video i discovered i was right the entire time and there is a mistake in my teachers answer, how fantastic it is to study science ? lol
This is how I want my professor to be The statement about not relating cis trans to axial and eque helped a lot thanku professor u just got a new partial student and well as partial fan Haha remember fasan rule I can't be both at same time 😂

Thanxz for making me clear
the last minute comment about cis and trans not being related to axial and equatorial positions explained 5 hours of frustration and confusion
+soap2soap very common misconception! happy to clarify.
I still don't understand it. Can you explain it to me again? Thanks!!
@@ProfessorDaveExplains 12:33 ins't the cis-/trans-concept only applicable on structures with double bonds?
Nope, it applies to rings as well.
It's always the "Oh by the way" statements that save lives 😆
Couldn't be any clearer! This channel is amazing! Thank youuuu!
+Amira Lam. my extreme pleasure! feel free to send questions.
I signed in just to tell you thanks...like really this helps soooo much...and the rest of your videos....thank you great person e.e
+Trudy Matt thanks very much!
Hello
WOW left me speechless this was such an informative and helpful lecture you're the best thank you !!
A tip for knowing which direction to draw equatorial positions: Make sure the line is parallel to the bond 2 bonds over (either direction works)
but then how do you know which direction to draw the first equatorial position??? ahhhhhh Dave didnt check comprehension we're all gonna DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!
This helped me in so many ways. Literally a godsend.
Thank you so so so so so so much I cannot stress how much this helped me. You are so clear and concise and I loved how you showed the conformations side by side to compare them.

Amazing sir.god bless u sir..
Thank you so much!! :)
Note that we usually use the chair 1 conformation, and start labeling carbon 1 at the bottom right.
GREAT VIDEO
This stuff was frustrating me so much, I might've just flipped a chair!!!
But thanks for clearing that up. My chair is fine now.
we love you dave
Bless you!
