@@mari.johnson In Māori culture, grey (or more typically for Māori people, white) hair is seen as a sign of wisdom and mana. My mother, a Ngāti Porou woman who spent some of her childhood living on a marae, eagerly looked forward to the day that she would start sprouting white hairs like all the venerable kuias that she grew up around and looked up to, even finding the notion that she might dye those hairs away to be shockingly offensive. I suppose it goes to show how perceptions of appearance are a matter of cultural and social perspective. Nearly 64 now, my mother's hair is around 70% white and she's never been prouder of it. To her, those white hairs represent all the years of experience she's accumulated rather than the years of youth that she's lost, though she does credit my rascal antics for giving her around half of them! 😂😂😂

Hi Mari. I was first drawn to your channel when looking for tips on moving to NZ (i may be moving to Windy Welly next year from the UK) but then i started watching your other stuff - you have a very engaging style. Re child carriers - when ours were small we used a Karrimor child carrier. Its a UK brand, but i know they sell Karrimor gear in NZ as i saw it for sale in a shop in Christchurch when we were there on holiday in 2019 just before the pandemic. You can't stop them lolling about entirely, but the Karrimor had a good set of straps to keep them in. Our eldest loved it. It meant she could see everything we could see and feel part of everything. Having the back of my head and ears to look at, she duly pulled on my hair and whenever she wanted me to look at something she grabbed hold of both my ears and yanked my head to one side - for her a sort of natural steering mechanism. This could be alarming if you were negotiating a tricky bit of path at the time! This caused much mirth and merriment for adjacent adults, which of course encouraged her to do it more. now in my sixties, i like to attribute my lack of hair to my children and those hikes with the child carrier, though of course i suspect my genes may have more to do with it. Now in their twenties, my daughters are no-longer on my back (that would be weird) but they retain the same wonder and interest in what they see around them and make me immensely proud - well worth a bit of hair loss or even a few grey highlights.

Welcome back. When had my first scans my oldest who is now 9 was named blueberry and my youngest who is 6 was named rice bubble as that was the size that they were. We still use those names. Good to see you guys out and about. I had a front carrier with my boys but maybe tuck a towel either side to stabilise the sides and stop the movement. I've embraced my grey too. The only thing I don't like is the tiny ones that stick straight up on top... What matters is making sure we're all happy and healthy and embracing winter and getting outside.
I love those nicknames and yes, those white ones that stick straight up are the worst! 😂

I like the gray hairs. Let them be themselves! I have had gray hair since I was like 27 or something. I’m a guy but I get your concerns. I think women with gray in their hair in their 30s look genuine and authentic and that’s always attractive!

My mother drank loads of coffee while pregnant and I'm 62 now and had good health all my life. Who tells people coffee is bad, ever? lol LiveYourLife
It gave me acid reflux and heartburn, which is why I stopped. Certainly affects people differently! Cheers to good health

Although I'm not a mother yet, I would love to know your cloth diaper routine because it's something I would be interested in using instead of disposals. And you can do a day in your life as a mom, that would be interesting too!
Your hair looks lovely! If you haven’t been to Amigos or B Effect in Wanaka yet, I definitely recommend. I moved away 6 months ago and still think about them daily 😂

What a beautiful part of NZ you are living i, especially for hikers like you are. And it's definitely a bonus being close to family when you have kids. My kids are now grown but when the kids were young (5 & 3) we moved they moved to be next door to us :-). I think if you don't want to have baby on the videos you could include him but only film him from behind (like you've done in this video) - I've seen other vloggers do this with success. You could upload to youtube and then just add in the other clips with his face for your own private collection. You could also come up with a youtube nickname for him.

Hey I feel ya about Wellington. I've been living here for 10+ years since university and have seen the rent go up a lot. I used to rent when studying with flatmates but have lived alone in an newer apartmentment (still renting) the last few years because of the terrible housing. I have had enough mouldy houses in winter for my life! I am considering just moving overseas instead and working remote. I work IT and they are still flexible with remote work thankfully. Wanaka would be an awesome move for the mountains in winter and mountainbking in summer.
It really feels like it shouldn’t be such a struggle to find decent housing! Moving abroad sounds fun and nice that you have a flexible job to allow it.

Next year i’m traveling by campervan with my kids to Norway for a month, we are very much looking forward to that trip! And in the years ahead i will return to visit NZ again for a few weeks! The Phil and Ted's range are good for carriers, we have the larger one that also has a 30L day pack that can be taken off and handed over to someone else. I think they are a NZ company to, so you might have a better chance getting one.
As far as the leaning goes, I don't think you can help it, strap them in tight and just hope that they can see over your head in a few months time.
P.s don't worry about Grey hair, I've embraced it and I've definitely been happier with the look overall.

Aw man, would’ve loved to had catch up with you both when you guys were here in Christchurch but yes, Wanaka is great! I did visit Roxburgh a few months ago and I really liked it there. As someone who used to make videos, the editing part is a huge task and I started hating it. 😂 So now I’m just creating without editing. Starting small businesses, and looking into stunt work and acting in Auckland. I don’t wanna stay there tho.. Christchurch and Southland is home.

I understand your thoughts about your little boy being included in your videos. However I follow a sailing video where a couple has two little boys . Some of the best spots on their videos are where they show the little boys. They are so cute. But maybe thats just me. I still enjoy your comments and videos. One last thing don’ t worry about your hair in my opinion it looks really nice. Some people just go to far and they only want to make negative comments. Others like me enjoy watching videos and understand how hard it is to make videos and opening your life to us. Thank you so much for sharing .

Good to see you! I respect your decision to shield your little man from the camera right now. Motherhood IS hard but so rewarding. Any content you make is welcome because you are so interesting. You both seem like wonderful parents. Have fun, every stage with little man is almost better than the last stage. I know, my baby is now 38 and has given me identical twin boys, age 6. So much fun.
