They closed off a good chunk of the mall and redid it all 80s everything & also completely closed the food court permanently so they could build the set etc. The real existing Gwinnett place mall Is still open and what's left of the "starcourt" part is blocked off and heavily guarded by security guards...

Sky Blue Well it's pretty self explanatory.... The parallels of Stranger Things are intentional. The sweet innocent image of the 80s. Nothing bad could ever happen, especially at the mall. But of course there is darkness lurking everywhere. There is a sense of pending danger and eeriness in this commercial.
I was blown away by season 3 but especially by Starcourt! It literally takes you back in the 80s and there is a certain nostalgia there. The lighting, the colours, the stores, the clothes people wear, everything! Such attention to detail is what makes this series so great.
imagine what this would look like in the upside down... am I the only one that gets chills seeing normal places when they’re abandoned or destroyed, I just find it so sinister.
We're probably gonna see this place in the upside down. I think the story will be that they tore down the lab and built the mall over top of it, and something reopens the rift to the upside down.

Hunt for Red October, the blue and yellow clock, and the car eleven throws, also maybe "cools down" refers to them going down under the mall but idk that might be a reach, that's really it
It's amazing how authentic they were able to make this mall look. If it weren't clearly a promotion for Stranger Things, one might be forgiven for thinking that this was an actual promotion for a mall opening in the mid 80s. They nailed the colors, the neon lights, the signage, and even the fashions and hairstyles. So many films and shows made today that take place in the 80s always seem to exaggerate or otherwise fail to get that authentic 80s look, but the people who make Stranger Things have an excellent eye for detail and getting things right.
All I needed was Steve. Thank you for this gift.

I'm forever impressed how well the people's aesthetic is. If this had been filmed with an actual old school camera I probably would have believed it was straight from the 80s. I was in Gwinnett Place Mall when I saw all these "coming soon" signs. I got excited because I thought the mall was coming back to life but then the security guard told us it was for a t.v. show then I found out on my own it was for Stranger Things. I was also there when a crap load of extras were getting ready for their scenes. I felt like I teleported back into 1980. The set is still up to this day.

It was in Duluth, Georgia. As of 2021, it was shut down and is set to be demolished, then replaced by a cricket stadium(?). To be honest, as a 19 year old who loves 80's culture, the state of the Gwinnett Place Mall makes me sad, but at the same time I'm grateful that this place existed. One of my lifelong dreams is to be able to explore one of these older malls, and even if I don't get the chance on Earth, I will in the afterlife! 😊

I love the detail that basically all the "new" stores are ones that have since gone out of business or are failing: Waldenbooks, Sam Goody, Wicks n' Sticks, Claires, Radio Shack, The Gap, Zales.
When they said Radio Shack I felt sad for Bob, who was such a wonderful, caring, trusting person and clever puzzle solver, as well as founder of the Hawkins AV Club!
I was so glad they added Starcourt to season 3. When my friends introduced me to this show back in 2020, season 3 quickly became my favorite season and this mall is one of the reasons why. I mean, "The Battle of Starcourt" was phenomenal. But now, season 3 is tied with season 4 for a favorite season. Now we just have to wait for season 5.
But seriously, Starcourt looked like a great place to go to with friends. I would so love to go there and see "Back to the Future".

Josh Mayer It isn't. The Worlds Turned Upside Down book that came out in October came with a replica of the map of Hawkins that Hopper used in S2, and it has the lab and the mall in two different locations. They're on the opposite side of town from each other. Not to mention season three only takes place 6 months after S2 which isn't enough time to tear down a government building and build a brand new mall in its place.

Review: 1 Star. I got to the mall expecting a fun time, it was later at night and the front doors were unlocked so I assumed it was open. I go inside and see kids fighting a giant monster. Now I'm in therapy.

I went to Gwinnett place mall to see the Subway where they found the dead body, but when i got there, i found that the whole food court was blocked off and renovated to look like the 80's. Didnt expect that to be for stranger things...

ur local crackhead I'm not going to ignore that. I googled it and apparently a worker found a decomposing woman's body in a subway in the food court. The girl had been missing before in October last year but returned home. Then, she ran away again, and apparently her parents didn't report it. She was last seen collecting her paycheck on November something.
