    A tip for knowing which direction to draw equatorial positions: Make sure the line is parallel to the bond 2 bonds over (either direction works)

    Hi Dave! Loved the way you explained them!
    Can I classify the conformations with their responding strains as followings?
    Staggered = no torsional strains
    Anti = No Strains
    Gauche = Steric Strains
    Eclipsed = Torsional Strains

      +Milton Chow hmm, I've never really thought of it that way, but i suppose it makes sense. however, let's just say that anti involves the least possible amount of steric hindrance, though not necessarily zero.

    Thank you so much for these videos. I just started O Chem and my professor was NOT explaining this in a way that made sense. I thought the chair analogy had to do with the hydrogen bond angles or something, gosh! That's how he made it sound!

    Im in my second last year in chemistry studying for my finals and i had to come here because i couldnt get what my teachers did and i was feeling the most stupid thing on earth, after finishing the video i discovered i was right the entire time and there is a mistake in my teachers answer, how fantastic it is to study science ? lol

    Note that we usually use the chair 1 conformation, and start labeling carbon 1 at the bottom right.
